Can I ask what your wall color is? I'm making a mental list of terra cotta colors for my pocket office & yours looks nice.

For whatever reason, I'm seeing stripes that pull in the earthy rug colors but can stand up against that white. What about something like this?

Whatever pattern you get make sure it is a strong material that can stand heavy abuse and is stain resistant.

@avesmor- the color is BM Mayflower Red. Not sure why Red is in the name- It is a true terra cotta. I love it. Had it in my previous home as well.

I love the second fabric you suggested. Just concerned about the velvet on dining room chairs (with two children). NOt that we eat in there very often, but i can't imagine velvet is easy to clean.
I found a gorgeous fabric today, i can't seem to find it on=line and of course I didn't bring home a sample, because the price scared me away.
It was a Ralph Lauren Microsuede paisley print in earth tones. But it was $160/yard- I need 2 3/4. If i didn't expect it to get destroyed I might go for it, but i am nervous about that.
If anyone has luck finding it on-line, I would love to see it again!!!

avesmor, what is the stripe fabric in your top picture? I am looking for a stripe with rust, aqua/teal and brown.

Given the classical lines of your room, I could see a durable brocade in a neoclassic chair pattern in tones like this one, on eBay right now:

Another option is to buy a designer duvet or sheet set and cut it into sections, it would be an easy task. I'd try googling Ralph Lauren bed and see what you find.

I don't want to hijack the topic, but where did you get the tray (I don't quite know what to call it) under your candles? I've been looking for that sort of thing for ages!

I had dr chairs with a fabric similar to the pisa stripe and it was very scrubbable ,
I would just take a wet cloth to it and everything came out.

thanks for recommendations- I should mention I plan on re-finishing the set. While it is lovely, it is not my taste so I will probably have it stained darker wood tones.

@Leel- I bought that at Crate and Barrel last year. Not sure if they still have the same one anymore, b/c i got it on sale for I believe 18$.

The former may wear a bit better, although the color is very subtle compared to the latter. I'd be afraid that the latter's design is too large format for the chair seats?

At the risk of sounding like a shill (I'm a longtime GW member, promise!), do check out Fabricguru.com, they have great buys on remnants large enough to cover a number of chairs, and a separate "chair scale pattern" section. I've had great success with their fabrics.

As queen of boring, I can say this. :) I've played it safe for way too many years.

Your room is just lovely, but I think the right fabric would really take it to another level.

What do you think of any of these?

All of them have the terra-cotta color in them (although on the monitor some appear more orange but they are true terra=cota's). The blue background one is a light blue (it matches the blue in my rug exactly) but it looks more like a green blue on the monitor. I am curious to hear what you all think and after I get a few responses. I will let you know which one I like best.

I like the first three of this last series you posted! Probably the first and third ones are my favorites.

i think a patterned fabric would be much too busy, as it would compete against your patterned rug.
for the color, i'm seeing a deep, rich espresso brown fabric.
it would go beautifully with your table, against the white of the chairs, the color of your room, and your rug.
also, in event you want to change out your rug or repaint room, espresso brown is a color that adapts to many other styles, colors, and designs.
it is classic, timeless and very rich.

@gsciencechick- those are my favorites too.. The last one I saw as i was about to close up the book so i figured i would throw it in there.
@dogday- we are planning on re-finishing the table in that dark espresso color- it was inherited from my mother in law and while it is a lovely table as is, it is not my style.. so that color combo wouldn't work.
@terriks I don't see a name, but it is by COCO Allure Autumn Glow (is the collection i believe) and it has a color #453 Design A0146..I don't see any other info.

Gilly, of the last ones you posted, I personally like the last swatch the best. But I'm not much of a bold print person. I manage a quilt on my bed, and that's about it for me. :)

I looove Mayflower Red. Considered it for my front door. No wonder I liked your room! And totally get you on the kids + velvet. I have a 3 y/o, and want woven dining chairs but I really can't imagine getting crumbs or spills out of those nooks & crannies.

terriks - the pattern is Grandview Stripe. Color is Adobe. It's in their Secret Hideout book. It's still listed in their 2012 fabrics.

I think i have resorted to what I will do= I 'm going with a plain taupe(y) microfiber. I just don't think i would be happy with any kind of design- I was trying to break out of my plain-jane rut- but it's not happening in this room. I decided I would rather go with a window treatment than the cushions having a pattern. I definitely don't think i would be happy with both having any pattern in addition to the rug. I am heading back to the store tomorrow for the 3rd time this week to pick out my final fabric. Oh the dilemma--- thanks again for your insight!

Good call. A neutral fabric for the seat cover is best. Who knows what paint color you may have in the future?

Thanks! So now the question is.... what "solid" do i go with. I definitely don't want the creamy white that is on now.. I was thinking a taupe that i am pulling from the rug or a lighter tan. Remember I will be re-finishing the set in a rich espresso color. And I finally was able to convince my dh to sell the armoir down the road and possibly buy a longer but higher buffet. I don't love the look of showing off my "stuff" in the glass doors- and also think by removing the top it will make the room look bigger.

Final question- do you think fabric #1 or #3 in the last group would look ok as window treatments? I am waiting for my shades to be installed, but they are the silouhettes in the same white as the molding! TIA for your suggestions!

there's a fabric that the user avesmor submitted, that i think would look lovely on the chairs.
it is the terra cotta/brick red diamond pattern towards the top of the page.
for the drapes, i would then go with #3 (swirly, flocked terra cotta/off-white).
if going this route, the color of dining chairs and fabric would tie together.
i just did my dining room seats in a brick red diamond pattern.
the fabric went for $85/yd, and i got 3 yds for $16.51 including shipping. (can't resist my bargains. :D)
