Whether you keep thr stucco lighter ir go darker depends in the amount of contrast you want. Here’s some random SW historic colors that may or may not work: rockwood green, roycroft pewter, roycroft brass, rockwood sash green, rockwood dark red, rockwood shutter green, hammered silver, downing earth, sage green light, aurora brown, bunglehouse gray, roycroft brass, roycroft suede. As for the door, pick the other colors first. I’d probably go a little lighter or brighter on the door so it doesn’t get lost. And in the spring I’d add some colorful flowers and pots around the doors and in the flower boxes to complement. I also think the white gutters are too much of a contrast.

You've got shakes and brick on the front and, what appears to be, vinyl along the side. Was the house built like this in the 1980's? If so, then just paint it all one color. Or remove the front brick and shingle and re-side. Or just re-side the whole thing in fiberboard if your budget allows. If you want to play with the roofline, then that's going to require some input from a professional (like an architect). I think painting it all one color is the answer. However, I am reading a book on Bungalows and Craftsman homes and they painted the upper and lower floors different colors specifically to make the homes appear lower and wider. So maybe that's an option--but you don't have a visual divider between the 2 floors on the sides so, again, I would just go with all one color. You don't need to make it look less like a dutch colonial, you just need it to look like the prettiest Dutch Colonial. You need nice landscaping.

Littlebug, thank you for that feedback. We had considered tearing out the brick planter when we pull out the old cedars, so your comment is validating. What a great idea to eliminate the middle post of the pergola. Perhaps a more substantial corner post would work better. I agree that the paint color of the pergola is not right do we will address that.

Couple comments: All front facing will be stationary windows - not to code, need ventilation and emergency egress board n batten gables - probably will not look very good, as the roof extends farther down the wall on the left than it does on the right (I believe the slopes are different for each side of the ridge). Having a band, with the change in siding, does not relate to anything on the left and there is also the bumpout in the wall footprint. It is also a more "classical" look, whereas this is more of a "modern" look (describing in basic terms). new horizontal lattice along the bottom - are you talking just replacing what's there, or more? If you do any vertical board&batten, that will counter against the strong lines of the slatwall (much more prominent with air gaps than horizontal Hardie siding will be)
