Help! Hideous wall color has to be changed!

Saw a wonderful khaki color on the walls of a new home a few years back and fell in love with it. It was SW Kinetic Khaki, it was warm and oh so beautiful! So last year, I put it on my fireplace wall in the den and it's beautiful there.

Well I loved the color so much, I decided to put it in my LR as well. Now it's done and it looks HIDEOUS! I changed out my lightbulbs to Reveal bulbs and still it has a sickly green tone to it. Looks like the color of quickrete when you pour water on it! Ugly dark greenish gray. Just awful. What happened? Did they mix it wrong?

Anyone have suggestions for a beautiful beigy neutral color? I will have to repaint! Furniture is dark chocolate brown leather, rug is chocolate, blue and beige.

The name Khaki implies a green undertone. I have used Ellen Kennon's Taupe in my present living and dining rooms. I adore the color which is very neutral.
The half wall is EK Adobe with some Taupe added because the Adobe was a bit too green,

I've been staring at your layout for quite a while and really can't figure out what to suggest. It seems like you have so much space, but the kitchen looks awkward to me. Personally, I wouldn't want the clean up sink on the peninsula looking over the breakfast room, but I'm not really sure where else to suggest moving it. Butler's Pantry - if you really think kids are going to be running thru there, I'm not really sure if I would want it as my "snack center". Imagine when your kids are older and you and your DH are standing in there fixing coffee and bagels and the kids try to run through. Just seems like a small space to get those types of tasks done. Dish storage-I agree with Bmore that the type of hutch you're talking about could be difficult to access. Also, if your dishes are near the sink, they are fairly far from frig, pantry and proposed "snack center". The easiest path is right between the prep sink and range, which could be an issue. I also think you have a long walk with groceries from the garage, thru the mudroom, thru the butlers pantry into the kitchen. Depending on what you do with the pantry/laundry room space, you might want a door from the garage into one of those rooms so you have a straight shot with groceries. This might be crazy, but I almost see a better space with 2 islands instead of that peninsula. Shrink the bigger island the 6' and then add a second island next to it that would house the clean up sink and DW. You could unload dishes into upper cabs and lower drawers on the back wall.It wouldd almost be like a galley kitchen with 2 islands. Or...you could do 1 really long island. Another idea...does the pantry have to be on that side of the kitchen? If you moved it to the other side, eliminated the peninsula, closed up that pantry doorway, you would have more counter space(I think). You could move the range a little further towards the frig and get the clean up sink on the back wall. I'm sorry if this is sounding negative. I'm really just trying to help. There's just something not working for me here. Any chance of widening the kitchen at all? I think the biggest issue is that you have very limited wall space. You only really have the back wall, which when you factor in the doorway for the pantry, there's not that much room there either.

Can anyone recommend a silicone for around white quartzite where it meets wall that will not bleed into Calacatta Lux Quartzite? It is installed and the edges were not sealed. any help is greatly appreciate to be able to avoid these problems. We had a little silicone bleed one the one piece they sealed and acetone removed it. I want to avoid this, and ESPECIALLY these slow bleeds that take awhile to show. I want to put up tiles but not before I can test a good silicone for the edges and wait a few weeks. Thanks so so much in advance!!!! It is quartzite and passed all the tests, but when I learned hardness and porousity are two different things, it was already installed - came across this looking for maintenance and care.

I find it difficult to visualize another colour when the current one works but here goes... One option would be a warm ivory, pale pale yellow. Dial down the current colour a few notches. Another could be a terra cotta, burnt orange type colour. Dial up the gold a few notches. Not sure how that would fare next to the red in your kitchen though. Sorry I don't have actual paint manufacturers names and colours for these two options. Just took these pics from a House Beautiful book. I also thought a browny-pink could work. Very pale, too much yellow or grey in it to read pink. Something like Farrow & Ball's Pink Ground or Benjamin Moore's Silky Smooth. (On my screen, that's how they look. Might be very different in your space, with your lighting.) Depends on what direction you were thinking of going and how saturated you want your walls. Have you been checking out paint strips in the store? See what appeals to you there (blue? white?) and bring them home and see how they look in your space. Some will be a definite no, others might have promise.

so this was this year ... this season .. i guess i would just wait and see what happens next year ... i usually hesitate to fix things.. when im not sure they are broken .. do you recall any weather event .. like late frost.. freeze.. hail storm.. that could have damaged buds ... either way.. its a glorious color.. i wouldnt be that bummed with either flower .... ken

Jan, thanks for the list of colors. I will look all these up. It's always nice to know the name of a tried and true color someone has already used. I'm tired of guessing, although I saw the Khaki on the inside of a house and it was NOT green when I saw it. It was more the look of a paper grocery sack.

ncookin, sorry this happened to you. It's a sickening feeling, been there, done that. Let me ask, does it look horrid day and night or one or the other?

I know the color in my office at the house is Nantucket Gray and it looks beautiful in the daylight, but at night, OMG, I cringed when I saw it. So I've decided to put in lots and lots of light in the room. I've only seen it with the low wattage halogens we have in the recessed fixtures, but am hopeful with lamps and uplights the color will look better. I also plan on usin fabric and artwork that will have a cream background to help break up all that dark. I hope all of that will make it livable for me. I can't repaint or I should say DH will not repaint and I can't blame him. So I have to figure out a way to make it work. Ugh!! I think part of the problem with mine is I let DH chose the office furniture and he chose dark, then we have the olive green granite, so we have a very dark room. Actually it's the only dark room in the house. I was trying for the library affect, but I'm not a library girl. I like pastels but didn't have the heart to expect DH to work at a white desk in a light blue room. LOL I do hope you can remedy rather than have to repaint.

The easy way to tell if they mixed it wrong is to take a small dab on wipe it on the paint sample card. It should match exactly after it has dried. If it doesn't, take it back and get a new gallon.

Before you repaint, you might also try Phillips Halogena bulbs. They render color differently.

Different exposures and different color surfaces reflecting onto the walls can all make a difference. The EK Gustavian Gray that looked fabulous in my dining room, went all minty green in the bathroom. Bottom line is, you have to approach each room as a new project. Success in one room doesn't mean you don't have to do the swatching process all over again for the next room.

I love SW Latte for a nice Khaki color.If you want to go lighter you can go down the strip to SW Nomadic Desert . Really amazing strip all round. If you do a google images search you will find plenty of pics. It was used in a HGTV Dream House a few years .
