Making progress on LR (pics!)

I've made some progress in refurnishing my LR (thanks Palimpsest and deeinohio!) that I will be able to actually see, feel, touch, sit in. Palimpsest made suggestions that would coordinate with the Hollywood Regency vibe lamps I want to keep and use:

my Art Deco-inspired console:

Here are the sofas I located to go see:

Pal's suggestion which has beautiful lines

A similar one with arms a little higher and loose pillow back (hoping they have an alternate model with tight back)

The curtains in this material will stay

and I would use this Ikat material in pillows and to reupholster one of these pairs of chairs I can get on ebay

or I can get a pair of these new R&B chairs which would already be upholstered in a green fabric

So which items get thumbs down and which get thumbs up?

I think you're doing great! I love the lines of the striped ebay chairs, but how expensive is shipping and reupholstering going to add to the price? It may be more cost effective to go new, but, oh, the slope of those arms..love them.

I really love the sofa, the side tables, the coffee tablesf, and the ikat fabric. I'm not sure about the black side chest. I like it; I just wonder if it will compete too much with your console. Hopefully, Palimpsest will chime in.

Your room is going to be fantastic! I can't wait until you get it done.

All the lines are working together and the style is consistent. I would probably select the ebay chairs with the black leg. I love the rb chair but it looks better suited as an accent chair rather than a side chair.

Red - I haven't gotten anywhere on the baskets scenario yet! In fact - I'm embarassed to admit it but I actually forgot about them. I should probably order my Tea Stain swatch this wk. I think that it will look really nice w/ all of the new colors. I'm also embarassed to admit that I am repainting the LR in BM Strathmore Manor tom. - already have my gallon and supplies! It's very close to the current BT but more on the brown side. I'm moving the green curtains to the kitchen (which I am painting black - crazy - I know - but you'll see eventually). I finished painting the office BM Jonesboro Cream yesterday and the center hall BM Porcelain Ivory and the ceiling SW Caviar (black) 2 wknds ago. Saturday when someone bought the green velvet RH pillow covers out from under me on E-bay, I went to RH and ended up getting a bunch of pillow covers in the Sand and Lava colorways. Looks really, really nice. I just wish I were able to afford some of the silk curtains in the cream/ sand line because they look so good w/ all of the colors. All of the colors together almost looks like a warm sepia toned picture. Pics to follow in a few days or so!

I think if your family room color was the same as the breakfast room, it would work better if you want a gray/blue. You can still do a blue with the fr color nearby, but I'd avoid a blue that is very gray. The fr color reads more tan/warm.

I'm waaay late to this party AND my taste is not what one would call *mainstream*. With that proviso and the understanding that what follows is of course MHO and is not at all meant to offend anyone, I: Think the chair and sofa in the Tomato are FABULOUS. I am pleased the upholstery guy darkened the wood as it needs the depth of color to carry that scrumptious color. Think the FC is a totally unique neat piece of furniture which needs to be fixed 'proper like'. I cannot see this detracting from its value but in fact adding to it providing it's done correctly and not some hatchet job. Think also the FC is SO unique it needs a bold *here I am* fabric, not some whimpy paisley kinda fabric. The fabric Sujafr posted would be super. If your concern is to it's hardiness if you will, then try to find something tougher but very similar. That wonderful Tomato insists on something equally bold and beautiful to compete with it. Think I'd like to see your dining room as it appears from your floor plan drawing the living is open to that room - yes? The FP remarks you have laminate in the DR. Whatever the flooring material in the DR - you need to continue same material into the LR and all the way down the hall. Alternatively, you rip up the DR flooring and replace the whole 9 yards. You'll need to find a area rug/carpet that will co-ordinate the whole (both LR + DR) and if you've a window in the DR, then you'll need the same or very similar WT's on both windows. If they are open to each other as it appears they are, they can't be treated as separate entities without totally chopping up your spaces. Think the stripes definitely need to go with all painted a background color. What that might be should be a decision delayed until after the FC has a chosen fabric. Think the FP also needs to be redone - something very background not *here I am* so it's a good thing that's easy peasy for ya. :-)) Again not done/chosen until after the main furniture pieces are completed. If you were fortunate enuf to find a neat mirror piece as ?? came up with, then likely it should be the star and the FP itself should be very similar to or the same as the wall color - whatever that ends up being. WT's should be pretty much last on the list although they will need to co-ord with your wall color. Being as I am, I wouldn't even consider that item until all the other pieces were pretty clear to me AND the FC was recovered and back home. Think coffee table definitely needs the deeper stain but you seem quite willing to do so and certainly have the talent so really that is a non-issue. Think I'd like to see the (fully repaired) wonderful FC in front of the window also, particularly once it has a dramatic punchy fabric on it. It really is a *star piece* and should be the first thing one sees when entering the room. Think I'd like to see the wood on the half wall stained darker with Tomato Sofa against that wall. Well I've said enuf -- likely you're thinking *more than*. BG's I absolutely LUV LUV that Tomato fabric! On our gloomy (and presently extremely windy here) PNW days, that color is going to be soooo warm and friendly/cozy. I will suggest that you don't have a Victorian home so use this yummy unique furniture as a bold statement rather than an attempt at truly period stuff. I don't often weigh in on threads because my taste is surely not everyone's so pay me no mind at all if it doesn't suit you. :-)) Happy Xmas Holly

I really like the ebay chairs with the black leg--I think its what the Room and Board chairs are influenced by...but better:)

I love it! Your lamps are fabulous. I REALLY love the second coffee table, the less ornate one, that you have shown on the plan. I think I like the Chloe chairs best. I don't think the shape of the armchairs (blue) on ebay goes as well with the couches and other elements in the room. I like the way the striped ebay chairs side echoes the couch arms, but not sure about the legs...

The second table is from the Horchow Collection website:

Its $999 + 200 addl delivery.

Actually the curvier mirror-topped one is too, its $1399 + $75 addl handling and delivery

Can't wait to see it pulled together! I like the tufted chairs the best--they'd add a lot, IMHO.

Love your selections.

If you know the names of the manufacturer of your tables, you may be able to find them for less on-line. Horchow had our mirrored buffet for more $$ than we paid for it after we did our search.

Did the sofa come from there also?

jerseygirl - Palimpset found the sofa in my plan at Room and Board (Loring sofa) by McCreary Modern. The other one with pillow back I found at a local modern furniture store (www.decorumfurniture.com). They didn't have it with a tight back so I didn't inquire further about who makes it. I am currently on the trail of sofas that look like the Loring but are made with 8-way hand-tied coil springs. Iam getting "close"!

sinshil-Again, another Pal find from Horchow. IsnÃ¯Â¿Â½t it gorgeous? It is just too low for me as an end table I think, but using 2 in front of the sofa would be wonderful.

Making a trip to 2 high end consignment shops in Williamsburg, VA this weekend. They get customers who move to that Colonial mecca and need to trade in their more modern furniture for the "Williamsburg" look. I can let them know what I'm looking for and they'll "catalog" it for me. Sounds hopeful at 50 cents on the dollar!

Lee Industries has a similar sofa that's 8-Way Hand Tied: 3076-03. There's feedback on lee industries in the furniture forum and recommendations on where to order from.

backsweat - I remember reading about Lee Industries in other forum posts. Thank you for the reminder! I also found another NC manufacturer, Wesley Hall, who does 8-way hand tied and they have several styles that are similar. I'm told both companies will change the sofa length, back and arm styles. I have a furniture shopping trip planned with GFs in 2 weeks to a town full of discount furniture stores carrying these brands. I really hope one of them has a similar style on the floor so I can get a better idea of how they "fit" and feel. I'm trying to be rational and wait until I get the sofa before deciding on other pieces. BUT I really want Klismos-styled chairs! At least I have a Room and Board not too far away so I could go try out the Chloe chair palimsest pictured.

Can't wait to see it done. I am currently helping my neighbor redecorate her bedroom in the Hollywood regency style. Love the look.
