Honestly though: I think high gloss anything is high maintenence. Water spots show more, dust shows more, everything shows more. A surface with a low/no gloss surface often needs nothing but a damp wipe, when high gloss requires a wipe, rinse and dry to look as good.

Still, I love my polished granite counters. Sometimes the look is worth the work, I guess.

But I'd never [personally] do it on a floor, where it magnifies every scratch and spot.

I am also considering using the original sealer as a final finish which is like "semi gloss" maybe that's the best compromise.

Poorowner, you can cover the high gloss with one or two coats of the satin gloss, which provides a nice soft...satin...finish. It's quite pretty, and I like it much more than the original.

Just fyi, the Original Waterlox finish is very glossy too, much more than a semi-gloss. I'm not sure you even need to go for the high gloss. I used the Original on my bedroom floors and it was too glossy, had to switch to Satin for the final coats. It seems to wear very well, and I'm very happy with the depth it gives to the wood. However, the smell is quite strong, so plan on being out of the house for a while after you apply.
