kitchen cabinet paint gloss or high gloss?

I need to pick a paint for the cabinets in my kitchen very soon. The painter likes to use semi-gloss because he says gloss looks plasticy. I like shine. I like the feel of gloss. I have painted doors and woodwork with gloss. Anyone know if there is a difference between gloss and high gloss. Anyone painted cabinets with gloss and sorry abt it?

Sheen levels are not standardized. Semi-gloss in one brand of paint may look more like gloss in another brand of paint. Sooo, you'll really need to look at some good sized samples of all the available sheen levels of the particular brand and type (oil, latex....) of paint that your painter will be using.

High gloss to me looks really shiny no matter what kind of lighting you have. What about semi-gloss? Low lustre is very low shine and high gloss is very high shine. Semi-gloss is kind of in the middle.

Are your doors flat, or raised panel? If they are flat, you can roll with a foam roller to get a more even finish. Raised panel requires more work and brushing. If you can remove the doors and lay them flat, you can get a better finish. If you overbrush the paint, it will show brush marks. Also, use a soft bristle brush. I prefer High Gloss myself. I would not use Pro Classic. I would use a better grade of high gloss finish. I would not use a poly over the paint because it will affect the color sometimes. I did my old cabinets in Polyurethane Oil Gloss White. It looked great, but because of the oil, it began to yellow over time.

Semi-gloss is normally used. High gloss can emphasize bumps and lumps and is more difficult to apply.
