I don't buy anything frozen at TJs or premade - I go there for inexpensive organic fresh vegetables and fruit, breads & tortillas, cold cuts and cheeses, and dried fruit and nuts. I buy chocolate there as well. I don't like their ice cream, and I don't like their mayonnaise, but those are the only two things that I prefer to buy elsewhere that I can think of. There are many things they do not have, such as grits and cornmeal, and I do not remember seeing frozen juices, but their bottled cranberry juice is the best and a great price. I think I got blueberry juice there also. I don't buy anything from the above list either. Lars

I live within driving distance of 4 TJ's and go to one about every week. I like to stop in and get a mini-cup of coffee and try whatever they are sampling. When we had our grocery employee strike a number of years ago, it was one of the few places we could shop without crossing a picket line. The staff is generally very friendly and helpful. Many of their prices are very reasonable (bread, peanut butter, milk). Some of the meat is higher than the grocery store, but it is better quality too. I would say only half of the produce is organic, and a lot of it is pre-packaged. Bread is well priced and a good variety. Cheese--imported is good but the stuff with their name on it isn't that good. Frozen veggies are good, especially that roasted corn. Cards are a buck and very nice; I like them better than any others because they are short and sweet. Oh, if you like peanuts, get the blister peanuts. Salads are inexpensive, easy to pick up for lunch and a wide variety. I'm not too crazy about their prepared foods (enchiladas, for example). Have fun, Glenda. I have never been in a TJ's that had several rows of frozen foods, and we have a few that aren't far from us. I don't think it's a big deal to access the crackers and cookies over the frozen foods. Unfortunately, I am able to easily grab the boxes of Jo-Jo's. ;) The parking lots are always small and awkward! I thought it was just around us because the stores are in urban locations, but I guess not? I think maybe we oversold the whole TJ's experience and you were disappointed, Oakley! I like it for certain things, but to me it's not the greatest store ever. I doubt that I'd go too far out of my way to shop there. Forgot to mention earlier that my kids used to love Nutrigrain bars, and TJ's has their own brand that are basically the same and so much cheaper. That's one of the items I've stocked up on there.

True, but like decent French Plonk, Chuck is remarkably palateable. It's blended from wine lake, which is why it's so cheap, and by blending and tweaking they can make it it taste good. Not like fine wine, but as a pleasing punch to wash down your sandwich. I use it for cooking unless there will vpbe a reduction. The kind of cooking which wrecks the wine anyway. But unpalatable wine wrecks the cooking, so Chuck works just as well as name cheap wines double or triple the price. Speaking of, however, it comes to mind that I've gotten phenominal bargains on quality French champagnes at Tj's.
