Can you have too much wood?
Comments (9)What color stain have you selected? The thing to do is leave the T&G natural or not as dark as the beams....If you darken everything, it will be too dark. Also, go for lighter wall colors. Our house is almost as your described yours, but our kitchen, breakfast, sunroom, pantry, powder and laundry have travertine flooring instead of wood. Our great room peaks at 22ft, but no T&G ceiling...which we did do on our verandas. MBR is also cathedral, no T&G. Housewitch has a home like you are describing. You could try searching her name. Picture showing hardwood, travertine, beams and window/door trim. Please do not post pictures or link elsewhere. TIA. Good luck with your project! Comments (17)I truly appreciate all of the insight and suggestions here! This is such a great forum! I have no idea about the accents. I think with the exception of the art over the mantle I will be starting from scratch. So I'm going to try to look at it with fresh eyes. I was thinking of woven woods on the windows. I'm been envisioning that for some time. We have recessed lights as well as the sconces and eyeballs (2) and there is a table lamp to the right. There is just not a lot of natural light in the room. I could use some more light, I agree, but I have been trying to get an electrician to come to add some outlets and they don't come back (even the ones who did MAJOR work on our kitchen renovation - but that's another post!) That love seat will work great in the office, but it's too small and not cozy. Also, I think the whole room may be a little too "gold". Thanks for the compliments about the artwork! It's our first "real" art and we agonized over it. We really love it. Rosemary - good luck shopping. You have a huge space there - I'm envious of all your possibilities! Comments (89)So many people with issues with parents...sad. I was loved, I had toys and gifts, dresses, dolls, books, sport stuff, games,I lacked for nothing . But as I got older, I think I tried to "recapture" my childhood. As an adult, I loved antique shows, flea markets, garage sales. Any time I saw something we had in our house growing up, I had to buy it. I even bought too many rose bushes and planted them in my garden, trying to re-create my Grandma's rose garden. I now have a linen closet stacked with doilies and tablecloths I'll never use, sets of fancy glasses too fragile to use, things like that. Oh, and on the funny side, my daughter cleaned out my bathroom just yesterday. She found eleven bottles of Listerine. I don't know, I hate the stuff, it burns... I remember buying one bottle because it did everything, whitens teeth, freshens breath, makes gums healthy, strengthens the enamel. I'm just always looking for something to make me happy....See MoreCan you have too much Infinity White quartzite in a kitchen?
Comments (12)A few thoughts (from a non pro)… all quartzite would look lovely. If not the best. I really do NOT like the look of the contrast wood counters above. To me, they look like aidfferent kitchen got accidentally dropped in…. I too am concerned about the size of the bar. And what is the purpose? Does it have extra stoarge below that you need? It doesnt look that way in the pics but hard to tell. If no extra storage, then I would just scrap the bar and have the countertop be deeper on the penninsula so you can have stools. But be the full length of the penninsula. And horror or horror, what if for the 15 inch countertop overhang, you curved the corner so as to take pressure off the pinch point? i know this forum generally hates curved counter edges, as they are features in a lot of dated houses. But sometimes they serve a purpose and Ive seen them used to good effect a few times on here. I think the risk of datedness is low if (as it sounds) your kitchen is otherwise fairly contemporary and clean lines. also worth adding, my kitchen (which we inhereited when we bought the house) has a 32 inch aisle between the island and the main run!!!! So 32 inches in front of the range, the DW and the sink. It is bananas in a kitchen that otherwise is not that small. Having two people cooking in there is unbearable. But its not so tight that walking is a problem (for reasonable sized people). Im also not sure why, if your current situation is tolerable, adding 15 or 30 inches would make it that much worse....See Morethreedgrad
