Need to paint kitchen table; color advice please

We've just installed a banquette in the kitchen as part of a redesign of the eating area (there was a round table that you walked right into when you walked in the door). A few months ago I purchased a slightly damaged Camden trestle table from the Restoration Hardware outlet at an insane discount. I love the table, but the color won't do (I sort of figured that when I bought it). In a perfect world the table would be sort of an old barn table/driftwood color, but that is not going to happen because paint is the order of the day and while I am a pretty good painter, I'm not a faux finisher miracle worker.

I'm thinking off white both because it will work in the kitchen (I think) and because I don't want to get real trendy here.

Here are a couple pictures (I had one that was in much better focus but accidentally uploaded the wrong one so I apologize for the fuzziness):

Pay no attention to all the green tape on the table ... it's marking various options for where to cut it (yes, I'm cutting a brand new (damaged) table ... don't ask).

The rest of the kitchen:

For color reference, the banquette is painted in Benjamin Moore Cotton Balls, and the cabinets (which are close to that now) will be at some point as well. The floor is Mohawk Sardara Island Brown. The walls are BORING and will be painted once this is all over (color TBD, but I'm leaning toward BM Revere Pewter.)

The banquette will have seat cushions and throw pillows in "wasabi" green (halfway between olive and grass) and aqua/blue .

The chair is from our old kitchen table, so you can see what used to be in that space (distressed creamy white) and I am going to re-use the chairs with the table.

Sorry for all the background here. Anyway, here's the real question: presuming I go with an off-white color for the table, should I stick with the Cotton Balls color that is already throughout the kitchen or go a few shades creamier? If that option is totally distasteful to you ... any other suggestions?

when you say a 'few shades creamier' do you mean darker? If you mean than then id say that would look nice and if you plan to keep the chairs then I would go darker than the chairs on the table.The subtle contrasts will look better so you don't have it look like you tried to match it all. Make sure whomever paints the table really really preps it well. Funny, I never heard the term banquette? Do you mean the island? Revere pewter is a very pretty color and does have a slight green to it. I almost did it in my halls but am going to do pale oak, which is a more putty color. Good luck with all

Thanks for the input oopsie. Yes, I guess I was thinking a tad darker ... you're probably right ... don't be so matchy matchy. Would save me from having to worry about painting the chairs too.

The banquette is the bench thing around the table. I think a proper banquette has a back on it, so that probably isn't the right term but that's what I've been calling it!

Don't do anything if you're having someone paint them. And having them professionally painted will be in the 3-5K range. are you aware of that? do not have any house painter do them. the prep on these cabinets need to be done by the book or your paint will peel and chip within a few months. so please, hire a PRO cabinet painter and ask him what his prep steps are. I like BM White Dove for your cabinets. it will go beautifully w/the tile. and a pale blue wall is a good idea. this one is BM Solitude or BM Pashmina

SW 7028 incredible white. It’s a soothing white - I didn’t want stark. I went against designer idea to match the crown molding / trim to cabinet color. I wanted variance-cabinets to be their own thing- glad I listened to my gut because it’s a ton of cabinets to not like-it’s really a great color- looks great with the satin bronze hardware.

Thank you all for your ideas! I have to get rid of the chairs because a couple of them have missing braces and won’t last long. I’ve had the set since 1997 - it’s past time to go. I like the ideas of long (sheer) curtains, art work, maybe rug and match table color to ceiling g fan. I wouldn’t mind replacing the ceiling fan with something that has more character, but don’t think that’s in the cards right now.

Your old wall color Wind's Breath was a pale gray gold-yellow. Your choices to replace it are all a pale but more pure yellow. Cloud White has a Hue of 55, and both Cloud Cover and Silver Satin have a Hue of 53. I sampled the colors via my photo program, but because paint is a combination of pigments the photo program doesn't catch all the nuances. Nonetheless, the colors are nearly identical. When spread over a wall there will be variations of tone due to highlight and shadow. Northern light is bluish, and will make yellow seem more green. You might correct this by using warm white lighting, that is bulbs with low color temperature (below 3000K). The light in the photo of your kitchen table seems to wash the color from the wall closest to it. It could be a daylight bulb with a color temperature of 6000K or higher. These are great for detail work, but give off a bluish tint. In contrast, your formal dining room light gives off a decidedly warm yellow light. This LINK shows how a bulb's color temperature affects colors it shines on. Many designers recommend you use a pink tinted paint for a room with northern light.

This is a table form the windsor chair website. The base is painted "antiqued black over red". I think that would look great on that table. I have no clue how to do it.

I like the idea of painting it black too....

I have always loved revere pewter so recently painted my LR in it. During the day, the sunlight gives it a purple hue and at night with lights on, just looks gray. Looking for new color :( Hopefully you will have better luck!

To get the aged look with red underneath, a trick is to use red shoe polish where you don't want the paint to adhere. Or any color of polish that is wanted. Run it along the edges and/or put some dings with the polish in them, or a sweeping motion in areas. You can still put a finish over this.

I painted my set black a year ago and am really tired of it. Am trying to come up with another color.

Liljenster, I'm sorry to hear that Revere Pewter didn't work out for you. I detest when colors do that! And I particularly hate when colors go purple (I'm not a purple fan ... not for my house anyway).

I'm going to ponder on this a little more so I'm confident in my decision before I do anything!
