I'm losing my hair!!!

I'm 45 and slightly pre-menopausal. I am losing my hair in droves!!! I have a great deal of new growth as well, but it can't grow near as fast as I am loosing it! My hair has gotten consideralby thinner VERY rapidly. Has anyone experienced this and if so is there anything I can do about it?

If I remember correcctly, hair loss is caused by too much androgen hormone in relation to female sex hormones. Do a google search and you'll probably find lots of info. I'll do one and see what I can come up with.

Well, the damage has been done, so please don't fret yourself into a sleepless night. I have burned them, froze them and generally made myself a target of the plant police. They can be tough. If you get it back to the place where they thrived before, it could conceivably re-start. Keep it warm and moist, but not wet. Do not trim it anymore, let the pieces wither and shrivel. Do not re-pot or otherwise disturb it any more. Remember that with less greenery, it will need less water. And wait. This is not the time of year it makes new stems, so if it just sits there, that is normal. The parts nearest the soil need to be somewhat succulent for re-growth to occur. The brown bark nearest the soil covers the green that photosynthesizes. If you have even 1/2 inch of sturdy stem, you will probably have a little plant in the spring.

for some reason, i stopped getting emails about the follow-ups. thank you so much for the ideas everyone. gmp3- i didn't even think about gray with green!! i love that print. i have dorian gray in the living room and hall so it would def be easier to continue the gray into the bathroom. would it be too dark? there is no window. I also have revere pewter in another bedroom so I can use the left over. I was planning on using revere pewter in the yellow bathroom. we decided on this tile for the kitchen and hall: 'canyon expresso' from lowes, would this work as well? I'd love to be able to use all the stuff we already have as it would really help us on the cost and labor. i love that vanity, and i can't find it. please send me a link. thanks again.

I like Linda's suggestion. I did something similar a few years ago. I wanted a very Spanish Colonial lamp, but everything I found looked too new, too cute, too generic, or was too large for the space I needed. Still searching, I walked into an antique store in Old Town Albuquerque and fell in love with an antique chalkware santo (statue of a saint). The owner suggested a lamp place to take it to. There, they created the perfect base for the statue and attached it with museum putty, so that it wouldn't be ruined by glue. The post curves around my statue and I was able to pick the perfect shade for it. I love it and always get complimented on it. It's the perfect size, one-of-a-kind, beautiful, old, and adds so much character to my room. You might be able to find a great piece of pottery in the right color and have it attached as mine was. Our LR has about the same dimensions as yours: 12' x 20', and has some of the same issues. It is a very difficult room. And we really only have one solid wall. You see the long wall, with the fireplace in the center and glass on either side. The opposite long "wall" (behind the sofa) isn't a wall at all, but is open to the rest of the great room (see the floor, the cork is the LR and the pavers are the "hall"). You see the one short wall which is mostly glass with room for a small bookcase on the 3' of wall that is there. The wall not shown is the solid wall and has the TV canted out from the wall (corner of TV table is visible in pic), sort of in the corner like your TV. We tried various options with the furniture lined up straight. But it really didn't work for TV viewing, which is primarily what happens in this room. So we wound up with the sofa angled toward the TV, and DH's chair/ottoman at the end of the room. The club chair in the bottom left of the picture isn't great for TV viewing, but works for visiting. This picture isn't that great, but I already had it in my PC, so . . .

Thanks!! I also called my OBGYN and she has asked me to come in to do some labs. She feels it could have something to do with my Thyroid.

I'm an RN and I USED to sell hairmax lasercombs (until eBayers undercut me) ... THIS COMB DOES WORK and has just gained FDA approval for treating hairloss. Get it on auction or look up company website.

I began loosing my hair in my middle 40's and my hairdresser gave me a piece of advice straight from a dermotologist and it has worked wonderfully. Make sure you are taking enough folic acid (if you take a multivitamin, it has enough) and then add a pill/tablet of the B vitamin, Biotin. It took about 3 months for it to begin working on me but after that 3 months, my hair started thickening up again. I have been taking this for 7 years now and my hair is almost as thick as it was when I was a teen. I was told that this works for most people but not all.
Dermotologists will give you the same combo in an injection but it will cost about $150 a shot.

Hmm, Steffy, I started taking a really good multi-vitamin plus food carotene and a multi-B awhile back. My hairdresser noticed about six months ago that I had a bunch of new hair growing in and we joked about it probably being a pre-cursor to facial hair. I never thought it could be from vitamins.

Hi Mrs. H. I just found your post and was wondering how you are doing today, four years later. I've been losing my hair for a year and I'm premenopausal. It is very scary.

I think it is a no win situation, no matter what you take. I have very thin hair and it is hereditary, my Dad and Mom had thin hair. I think it can be an aging thing also. I was temporarily on a pill and I have forgotten what it was, almost had to be blood pressure pills, that also caused hair loss. My sister was advised to take thyroid pills for thinning hair LOL check the side effects for that stuff..hair loss. I have just adjusted to my seeing my pink scalp when I do my hair. I am not going to worry over any thing as simple as hair loss. I was told that the hair follicle is dead and nothing is going to bring it to life.
