Tile Problem- Cross Post from bathrooms

Sorry. I know this is kitchens. But we need to order on Mondayish or at least make some kind of decision so I'm cross posting over here b/c I don't know how much traffic the bathrooms forum gets and we need to figure something out soon.

here is the issue:

We had picked out our tile for the master bathroom and now we have a major problem b/c there is no bullnose piece made by our tile maker. We need a bullnose for the tub steps, shower curb, etc. Our tile person has suggested that we use a grey glass bullnose piece and basically have a 2 inch piece of grey on the edges of the steps, as our shower curb, and on the corners. I do not think this is the right solution. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am willing to go to a different tile entirely (w/ a company that makes a bullnose!) but I need to find one in blue that is affordable. If I can't, what would you do about this lack of bullnose issue? Would you use the grey? Or any other suggestions would be welcome.

If anyone has any ideas, please share. What would you do, would you let the grey be used? Would you switch the whole thing? Anyone have any pictures of anything like this where a mismatched bullnose piece was used?

Your field tile choice looks alot like one I considered by Crossville. I like the glass tile on the step fronts and as an accent. I think it gives a little "bling" and breaks it up in a good way. I wonder about the pebbles for the shower floor. That's another thing I was going to do but decided not too for a few reasons. First, my master bath seems about 1/3 the size of yours and I don't think too many different materials would work in a tiny bathroom. Also, I was concerned about the amount of grout that's visible with pebble/stone tiles. The spaces between them are bigger and I hate cleaning grout in a shower.

Anyway... I like the glass!

Thanks remodelfa :) Do you think it is going to be too much w/ the pebbles? I am also planning on using pebble hardware as the cabinet hardware too. Our master bathroom is gigantic so I hope all the elements will work together... I am not concerned about cleaning but I am concerned about it being too busy! Which is exactly why I don't want yet another tile! What do you think?

And, more importantly, did you end up doing the crossville tile? Did it have an edge? Do you remember the name of it?

Its all in the layout. You have to define the points of interest that are most obvious or most important to you and go from there. You can't always please every conceivable situation. If moving the accent up gives you bigger pieces and doesn't harm some other area, then move it up.

We worked with a designer at Home Depot when designing our new homes kitchen. We could have walked away at any time without purchasing from them. It's a free service they provide in hopes you'll buy your cabinets from them. We never talked flooring or anything else with them, but I'm sure that either of the designers, still there after seven plus years, would have been happy to help us. I talked to one of them about a week ago asking if they'd help us in designing the fireplace surround. He was busy at the time with another customer and had an appointment next, but said he'd be happy to help us. Granted he knows us, but I've stopped and talked to the designers at other HoDes and Lowe's with the same kind of helpfulness. They've all been more than happy to even just give price quotes on a cabinet piece I found online at the Kraftmaid Design site I belong too. The only problem with someone designing your bathroom layout here at the GW is that you'd have to find the same sized shower/tubs, vanities etc... when you went shopping. Where-as at HoDe or Lowe's they have the specs for loads of items you can purchase from them and I'm sure would be will to work around specs you gave them from other sources as they would if you were only replacing certain items in an existing bathroom. Personally I'd try them first because of that unless you already have specs of items you'll be adding to your bathroom and just need help seeing if they'll fit your space.

Everyone, thank you again for reminding me to do two connections for the radiant heat and how wonderful it will be on my cold feet as I have a home office and throughout the cold NJ Winters, I am sitting at my desk with my feet getting cold. I also feel the cold coming up through the wood with the rooms not as warm as when I have those beige wall to wall carpets that were always dirty that I steamed cleaned twice a month. Thank you Carriem25 for letting me know that you have radiant heat throughout your home and feel it was one of your best choices that you made when you built your home.

If it ain't broke and you don't need the latest style I'd just put it back. The valves and flappers fail in all toilets over time, there's no reason to replace the whole thing to repair those problems. If you needed to go to a lower flow, or had one of the '90's toilets that never actually worked that would be a different story. All that said, I'm very impressed with the new Toto's we put in our house. Not very expensive, work perfectly, refill quickly and quietly.

The pebbles are cool and feel good underfoot.

I wouldn't use a mismatched bullnose - I'd find another blue field tile that has bullnoses available.

Sorry I can't point you toward another manufacturer, but a well stocked tile shop should have something.

We haven't done the bathroom yet. I'm trying to do it as cheaply as possible since it's part of a whole house remodel and the kitchen it taking all my money. The Crossville tile was part of one of the Color Blox collection (can't remember if it was I or II) and the color was called "It's a Boy".

I just looked on fastfloors.com and it does have bullnose and cove base

Thanks remodelfa. I will send it to DF to see what he thinks. It looks very similar to ours in the picture.
