TGIF 8-8-08 Don't forget the Olympics tonight

Well it has certainly been a long week at this house. I was looking foreward to DH being gone to Sturgis to give me some time to unwind with the kids and just hang out, but Someone decided differently. Yesterday afternoon I started getting contractions everytime I would stand up and move around and was sick with the flu. My DH left at 10 yesterday morning and I was home alone with the little ones. My mil came and watched them while I went to the hospital and was monitored. Turns out I have the flu and it is causing iritation contractions because of the stomach and intestinal flu. I also have one heck of a tension headache that I suspect might be turning into a migraine.

Back now, went in and Dr. gave me a shot for the headache saying it sounded and acted like a migraine and if tylenol with codeine wasn't cutting it we needed to do something else. They gave me a shot and took some blood to make sure that I didn't have preeclampsia. It sure has been a long day. DH went to get Hayden and the girls are going down to my sister's for tomorrow.

So not much cooking around here unless you count canned chicken and star soup that I am having for supper with some crackers.

So hope to enjoy the Olympic opening ceremonies tonight and hope that the headache does go away and the contractions stay away.

Good luck, Stacie, I'm thinking good thoughts for you, I hope you feel better soon.

I'm on my way out to clean the pool, Makayla is spending the night with me tomorrow and I KNOW she'll want to bake something. We'll probably have waffles for breakfast on Sunday and I don't have one darned other thing planned, just a weekend with The Princess. Some movies, a trip to the playground, some time in the pool, some baking.

I don't usually post here, but always read this thread. Just wanted to say, take care of yourself Stacie, and hope you feel better soon.

Annie your weekend sounds fun, and I know you will have a great time!

Funny how the last couple of Friday's, there hasn't been too much posting on this thread. I guess the heat and summer has everyone pre-occupied.

Nothing much happening here this weekend. It is supposed to be cool for a few days, so I want to get some bread baked, some muffins baked, and another of Ann's raspberry tarts made,(made one last weekend for company and they were fighting over the leftovers the next day. Has anyone used blueberries to make it?). Would also like to make a few batches of ice cream (as the heat wave is supposed to come back next week). Then I would like to get some painting done, as it has been months since I have.

Lori I'm rooting for the Pats just for you. But I gotta tell ya I hate watching basketball. Sharon we saw that production here in LA. John Boy is no Peter Fonda, but it was still pretty good! Bessiedawg you go girl Kidney stones are no fun. I watched DH go through a lithotrypsy (sp?). Susie the caregivers forum will help. I'd also recommend seeing if you can get a social worker to help convince her. Good luck. I've told my boys to give me a martini and chocolate when the time comes that I cannot be easily cared for and they can do what they want, I won't fight. (finish that sentence, or look it up on YouTube) Changeling, feel better. Me? Yesterday it was Cotillion with DS #2 - parent/child dance. Awwwww. I tried to get out of it by scheduling his teeth (two of 'em) extraction for that afternoon. It didn't work, he came home, got over it, and said 'get dressed mom, we're going dancing'. Dang (for those who don't know me yet, thats why they call me 'Evil Jessy'). Sent the rest of the family out for dinner. Today I drove DS #1 to take a practice SAT/ACT exam, and we're hanging the rest of the day. Tomorrow is the game! Basketball, right? What do I know.....its all about the food and company. We are starting nine days of vacation today. Yippee! In doing my maternal genealogy DH & I have located about a dozen graves of my ancestors from the 17th, 18th & 19th centuries throughout New England. Many served in various military capacities. For the past 15+ years we have used Memorial Day as a time to visit the graves & do maintenance. Many are in very rural areas but located on private property. Others are in rural cemeteries that have virtually been lost to time. We cut back encroaching forest growth, straighten the stones, & plant a daylily. The oldest military grave dates to 1687. It took us 5 years to find the site. The headstone was buried halfway...we knew it HAD to be the right grave so DH started digging. We were able to get a tracing of the stone's engraving for verification. It's quite a hike off the road to reach the grave site. We notified the historical society of the location back in the early 90's so Samuel's grave now has a permanent Veteran's placque & flag. Buried near Samuel we located the graves of his second wife & 2 of their children who died in infancy. Other graves are in more prominent cemeteries & we visit just to pay our respects & leave one rose. We'll start our trip before dawn on Monday & won't be home until well after dark. All we can reach in one day are those graves in MA & NH. The rest we visit periodically to keep them maintained. Today & tomorrow we'll do some garden work & BBQ. Next week, we'll take the ferry to Orient Point & spend the day garden center hopping. Then, we'll toss a suitcase in the car & take off for a few days...location unknown as of yet. Gina, have fun and SNEAK pictures if you have to, LOL. Jessica I do feel your pain. Not only about the parking lot but about the driver's training. Eeek, I remember not being worried about Amanda but Ashley scared me to freakin' death! Lee, have fun as a "weekend widow". Here that only happens during deer season. Or small game season or fishing season or turkey season or....well, you get the idea. LOL Fortunately, Elery doesn't hunt furry creatures although he may start if he ever hits another deer with his vehicle! David, have fun and say hello to Cathy for me. don't let her get you all drunk or anything. (grin) Katie, good luck with the lucky dog. Doesn't sound too lucky to me! I did my weeding two nights ago, I'm good for a week or so, thank goodness. We have rain, rain and more rain here. SharonCB, stay cool, I'm going to think "no forest fires" for you. What am I up to? I'm going tomorrow morning to pick some more strawberries, I picked all of my own and now I have to go to the local u-pick. $1.10 a pound, it's not so bad, I'll go first thing in the morning if it isn't raining. We have 28 new baby chicks at the farm, so I need to take Makayla and Bud to see them and I got my first "harvest" of radishes, so I'm hoping for some salad greens to go with those. Lambsquarter for sure. Sunday Amanda, David and the kids are supposed to come over for dinner and a swim in the pool. Of course, it's supposed to rain, so we'll see what happens. TGIF, everyone. TGIF for sure!! I've been on the road all week and I'm glad to be home FINALLY!! Stacie, hot as heck here too...but I LOVE summer so the heat doesn't bother me at all. I'll take it over winter and cold temps.....yuck. Linda, I know for sure you will have a great time with the girls....I still remember when I finally figured out your forum name. Katie, congrats to beating the big "C" pal! I'm still shocked at how you pulled that off at camp last year. I still love you stemless glass tip! Pat, I missed the culinary school thing. Too cool! I'd love to read your blog or at least follow up here on the forum. What a trooper you are with all you've been through the last couple of years. Lindac, I'm thinking you will be there reguardless....I know you love those Grandkids of yours. Stay cool whatever you decide. Nancy, have a great time with your company....sixties would be okay but I'm loving 87 at ten....perfect for skinny dippin'! Gina, you sure are a busy lady. I wouldn't think you need lessons with all of the ping pong playing you've been doing. I hope the new paddle does ya good! San, glad to hear you had a great time at the cottage. I see you have been up to some other fun too...I'm REALLY jelous over that one. Hot here too, triple digit temps are forcasted through next week here. I've been on the road all week and glad to be home....so is Lucy. I'm headed back to the city tomorrow to take in a little of the PGA...Tiger ended the day very good today. I'll be doing some more canning tomorrow evening...that a general chores sum up my weekend so far.....ya never know who may show up at the lake. Have a GREAT weekend everyone!!! David

I wondered the same thing about blueberries. Has anyone tried it with Ann's raspberry tart recipe? Not that it doesn't look fabulous with raspberry's but I have an almost 3 year old who LOVES blueberries. I don't personally like sweets, but my DH and daughter do, so they are my inspiration :) Christy

Hope you feel better soon Stacy.

For the first time in a month I'm aware that it is Friday... well very early Sat morning now. My lay-off has come to an end for now and I go back to work on Monday. I didn't know how bad I needed an extended break. I'm alive and living again!

A rather strange day. New bartender and I struck up a friendship. Alas she is less then half my age so it will be just friends. She had guessed I was "not older then 33" which puts her off by 11 years. Still it was so good for my ego to have an interested gal being friendly.

Just took a walk down my drive as Dolly had been barking at something. Nothing out there to be found but it is one beautiful night out there. Out here in the Thumb we don't get much light pollution so the stars are very clear. The Milky Way makes a neat white stripe across the sky. Some lightning flashing out over Saginaw Bay which is 30 miles north of me. Probably rain by morning but clear and cool right now. Not in the mood for alcohol or I'd take a bottle and go have a sit in the moonlight.

My outdoor cat Tippy got into a bad fight and came home all bloody. Thought he might lose an eye this morning. Patched him up and put some boric acid eye drops on his wounded eye. Must have felt good because he didn't seem to mind my putting stuff in his eye. Happy to report the swelling is way down and he looks better tonight.

Going to buy a storm door in the morning. Only one in stock a couple weeks ago and I need to get another. The garage didn't really need one but both doors are on the front of the house and it looks funny to only have one storm door. Dad said I should close off the porch but I don't know if I have that much energy. Grew potted tomatoes and peppers instead of flowers the last couple years and don't know if I want to lose the porch space now.

So it goes. I need to take some cyclobenzaprine so I can get back to sleep. Doc gave it to me for my back problems but it makes a pretty decent sleeping pill. Way better then ambien but not as good as some opioids. I'll feel buzzed all day tomorrow from it so I only take it when sleeping is otherwise impossible.
