How and where to stop paint color?

I would like to paint my dining room walls EK Taupe. I am painting a white box with taupe on one side and EK Bronze on the other side to test the colors. So far the taupe will be superb in this tiled house.

My question is this - how could I stop the taupe paint between kitchen and dining rooms which share one long wall? There is a half wall with a plain column between the two rooms. How have any of you dealt with this situation? If I paint the half wall and column EK Bronze could I paint a thick Bronze stripe (same thickness as the half wall) on the shared wall between the EK Taupe of the dining room and the off white of the kitchen? I could paint the kitchen too but I like the way the white wall works with the art pieces in the kitchen plus my art light has a white cord which is not very visible on the white wall.

Thanks
