Spring is getting closer

It feels like it is going to be an early spring. I have conflicting feelings about that. I am anxious for warm weather yet I know if spring comes too soon, cold temps can come back and damage everything. Still flowers are showing up here. Some daffodils are getting buds and the hellebore is about to bloom. We also have a couple of snowdrops.

Here are some iris. These are the first flowers to bloom in our garden.

Another daylily is blooming in the greenhouse. This is Positive Introspection.

It's sunny and in the 50's. Bob is out in the garden cleaning up the beds. I should be there too.

It was in the high 60's Tuesday, but that darned Oklahoma wind spoiled it with 35 mph winds. I have done a quick walk around to check on my daylilies and I see some green poking up where my dafs are......How nice to see some color coming up with your Iris. I always like the early spring Iris. I've got a few Dutch Iris planted that are sprouting.......Nice pattern on the daylily. Has pinched petals maybe?.............Maryl

Nice flowers Nancy.

My daffs have begun. I really like these a lot better than the plain yellow. My snowdrops are done.

Hellabores, had to force a couple to face up.

CB, These are totally awesome pictures. How much space do you have to grow all of these beauties? I would almost kill to have flowers like that. Here in Michigan we don't get anything like that. By the time I get them to bloom it's already fall. Did you really compost #7 after you grew it out? I would love to have a start to that one. Bill

It poured rain all day yesterday, we got just under 3" of rain. A tornado was spotted & the wind was really blowing. It seems like it has been snowing or raining all winter, yet our local weatherman is always saying we need more. I just don't see how :) I see deer around here all the time, but I've only seen possible deer damage once. I was weeding in the backyard one day, heard the dog barking, & a deer ran almost up to me. Guess she didn't see me there on the ground. The evergreen daylilies are looking greener & perking up. If you don't have signs of spring yet, it is on its way!

This one doesn't get much direct sun but is does get a lot of light. There were two Junes but the June on the right was moved as they filled in. The Hostalibrary says there is debate about whether there are two June sports being sold. I thought that for a while but I think June just changes so much depending on the season, light conditions and age of the plant. Check out Hank Zumach's June in the Hostalibrary. Hi Dave, You are correct, the oncidium came from Home Depot. I bought it after it finished blooming. I think I paid $7.00. The cattleya I bought about 4 years ago at the Fort Lauderdale Orchid Show. It has a fragrance that you wouldnt believe. As for the Penang Peach. The original plant only has a few leaves and isnt blooming. It bloomed like crazy last winter. Whats blooming now is a limb that broke off after a windy day in August last year. Take Care ! Randy in Savannah

Pretty daylily bloom, I like the color contrast. I was just thinking it will be nice to see Kay and Kate’s early daylilies and what is blooming in Nancy’s greenhouse!!!

No early blooms for me for awhile. My Going Bananas daylily is confused…..it has a big clump of new 3” tall foliage.

I agree with Sherry-really like the color combo on that bloom. We have broken records the past two days with temps in the low 80s. Things are popping out in bloom (not daylilies!) but I rhink I lost some azaleas to the Arctic blast we had. Daffodils have been gorgeous.

That Arctic blast really did a number on the roses. Dead canes all the way to the base. Also, some daffodils seem shorter and smaller than in previous years. Too early to evaluate fully since they are just starting.

Same here, Mantis, on several of my roses. I cut two large ones to the ground today but new growth is coming out on both. Nothing on two others.

My little miniature purple irises are in bloom this week too. And two different kinds of daffodils have started blooming.
