Well I'm a magpie too :) So I have both a mosaic (behind the range) and a subway tile, but I do have to compliment the fact that you went with a blue. I like it with the granite. A neutral would have been safer, and oh so boring :) By the way, we need to use the term DS...oh wait that's taken....(Dear Spouse dear son might get confusing) Or I like "SU" (spousal unit). My DH or SU as the case may be :) was told early in the design process that "I don't know" has a three day window to be turned into "I don't care" if he can't figure out what he wants :) Since I'm the designer...that's a challenge for him heh heh But he's one opinionated SU so normally he comes up with something :) He had definate influance on the backsplash. I was HORRIFIED with the cost, and he decided that it was the "only" one that worked LOL so my inner magpie won LOL

But then agin, I think I know all along it's a little too much for my kitchen. Caryscott & petra: Thanks for the picture petra, it says a thousand words. Is spectralight glass tiles? Prices are pretty reasonable. What about that milk green color? will it work? maybe with some garnet pieces sparingly mixed in. Mountain pearl or Santa cattier ( hard to read) on the paint cards : nice for cabinets as they are slightly invigorating with the drab counter tone but not too much Either. They provide some life. The bigger green swatches under your hand are green . Not good: the tone is awkward w the counter. I’d get a tile something like those lighter paint colors which I think should be your cabinet color. The grout could be a little dusky like the counter. You can insert a darker tile w something going w it behind the range If you want but I don’t see it . The counter has such a meandering feel to it: nothing more needed . Statement made. more important might be the floor in all this.

If you’re not worried about the wood counter then I’m honestly getting a wallpaper vibe. Something with a white background and a lot of negative space, maybe a large scale print. Not really busy, but whatever your taste is (floral, geometric, striped) and then look for a simplified version of it. I also like the idea of wide panel woodwork, vertical or horizontal, because I think it would contrast nicely with your tile. You can definitely do a tile backsplash but I think it’s a little more complicated on the vanity wall next to the shower because you have to choose more carefully. Since they are next to each other, there’s the consideration of how much of the wall you do in relationship to the shower, and then consider the other vanity. I think you can be more creative if you opt to do something different altogether. I’m not a huge fan of accent niches but honestly as far as they go it’s a good choice! A white wallpaper with some kind of fineline black print would look great with the tile and the wood. Something about lower tile back splashes right against a full tile wall is a little harder for me. I’m having a hard time with this one in one of my projects and I have found I generally like switching materials altogether instead of breaking up the wall. Also, i love bathrooms with little quirks and I have a feeling whatever mistakes you made you will still love this one in 20 years.
