Nope, you're not invading my privacy at all. I'm hesitant to post about Mom, because it seems that the only time I talk to you all is to vent and cry about Mom.

She started bleeding from every orifice and they put her in ICU, at our local hospital that she was in. Took more Cat scans and found an abscess in her lower pelvic region, that's pressing on her kidney, small intestine and bowel. Kept her for a few days when all of a sudden she started hemorraghing like crazy and they couldn't stem the blood.

They called Wally and he called me, and we went in. We were at her head and blood was streaming out of her mouth (and elsewhere that I couldn't see). They were putting units of blood into her, so many that they had to warm the blood and the meds they were giving her. I suctioned the blood out of her mouth. There were 3-4 nurses working on her all the time, the supervisor, and someone from pharmacy were the "runners" getting the meds that were needed.

They had a call in to one hospital, and were waiting on a bed.
Short time later the head doctor of ICU said the Orange Team were coming to air-lift her to London. If they couldn't stop the bleeding, she'll bleed to death.

The nurse told us not to go to London, until Mom leaves (in case she didn't make it.) My brother who lives in Toronto went directly to London and actually saw the helicopter come in. THAT would kill me, I don't think I could stand that.

We got to London, they took her in at 7pm and were finished surgery at 11:30. Your aorta goes straight down and splits down each leg. The vein in her left leg had ruptured, and she was bleeding to death. The doctor, top vascular surgeon said she had never seen bleeding like that, ever. They were hoping to put a stent in her leg, but it was hard, because her vein had collapsed. They WERE successful though.

This was all last Wed nite. We got to see her after the surgery, and she was in bad shape. The doctor had fully intended to come out at 11:30 and tell us she didn't make it.

She's improving very very slowly. She's on a ventilator, is heavily sedated, so much so, she doesn't know we're there. She's bloated, doesn't open her eyes, and it's so heart-breaking, cause that person in the bed isn't Mom. I try to for-warn other family members who see her, but they aren't prepared for it. My step-brother and SIL called me the other day from seeing her. She was crying, and I do every time I leave her room.

Yesterday they stuck a tube into the abscess to drain it. Hopefully this is successful, because she won't survive surgery to remove it. In about a week they'll do another cat scan to see if it's disappeared.

She's in the Critical Care Trauma Unit, and it is a wonderful facility. Her blood pressure seems to have settled itself down, it was spiking and then dropping. Her body is cold and they've got a warming blanket on her, this fluctuates as well.

So there's the whole story. She has miraculously survived 2 major surgeries that she shouldn't have (her first one that diagnosed the diverticulitis had an 80% mortality rate, because of the length of time the poisons were through her body).
And now this. So it's not her time to go yet, we can only pray that the healing and after-care is efficient, effective and proper, now.

OMG! Sherry! I'm so sorry your Mom is going through all this, and you and your family too! I pray that all turns out well, and your Mom finally home with her family, feeling well.

Sherry I am sitting here with my mouth open in amazement that you still HAVE your Mom! You're right..it simply isn't her time!!! I am thankful is in in another facilicy and will be Praying that she's on the road to recovery!! Please DO keep us updated!!

That is SOME story, Jasdip! My, but your mom is tough!!!! I can't imagine my mom going through such a thing and having me sane during it all--I guess she passed down her good genes to you. I'm soooooooo glad they got her to a hospital that could handle all she threw at them. I'm really pulling for your mom, especially since she has miraculously made it this far. Thanks for checking in and please, never feel you're only venting. A lot of people care about how she and you are doing!

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother still having such struggles Sherry. She has to be tough to have survived what she has gone through. She is still in my prayers. Thanks for letting us all know how she and you are doing.

I'm so sorry for her, and for you. Heartfelt wishes for her recovery from all the difficult medical issues she has faced. Hugs to you as well because I know how it is to see a mother struggling as yours is.

Sherry, I am so sorry that mom is going thru all of this and that you are having to do so as well. Big hugs to you, mom and your family. She is quite a woman, and so are you.

Sherry, I am sorry to hear about what your Mom has gone through and I hope she is getting good care now. You have been through so many ups and downs and I can imagine how hard it has been for you and your family. Wishing your Mom all the best and hugs for you.
