Your kitchen is similar to mine, and I'm also in the process of remodeling, getting white cabinets, etc.

I chose to go with color. I'm laying Crossville Color Blox, in the checkerboard pattern. I'm using a rust and cream color.

But I'm a sucker for color on kitchen floors! Here's their link in case you're interested. We're also doing it in the foyer with a checkerboard pattern. I think out of all the remodeling and adding-on that we're doing, the floor is the one I'm looking forward to the most! Most people just don't do color anymore. :(

I really push this website because IMO, their tile is by far the best out there. On the left side of the page, they have a lot of other tile choices you can get lost in.

I LOVE color... but do want to stay fairly neutral for this floor. Beautiful, and with depth and interest... (and of course, a nice complement to the granite) but *neutral*.

I am also staying away from regular ceramic tile... too cold (for my climate, anyway!) and too unforgiving when I drop salsa or mayonnaise jars!!!

Could we see the tile choices butted up to your existing wood floors? Thanks! Right now I'm leaning towards the dark for contrast but don't know if it's good with your other floors.
A coloured floor could be good too!

I think it would help to see the tiles next to your existing wood as well. I kept flipping thru them, but hard to tell when they are not all in the same photo with same lighting conditions.
I don't care for the light tile. Not because it's not pretty, I just think with everything light, it might look hospital-sterile when all is said and done?? If you were putting a strong color on the wall, I could see the lighter floor. Otherwise, just kindof drab to my eye.
So I vote for medium or dark, depending on which looks best with your existing floors. I lean towards the dark, but I LOVE dark floors, especially in contrast to lighter cab's and counters.

I vote for the medium. Looks good with the granite & the HW floors. Also, won't show foot prints like the dark one.

I vote for the medium color tile. Your kitchen will be beautiful.

I'm torn between the light and the medium. I like the light bec it seems to go so well with your countertop. But I like the medium bec it focuses on the gold in the countertop and isn't trying to match exactly (it appears to be related, not matching, which might work out well?) Gosh, at least you have three awesome choices! you really can't go wrong :)

Your kitchen is coming along very nicely. I am not sure about which color. . . .and I hesitate to say this but I am not sure that I like two "stone with movement" patterns in your room. Your kitchen windows and cabs have a traditional and modest feel and scale. The floor tiles, however, are big and have lots of movement. If you are doing granite on the counters, I think that something without a rock look and something smaller in scale would work better. Maybe tiles in a hopscotch pattern. Just a thought. The room is really beautiful, though.

I either need to use this Duraceramic tile or something similar -- or go with a nice, quality vinyl.

I understand your concerns about ceramic tile. We have ceramic in my kitchen and, while it works in my home, it certainly IS a hard surface. Looking at your kitchen, I think a pattern that is smaller than 18 inches would be better. For example, a hopscotch pattern with one tile being a 12 inch square and the other a 6 inch square would seem to be the right scale and energy for your room. (See picture on the right on the link below, cursor down a bit.)
The edge of the tile/grout line creates an interesting pattern so that you don't have to rely on the tile itself to have a pattern in it. Given all the square and rectangle lines in your room, I think having a fluid pattern on your counters and floor might be too much. BTW are you installing a backsplash?

I would say a definite no to the lightest one because it looks cold and boring. The flaxen is nice but I think it has too much pattern when paired with the granite. I like the darker one but think it won't go well with your wooden floors. Perhaps you need to look further to find that one perfect choice.

I couldn't see any of the pictures where you put the samples next to your wooden floors. It could just be my laptop; it has a few years on it.

Deltabreeze, Thanks for the clarification. That does look nice, and I can see what you mean. And no, we are not installing a blacksplash beyond the standard 4" granite backsplash. I want to keep that area between there and the upper cabinets *changeable* -- with paint, etc.

I vote for the medium. The light one looks very sterile to me. The Dark is nice but I think the medium complements the color of your granite better. Good Luck!

I added 2 more possibilities into the mix... tiles that I think are less busy and might not *compete* with the granite counter tops as much as these original 3 might. Please check out the thread and advise!

Lynn - Your pictures still aren't showing up, but if I copy and paste the properties, I can see them. You might want to try using Photobucket for posting your pictures. Someone on the other post mentioned that they would like to see the darkest tile next to your floor. I'd like to see that also.

What about wood?

I had exactly the same dilemma... how to coordinate with the counters and the cabinets? Plus I hate the hardness and coldness of ceramic and stone floors.

My contractor suggested I just continue the hardwood floors into the kitchen.

"But... but ... what about spills? What about water and stuff?"

Says he: "With the latest polyurethane coatings, you don't have to worry about that."

So I did it. I have hardwood floors in my kitchen and I absolutely LOOOOVE them. Warm and forgiving and perfect. Easy to clean, easy to stand on.

mclarke - I was just thinking the same thing. I think that's why I liked the idea of the darkest tile, since I love white cabinets with dark wood floors.
