2 leather chairs too much?

Hi everyone - I'm in the process of deciding on new living room furniture. Previously you wise people agreed with DH that I should get 2 chairs and a loveseat vs. 2 loveseats facing each other. I agree it will give us a lot more versatility in the seating arrangements. The room is small. I'm about to order 2 leather club chairs and have an upholstered loveseat. I'm wondering if 2 leather chairs is too much or would that look best? TIA!

I think 2 leather chairs would be fine, but in reality it is more about the size of the chairs and perhaps the color, rather than just that they are leather.

Well if two leather chairs are too much, then I'm in trouble! :-)

We have a fabric upholstered sofa and another fabric chair in the same room (family room).

Well, I see the bench is gone, I agree with the poster who mentioned it looked like dual coffee tables. Plus your DH thinks he won, so how bad can that be? LOL You need more lighting, so perhaps a floor lamp behind the center corner of the sectional, or at least a lamp on the cabinet behind it. I don't like the queen anne table in here, but I believe it has since moved into the LR. The small table is kinda cool, but I would move it out away from the end of the couch a bit, so it stands as an interesting piece and will feel more important. I think your rug needs to be turned the other direction - It will flow better with the space. I would think about sliding the tv and cabinet over to the right, and you would have room for another chair there; perhaps one of the extra yellow ones from the LR? The other one could go in the corner between the kitchen and family room, where the little cabinet is in the pix, that has now gone to the LR as well. Your fireplace is cool, and if the pix is telling the true story, the right half of the fireplace sticks out further than the left. I would do some kind of paint treatment to accentuate that. Perhaps paint the right side that sticks out, above the hearth to the ceiling, in a deeper shade of the wall color. Then pull a red from the rug and do the receding part of the fireplace in that color, as well as the brick under the hearth. Paint the hearth ledge the deep brown of your couches. Try the sunburst mirror over the firebox itself. Take down the other art, and let the colors be the art. You could add a long, low rectangular planter on the right side of the fireplace, filled with sgrasses, reeds, etc. or bamboo with a layer of river rock covering the soil (if you use real plants) or the foam (if you use dried or faux.

Thanks for the responses. I really like the idea of the beige chairs and washed out red cushions. I do want something comfortable so that the room will get used. I just found some red and white floral chairs on CL that I like. Great price too. You guys are swaying me away from the red, but these look perfect otherwise. Doubt I'd be able to get them before someone else snatches them up anyhow... maybe a good thing. The CL slipcovered sofa was just $50. and it's the custom made seperate pieces not the big sure-fit thing - so I was really pleased. It'll be a while before I can post any pictures. They are just putting in windows and the door today. More ideas welcome!

I saved the photo and enlarged it. I'm on my laptop which doesn't have the greatest monitor, but you may want to refinish the legs, as I see a few nicks in them. I also THINK I see some slight staining on the right arm and the front edge of the seat, and the upper right back, but it may be the lighting in the photo. How does the seller describe it in the ad? Ready to use? I've bought many CL chairs, but I buy them with the intent to re-do them. Do you want to use this AS IS? It seems pricey to me, but the style is not common to find on my Maine CL.

I love the table and the chairs. hate everything else. (hate is strong...lets just say the rest of the room is doing you no favors). you need a proper chandelier, not one pendant light. the warm toned plates just do not work. your buffet is too small and the mirror doesn't belong in there. (a larger art piece on canvas would be better) and those shelves......no. you need a proper sized rug, although I do like the hide. perhaps you could double it on top of another. here are some visuals to help you see what we all mean. similar size to what you have. notice the rug and the walls and the light proper mirror over a buffet. it all works w/the table and these chairs. notice the rug size look at the buffet and the artwork over it. this is what you need. if you use the blue chairs, then bring in something that plays w/the blues. like this pic. and if you did a bright white wainscot and navy upper, bring in a white buffet and some nice artwork, maybe a touch of pink accenting,,,,gorgeous other blue accents large chairs, beautiful light, notice the rug fits the table. size-wise, your buffet should be the size of the one in this pic. Notice the great light over the table.

Well, the chairs are (I think) small in scale - 34" wide (Hancock & Moore Studio chair)and the color will be mid-dark brown (we have 2 kids and a dog, so). Does this change anything?

I think that 2 leather chairs paired with an upholstered couch is definitely not too much leather. It seems to me that it would be a very balanced arrangement.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of them - I don't know how to post links in this site (I've only recent;y been able to post a photo!) I do know it's Style # 4261. I read up on them here and in Furniture and I'm very excited for them!

coleen ... just curious ... did you see the chairs irl & sit in them? ... are you ordering them through a local furniture store?

we have been looking for small-scaled leather recliners ... if such an animal even exists!

we haven't run across hancock & moore; but if they are a high-quality outfit, we will definitely try to find them (chgo. suburbs)

coleen: May I just say how much I LOVE these chairs??? The size of the chairs is not too large at all, imo. I think the layout will be beautiful.

Thanks for the picture, organic smallhome! phyl - The store I went to did not have these particular chairs, but I sat in ones with the same dimensions and every one of them were VERY comfortable. They make so many models that I think it's pretty hard to find the exact one you're looking for.

thanks for the answer coleen ... it sounds like you ordered from a local furniture store (?) ... does anybody know if hancock & moore is a national company?

i googled them; but didn't come up with any locations ... but i am not exactly computer savvy, so i probably just didn't know how (grin)

I would try calling some of the better furniture stores in your area, I'm sure there are tons!- also on the website it has a "Contact Us" section where you can request a dealer in your area. Or there's probably people here who are from your area and will hopfully chime in.
