I just got home from visiting her. She is drinking ginger-ale and is on a clear liquid diet....broths and cranberry juice and jello and black tea.
She really is just drinking the ginger-ale and tea though. She doesn't have an appetite for the soup.
Anyway, she's definitely coming along, they have her in a chair about an hour or 2 per day.
She has some nausea and dry heaving, and the nurse said she might be feeling a bit lousy until she passes some gas through her ostomy. I kept listening for it, to see if I heard any gurgles! LOL
Surgery is still on the list, to bypass her bladder. The doctor is in Florida on a much needed March break, and we'll re-visit the issue when he comes back.
I was thinking today that throughout this whole ordeal, and it's been months, Mom has NEVER uttered a negative word. Never complained about pain, being miserable, (and I cried when the nurse left the room trying to put the PIC line in.....an intervenous feeding line, and she had to stop cause she found an obstruction. All Mom said was "what else can go wrong") That brought the tears down my face, seeing her with a half-inserted needle (among many iv tubes).
Prior to this, I gotta tell you, she is not the most sunny side up, positive person. If it rains on a day when they go shopping, she'll say it "always" rains.
But with this, she's as strong as they come.
I asked her if she wanted to go ahead with the surgery and she does. Knowing the risk (possible death) she still wants to give it a shot.
Wow!! I was a little afraid to ask how she is because her situation was so dire, the last I heard. She really is an amazing woman and I continue to pray for her and you. Thanks for posting.
That is terrific news! I've been away but checked in to see if there was any news....thanks so much for the update. I will keep her in my prayers, Sher.
"I asked her if she wanted to go ahead with the surgery and she does"!! I think it's wonderful that SHE can make that decision. Please let us know when she'll be having the surgery!!
I;m so glad you asked, Country Bumpkin. I tried to post this aft. noon and ask for the latest on our friend, Jasdip's Mom. But my darn dial up kept disconnecting me. I finally gave up till now,
Jasdip, I marvel at your and your Mom's strength. Give her a gentle hug from us and tell her there are a lot of KT Prayers being said on her (and your) behalf. Hang in there, Kiddo, it sounds like she is improving everyday.
Such good news that she has rallied this far, with the appearance that she may make close to a full recovery.
And, that she's up for taking on the surgery.
However: often a person in such a circumstance considers that the alternative doesn't look too enticing.
As the haematology doc said to me, last fall: left untreated, one could expect about a 50% possibility of another embolism within about 30 days ... and of that crowd, in about 25% of cases it would be fatal.
Such statistics do tend to concentrate one's mind.
Good thoughts and hopes going to your Mom, and to you and the family and some prayers offered on your behalf, as well.
