Yep May and G-Day are getting nearer......Sydney brought her announcements in yesterday...and of course all the other stuff.....she thought she needed...the big mug, tshirt, goes on and on to a tune of 400.00! Ackkk....Stacy

just wait for the college ones lol. my dh is working on an honors BS/MS in engineering and has earned admission into several prestigous honor societies along the way. well every one of those societies has sashes, tie tacks, cuff links, tassle additions, diploma covers on and on...he's not into much of it but i will make sure he has his tau beta pi stole & honor cords and a few other things. i'm planning to spend as much on his grad party as our wedding plus we're also doing that 3-4 week hawaii trip in celebration too lol.

good thing he will be making 4 times as much $$ when he is done! ~ liz

Omg! How is it almost that time already? Its insane the way that time flies by like it does.

Zachery will be a junior next year. I think that I need to seriously start putting money back for all of this. LOL!

Are you planning a big party or a smaller family only celebration for her?

I am SORE - spent 2-1/2 hours bent over, yanking the dreaded oxalis pes-caprae (Bermuda Buttercup) weed out wherever I could reach. It's times like this I can't imagine having to take care of something bigger than our 1/6 of an acre. How do people do it? Maybe they hire help, I can't imagine being able to do it all by oneself (as I do). The weeds will come back, of course, so I'll need to do another round in a month or so. Yes, definitely time to bait again with Sluggo, too! The bearded iris have been blooming for over a month, and the white callas are finally starting to bloom too. They are one of my favorite pairings. And the freesias and ranunculus are putting up buds, all ready to bloom soon. I can hardly wait - I love those two bulbs. I never used to like ranunculus, but the new Bloomingdale hybrids totally won me over. And who can resist the sweet perfume of freesias? This was a bouquet from last spring - I meant to cut some callas and iris today, but was just too tired after all that work!

That's an interesting theory, catnappurr, about putting the feeders out early. I have mine out right now, in the exact same spot it was last summer. It was last August that I first started noticing hummingbirds at my mom's house. Our yellow-orange trumpet vine (flava, I think) that frames the dining room window started blooming after years of only putting out vines and leaves. We don't get as much sun as it would probably like, but it still put out quite a few flowers which the hummers were drawn to. My mom and I were enchanted and got lots of nice views of them flitting about just inches from our dining room window. Inspired, I made a little whisky bottle feeder and they liked that even better than the trumpet vine! Don't worry, the whiskey was long gone! As far as I could tell, we had 4 hummingbirds. We may have had more, but that was the most I ever saw at one time. At least two appeared to be young males, with little dark spots on their throats. I'm hoping they will return, but am also worried about their survival chances, given the high mortality from migration, plus Katrina on top of it. My other fear is that they may not associate my mom's house with springtime food, so may not show up until the summer when the trumpet vine blooms. I don't know if they're that smart, but I think they do have pretty impressive memories about when and where to find food. This year, I've added some flowers that provide earlier bloom--Aquilegia canadensis, and also some Bee Balm that should hopefully start in June, well before the late-blooming Trumpet vines. I also have some Cardinal Climbers sprouting in peat pots that I plan to put in a pot at the sunny southwest corner of my mother's home. I'm also on the lookout for Impatiens at the Home Depot (or wherever) and hope to put those out as soon as they become available. I am waiting anxiously, hoping that I will soon see the little guys! It is my hope, also, that I can increase their population, and have a better chance for early returnees. I'd like to see hummers from mid April through mid September and plan to keep doing whatever it takes to improve my chances.

We've seen lots of barrier islands and worse from KD drawings here, Remodelfa! ;-) But it's not a barrier as long as it has a prep sink. I hope that you will not lose that, Madsmama, in the medium and small island options? I'm hoping it was just forgotten in the translation, but not intentionally left out? How do you foresee the seating being used? Often? Having seating right in front of the fridge could be a big pain. How many seats do you want and need? There is a lot of difference between the 2 too-tight seats on the medium island and the 4 that will comfortably fit at the peninsula. I'd want to move the range to the left a bit for 2 reasons...Not having to navigate around the island corner to go back and forth from fridge to stove, and so it is situated fully behind the island. I think it will look better as a focal point if the island and range, plus hood, all line up. OH! I just reread your previous post. Part of what we were trying to accomplish for you was getting your fridge closer to the action, and you haven't achieved that in any of these plans. What about swapping the oven/fridge area for the closet, so the closet in the next room is moved right, and the fridge and oven get the prime spot closer to the range?

kvetch - KC has the Australian finger lime (the fruit is elongated and "finger like"). Apparently the finger limes have roundish beads/"caviar" as juice vesicles versus the related "Australian red lime" (which is small and lime-shaped that a number of us now have) that has the more elongated juice vesicles... more like a regular lime. Both types of vesicles can be squeezed out (depending on how you cut it) from what I gather, although it looks like the finger lime vesicles spill out on their own once cut vs the red lime. lol Pic of the Australian red lime (aka "blood lime" aka "red centre lime") vesicles -

I can't believe Sydney is graduating already! Where did our gangly little Syd go? Oh yeah, she grew up to be a beautiful young lady! Aren't you just busting your buttons? She's come down an awfully long road!

When you share how good she is doing I think back to when she couldn't face going to classes...I'm soooo glad she was able to get over that...and move along...I worried about her.

She is such a beautiful girl...I hope she does well with whatever she wants to do.

She sure grew up fast.

Wow-the costs seem unreal!! Liz-what are you doing with the dogs when you are on your trip?? Sparky goes to an all day play kennel and is thrilled when we pull in the parking lot.

Though we loved every minute of every graduation, it's pleasing me no end to NOT be doing that this year! All six of the kids have graduated from college and grad school, so we're done until the grandkids start in 2021! It was a never-ending ritual every year, with one or another or more graduating high school or college or both. Ahhh, I'm relaxing now....And no more tuition payments, either! Hmmm, maybe we'll have a Not Graduating Party this summer.

Congratulations to all of you who have the season to look forward to. It's fun, and we loved it! Be proud and enjoy.

This is the first year we have not had anyone in school or even applying. The youngest graduated last May from law school and no one else talks about graduate school.

We started our family late and spaced the births, but we have been married 44 years. It kind of feels like the year we threw out the diaper pail. I suddenly realized that our planned baby spacing had resulted in that diaper pail sitting in the bathroom for 10 years!
