Does anyone have the Ronco ST3001WHGEN Showtime Compact Rotisserie and Barbeque Oven? If so, do you like it?

I haven't checked the product numbers on mine to be sure it's exactly the same, but I do have a Ronco Showtime Rotisserie.

I absolutely LOVE it for roasting whole chickens. They come out juicy, tender, perfect! And, you don't need to baste unless you're using a sauce, of course, which I don't. I just season the chicken with granulated garlic & onion, paprika, celery salt and pepper and tuck the extra chicken fat or some herb butter under the breast skin. It has become one of our favorite no-fuss meals. Plus, I put it out on the patio while it's baking so it doesn't heat up the kitchen during the hot Summer months. I always made a pretty darn good roast chicken, but something about cooking it on the rotisserie just can't be beat.

I haven't tried it for much other than the whole chicken, though. I did try some chicken pieces once, in the basket thingy, but they cooked too fast for the skin to be really nice as there isn't a temp-adjust.

I have been meaning to do a pork roast and see how that works out.

My basic review is that its worth having just for the chickens, if you've room to comfortably store it. If you're space-challenged, there might be other small, multi-purpose appliances that could better take up shelf room. But, boy oh boy, I'd hate to give up my rotisserie chickens!

I make a lot of pasta with marinara, ragu bolognese, pesto etc. We just finished having a broccoli, bacon, onion and gruyere quiche for dinner that makes regular appearances around here. Another favorite is stir fry, I make that once a week or so. I also bbq throughout the year because our weather here is relatively mild. Other than that, tacos, nachos, salads, soups, stews and pot pies get made often around here depending on the weather. Based on the frequency of its appearance in this thread, I'm going to have to work on my roasted chicken method. When I tried Ann's high heat method the results were wonderful, but I spent more time cleaning the oven than I did cooking the bird. Note to self, when remodeling the kitchen get a self cleaning oven! :)

I was born in 1944 and I can just barely remember things like ration stamps and smushing a bag of white stuff and a bright yellow lump until it became margarine. We creamed coffee with canned evaporated milk--yuck! We ate Spam, and I will never again, for any reason, eat Spam. Portions were small. Four people ate a pound of ground meat made into "chopped steak" patties. We always had cheap bread and mashed potatoes. I used to gag on mashed potatoes until I went away to college and the food was so bad I was forced to learn to tolerate them. One can of vegetables fed the four of us. Hot dogs and beans were a frequent meal. I found beans a little more tolerable than mashed potatoes. By the time I was in high school all the bills had finally been paid off and we began to eat nicer food and larger portions. I am left with some quirky taboos regarding food because for so many years I was forced to eat foods that I absolutely hated. I will NEVER eat breakfast for supper, canned Dinty Moore Stew (something my mother fed us if my father didn't come home for supper) or Spam. I never had to eat reheated steak or lamb because we never had any left over. Both were special treats once they became affordable. I didn't encounter a lot of reheated leftovers until I began to eat my mother-in-law's cooking. They had been even poorer than my folks and nothing was ever wasted, even after they could afford to eat better. I never had access to a freezer in which to freeze extra portions until I was married. My ex would eat anything and everything he could get his hands on so I didn't have to eat anything I didn't enjoy. I do enjoy some foods reheated--home made beef or chicken soup, spaghetti sauce, chili, stuffed peppers or cabbage, lasagna, stew/Stroganof and tomato based casseroles. Once my kids (and all their friends) moved away, and my ex was long gone, I found myself stuck with left over food that I don't like reheated or frozen and reheated. When microwaves came out and I bought my first one, I was excited to reheat meat that was left over. I believed that if I bought a steak or prime rib in a nice restaurant I could now reheat leftovers and they would taste great. What a sad disappointment it was when I warmed up a beautiful piece of prime rib and took my first bite when it came out of the microwave!!!! Over the years I have tried various recipes and suggested methods to use left over meat and nothing I have tried has been acceptable. Calling myself picky makes me sound like a very difficult person. Maybe I should say I have super sensitive taste buds? No matter how I refer to my odd preferences, I have never learned to like certain reheated foods. If I were again so poor that I absolutely couldn't allow any food to go to waste I would force myself to eat it. However, I cook for only myself and choose to eat only tasty (to me) foods. If I do order a fabulous prime rib in a restaurant I order the smallest cut on the menu and yes, the dogs get the leftover meat. I have another issue to complicate my cooking for one and that is that many years ago I had a primitive form of today's gastric surgery to restrict how much I eat at one time. I can't possibly eat more than 2.5 to 3 ounces of any meat at one sitting. I guess I am not even cooking for one--I should call it cooking for half an adult. I appreciate all the information offered in your responses and have found some ideas I will try. I can make nice gravy if I have drippings but I don't know what to do for a baked chop or piece of chicken. I can make a roux, but I don't do well creating enough flavor without drippings. I also plan to buy a really good toaster/convection oven so I don't feel guilty about heating a big oven for one small serving. I will get one that allows rotisserie cooking and hold off on an earlier decision to buy a Ronco rotisserie.

I grew up on a dairy farm and that was operated in the same manner as the Amish do today. Grandmother had an 8ft long coal stove in the kitchen and our idea of running water was whenever one of us boys entered the kitchen Grandma would hand us a 5gal pail and say, "Run out to the spring and get me some water." The next boy in the room got handed the coal bucket to fill, and the next boy had to take a couple 5gal buckets of vegetable timmings out to the hog lot and more often than not during the canning season one of the younger boys got detailed to stay at the house and assist Grandma in the kitchen. As a consequence I began learning how to cook when I was about 5 or 6 years old, and I don't regret a minute of that time. Dissassters? Wow, I could write a book about dissassters I have made in the kitchen but one will always stick out in my mind. At about 13yrs old my cousin & I got the silly idea to make some home made rootbeer. (In those days you could buy Hires Rootbeer Syrup in a tube like a huge toothpaste tube in the spice section of any grocery store for about $1). My cousin and I spent about 3 weeks rounding up empty soda bottles & washing them out, all the while saving our allowance money to get the rootbeer syrup. We finally had enough bottles washed out, got the syrup, set up the bottle capper and commenced to mixing our brew in a huge 5gal crock. First you add the water, then the syrup, then sugar and finally a cube of flieshmans yeast, mix it all up and let it set about 24 hours then you bottle it and let it age 14 days to make the fizz. When it was all done my cousin and I each took a bottle from the basment up to the kitchen to get a bottle opener. I snapped the opener on the bottle cap, started to lift it and WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM, the lid flew off and the rootbeer spurted up out of that bottle so high it hit the ceiling. Talk about a mess...LOL...My cousin tried opening his with exactly the same result. What went wrong we wondered? Then we got to recounting our mixing procedures. It seems that my cousin had not seen me put the yeast in, so without saying a word, he put another cake of yeast in. But as is true of teenagers everywhere, we weren't gonna let a little thing like atomic fizz prevent us from drinking our rootbeer. We just put a dishpan in the sink, then one of us would carefully open the bottle while the other one held a pot upside down over the bottle to catch the spray and let it go into the dishpan, which we then poured in our glasses and enjoyed out rootbeer, even though it did have a rather strong yeasty taste..LOL

I can't even watch a lot of regular cooking shows anymore. Almost all women cooks have their hair falling over their shoulders and almost into the food.. We were taught in high school cooking classes to use a net or at least tie it back.

We also have a Showtime Ronco Rotisserie, and are pleased with its performance. We use it mainly for roasted
chicken.

The chicken we make with the Ronco R. comes out much
better, tastier and cheaper than buying one from the
super market's rotisserie dept.

I know I could do a lot more with it other than chicken. One of these days I will atempt to use it for ribs.

Mudlady: I am so bad with recipes, and directions but here it goes, I use a boneless pork shoulder roast not a pork tenderloin so there is more fat and "dark" meat. What I do is unroll it best I can and then try to butterfly it, keeping it in one piece, so its pretty even. Into my food processor I put garlic, rosemary, shallots, parsley, basil, salt, mustard, olive oil, and/or whatever spices strike my fancy that day, process it into a thin paste, slather the whole roast, both sides, and on the inside of it I sprinkle a bit of breadcrumbs, and sometimes nuts, and or dried cranberries, reroll it and tie it all up. Set it and forget it! Well not really forget it! Then I let it rest before carving. Now I am craving pork roast!

Well, I finally did a pork shoulder roast, and it was yumalicious! Just a simple dry rub of garlic & onion powders, celery salt, pepper, paprika & oregano. The time table said 30 minutes per pound, but it took a little longer than that, probably because I rubbed the roast this morning and took it out of the fridge to get going when I got home from work, so it was still cold.

I made a very simple sauce to serve with it. Sauteed some garlic in some of the drippings, added chicken stock, white wine, some apricot jam & cornstarch. Not enough jam to make it icky sweet, though.

Very moist, tender, flavorful and EASY (not to mention how inexpensive pork shoulder is!) My husband and I both decided this one is going to be a regular.

Hi everyone, Not sure which version I had, but it was a gift from my sil. I did wear out mine doing chicken, ribs, and I tried a turkey once, the turkey was arkwardly positioned and I didn't want to make more holes in the meat using the steel rods. My Set&Forget was ran into the ground (doing chicken, ribs and cornish hens) literally, I broke the lil piece that helps slide the door in place, but I still used it until I replaced mine with a George Forman version that does the same exact thing and only cost me $49.00 on sale. It was worth the investment again!!

Helpful tips, those that run out of the elastic bands (rubberband) (unit comes with some) to truss the chicken can use kitchen twine to tie those birds up, also a lil tin foil on the back sleeve and bottom tray help with the clean up. hth, A~
