What is too much space between kitchen Island and counters?
Comments (11)dawnk, you were right. Thank you! I just went to the house to map everything out and confirmed this. hollysprings - I am ok with the 39.5 inches between the sink counter and the island. My main concern was the other side. You were also right about the pinch point between the fridge and the island. That measures to be 39" and we are ok with that. GauchoGordo1993 - the fridge landing is something. It is a french door refrigerator and it is a monster. After playing around with the design a lot we could not find a better spot for it. We currently have no refrigerator landing so this will be a step up for us. Thank you everyone for all your help!...See MoreToo much space above microwave ?
Comments (23)Putting it on a platform to center it vertically would probably be fine. Stick a phone book under it and see if it works before you commit. A strip of trim painted to match (is it paint?) with a matching routed edge on the bottom could be stuck in, behind the frame, to fill the gap without being to noticeable. Maybe. Being recessed, a perfect match might not be absolutely required. If doors are available, I'd get a single door (or if it looks better, two attached together to act as a single) and hinge it on TOP with gas springs. You don't want kids reaching over one hinged on the bottom. To be honest, I'd prefer it because I don't like how the corners of the frame are done--just a pet peeve of mine but I don't like the roundy cove. :P...See MoreThere's too much open wall space above the garage
Comments (4)I like the idea of adding an Arbor over the 2 car garage, and then it looks like a 3rd off to the right. This would be one of the least expensive options, but adds so much style, fills the space and add a little craftsmanship to the home....See Morehelp with fireplace too much space under
Comments (1)Paint the brass with heat resistant black paint. I've done this with a previous fireplace and it's super easy and holds up really well. I'd replace the mantel with something completely different. Something wider that extends almost to both ends of the brick. Maybe a rustic wood beam. For the bottom, I think you've got a few options. One is do nothing and see if the above two changes make a difference. You could try replacing the tile with something that ties into the brick better. Or you could try find brick that matches and build up a raised hearth. I don't know that those 4 squares are on either side. If those are used for venting purposes, then bricking those up with a raised hearth wouldn't work....See MoreJ Kay
