What color window shade would you put in here?

I am thinking about putting either bamboo shades or faux wood blinds in this room, but not sure which I think matches best.

What is your opinion? Would you do bamboo or the faux wood and in what colors?

The walls in the room are BM Pismo Dunes, and the accent colors are mostly brown and various shades of RH Silver Sage/ and Seafoam colors. The trim in the house is all white..

Thanks in advance for any help.

hmmm.. such a bright room with beautiful windows!

If it were my room I would stay with a medium tone. The bamboo would provide a good texture with all the crispness you have there. The wood blinds in a dark espresso color would be nice but more modern in my eyes.

Personally I think it could use some more brown and would go with a bamboo roman shade that complements your sectional. Beautiful room by the way.

Personally, I think you're right on target with the crape myrtle. Since your area is close to woods, it's likely to be on the dry side, and crapes will do fine in those conditions. As far as interest, crape myrtles give you blooms all summer, good fall color, and beautiful architectural form all winter (assuming you don't prune its beauty right off). Add that to how reasonably priced crape myrtles are and it would be hard to beat them. If you go with a crape myrtle, be sure to train it to go straight up before allowing the crown to get too full. That way, there will be plenty of room for the grasses underneath. If I were you, I'd complete this group by underplanting the entire area heavily with bulbs, especially narcissus. They like a good summer's baking too. You can plant them up under the grasses. That way, when you prune the grasses in late winter, the area won't look so forlorn until spring.

I don't have pictures of our ancient MB, but I noticed that yours seems to be close to your neighbors. I am a fanatic about privacy, so I had wooden blinds installed on the large window in our MB. They've been up for 15 years and when we remodel later this year, we'll have new blinds. Am very satisfied with blinds, as they give almost total light control and can be adjusted for any privacy condition that one needs. If I were putting blinds above your tub, I'd add a valance or scarf or tie-back curtains to soften the look. If you're thinking about curtains or other fabric treatments, you might have a look at countrycurtains dot com. They have a great selection of looks and their prices are very, very reasonable (and their customer service is excellent). At the very least you'll be able to see lots of window treatments, from contemporary to ultra-feminine. Could I ask you about your shower? We're also probably going to install a drop-in. Where did you get yours, and what are its dimensions, height and width?

The dining room: Love the wall color, and I know you donÃ¢ÂÂt want to hear this, but I love the color of the furniture. I think you could have an elegant, almost Gustavian look going on in there. I would change out the hardware to something in a brushed nickel finish. Love the chandy. I would want drapery panels in here, and would treat each window separately. Something like this might work, and would pair the rich wall color with the lighter finished furniture: audrey drape Then something simple for the chair seats: grace teal Try the trio of vases you have on the window seat in the FR as a centerpiece grouping on the DR table if you go with these fabrics. If you donÃ¢ÂÂt want to use the cabinets for showing dishes, you could get some of the window wallpaper in a simple frost and cover the glass. etched glass wallpaper for windows Gathered sheer fabric is an alternative, but I am not sure that works with the style of the furniture. Or, take the cabinet out completely and use it in the sitting room as a bookcase. Replace it in the DR with another side piece, perhaps a solid wood piece in the finish color of the tabletop. I will say, tho, that I like the cabinet in the DR in part because it balances the height of the windows. For the sitting room, it is hard to say because we donÃ¢ÂÂt know what the furniture or flooring will be like. But I would again think about panels, perhaps something in a textured linen or chenille, for a more casual and cozy feel. For the FR, I would like to see woven wood blinds or regular wood blinds to bring the floor color up to the window level. You could add fabric valances above the windows for some softness and color, and do matching or coordinating cushions on the window seats, and pillows for the sectional. You have a lovely home - how fun to have lots of great spaces to decorate.

Hi chloenkitty, You have a beautiful home with wonderful views to the outside. As a Interior designer I would suggest to apply a soft, translucent fabric such as two sheer curtains for the window treatment to avoid obstructing the view. Additionally, if you want to tie the dining area with the kitchen you can add a topper with the same fabric you use for the kitchen window without applying anything to the small side windows. This suggestion coordinates well with the style of the overall space, such as crystal chandeliers, white cabinets, contemporary tufted dining seating, and contemporary furniture in the living area. Thanks to both of you for your responses and compliments. i am thinking the bamboo would look great, but here is the kicker..
Since it is part of my great room there is also a slider (behind the sectional where you see part of our temp. chandy hanging) and then a triple window over my sink.

The kitchen colors are absolute black granite on the perimeter cabinets with a cherry stained alder wood and the island is distressed black painted alder with typhoon bordeaux granite (has black, brown, cream, wine, and some terracota in it). Would you still stick with the bamboo in the medium tone?

Maybe a tortoise shell roman shade. Still gives the texture but will has a variety of tones in it that should work with your kitchen colors too.

Remember that grass blinds can be fairly see through when lit from behind. If you use a bamboo, use a larger type rather than the thinner sticks or strands. I tend to like venetian blinds in wood or faux wood because they can also be adjusted while down. My reasoning for going with the floor tone is that then they match the "architecture" rather than the decor, so as the decor evolves you don't necessarily change them. just my opinion.

Pal makes a very good point. And actually I too prefer blinds because you can allow light in without it blinding you by adjusting the slats. Too bad they don't make verticals in wood.

Oh WOW! Thank you Pal. Then that's the way I'd suggest GillyLilly goes in her home. Wood horizontal blinds for the windows with matching verticals for the doors.
