If your sleeping in a van, or a pickem up with a cap, the things to use are those long porch swing or glider cushions! They don't give the hassle of inflating/deflating an air mattress, other stuff can be piled on top if them for travelling, and when they get to looking bad, just toss them, then ride around on trash night, and get a new set, or one, as you desire! there is always somebody tossing perfectly good ones out, because they don't match their decor, or aren't the right color. A good thing is--they don't lose their air when the night is half gone, which requires that you get out and pump it up again, to sleep until it goes down again! Oh, if you don't like to pick one up that way--just go down and buy a new one! Get a color that doesn't show the dirt! I've used them at times, and they work well. And my old bones didn't hurt the next morning!

I'm a little late on the draw, but I actually came to this website seeking opinions about the Original Mattress Factory. I've been looking at Stearns and Foster, but haven't been able to swallow completely that $1800, on sale, is an appropriate price to pay for a mattress set. So, I started looking around and came across the site for the Original Mattress Factory. Their site showed that the orthopedic mattress had nearly the same specifications as the S&F (12 3/4 gauge, 6 turn, offset coil), but was MUCH less expensive. Curious about their customer service, I dropped an email asking some silly question about whether their coils were "double tempered". To my surprise, Gordon, the owner of the Orlando factory, called me the very next day. He was very open to questions and confirmed what I had already suspected: that he and his partner had spent years working for Sealy/S&F before deciding that they could make just as good a mattress at half the cost. They offer 12 year warranties and an unheard of one-year comfort guarantee. You can even go to their factory and watch them make their mattresses. Before I hung up, I confessed to Gordon that my remaining apprehension was less due to the fact that they are located two hours away, than it was that their prices seemed too good to be true. I'm in marketing, and I understand how very much the mattress companies spend, and less marketing does allow for lower prices..but dang! Their mattress is in the $650 range, one third of the S&F while on sale. I'm thinking of driving down next week to see the place for myself, and would love any additional information that you could provide about your new mattress. So far, it seems that all has gone well. No?

I would not do bunks with low ceilings, but my college dorm had bunks we could configure into a taller and lower bed and most of us used the taller with the lower one tucked under one corner like 2/3 of what mjlb posted. I was going to suggest something like that, even with a full or queen on the bottom because you only need clearance for foot and leg space -- not head clearance. My grandmother's guest room at one point had what were then called Hollywood studio or daybeds -- two twins tucked into a corner, often with a large square table in the corner that one of the beds slid under or both beds could just push up to it. I saw some with elevated shelves in the back or other clever details (update the idea with a docking or charging station, etc.). Either of these options could also have a trundle underneath too -- if you have room to pull it out.

I just spent hours and hours looking for a 9" drop bed skirt. It should not be this hard!!! I bought the low profile box springs, aka bunky boards (where did they ever come up with that name!) for 2 queen beds for a loft with a very low ceiling height. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your posts. All my typical online shopping sites failed me, and I thought I checked Amazon, but perhaps not. Looks like the more expensive one there is the way to go. And according to reviews, I know I'll have to beware of color. Here is another alternative I almost went with as a last resort - a box spring "wrap". And as far as I could see, it's available in black, stone, white and ivory. Wasn't exactly what I wanted, but thought it would be better than the actual box spring I'd been looking at for over a year! The reviews seemed good.
