Help, please. Where to put fireplace (and TV) in new build
Comments (6)Definitely a corner FP. Most houseplans have them in the middle of a wall and it will restrict you in furniture and TV placement. Unless it's a short wall with built-in's on either side. A corner FP will free up all the walls for furniture, TV and windows. I love our FP in the corner. We have a TV on one wall along with a window, and the other wall has plenty of wall space along with two large windows. This way we can enjoy the view (we're in the country), TV and FP at the same time....See MorePlease critique my TV size over fireplace
Comments (28)I know you have quite a bit to read through here already, so I will try to keep this brief. Because of the doorways leading into your room, your sofa layout is most definitely the most practical, and having the TV over the fireplace provides with the best view from both seating locations so I would stick to your gut on that one. With regard to the tile, I would make sure to select a dark grout that blends in well. Without seeing the actual tile, my best guess is that a taupe would still provide you with a bit of contrast which you like in your inspiration picture without creating too much of a color difference to be bothersome while watching TV. When DH held up the cardboard over the fireplace, it was perfect. My suggestion is to get a TV mount that tilts so that you can have it slightly facing downwards to maximize viewing comfort. You can also certainly have a wood mantlepiece. However, for all of this to look great, I think you need to extend your tile to the corners where the wall bends. If you have a professional tile installer do the installation they can cut the tiles at an angle so it ends right into the wall. Otherwise, you can order a tile liner for the edges for a finished look. I attached a picture of a fireplace I did in grey with the TV up high with a tilt mount so you can see an example of it in action. Comments (15)I've made so many exciting changes. I love my new colors, greens, browns, accenting with rust, and will post pictures soon. Sorry, furniture arrangement remains the same. I bought two round oversized wood tables, and a matching oval coffee table, painted walls Old Salem Gray, added a couple area rugs, living and entryway, finished sewing interlined plaid drapes last night, now I am trying to decide how to hang them, added a couple embroidered flowery pillows, seems like the list goes on and on. I need to paint fireplace brown yet, buy new lamps, a picture, and accessories. Do you like either of these ideas...built in shelves with , cabinet doors possibly painted Whitall Brown, same color I plan to use behind the tv or the Floating Shelves painted brown. I don't really like the paneling look on the builtins but I thought the brown cabinets below to match the brown above the fireplace would work ?? These are the shelving /bookcases INSPIRATIONAL pictures I think will work. Do you like them?? Thank you so much for inspiring me to make CHANGES...I've been waiting to move, and now I love my "new home"..well not really, but I'm feeling in style now with painted walls!! Will post entry, living and kitchen pics soon. Today I am sewing my patio door drapes, in a fabulous multi colored stripe. Also loved my kitchen chairs slipcovered in beige tapestry print, so BB&B here I come for 5 more of those bargains $5.99 each plus coupons!! Michelle...See MoreHelp! Should I leave our TV centered above the fireplace or mantel?
Comments (33)I would paint lower cabinet doors black and insides of bookcase black. Add a couple simple white and gold accessories along with a group of books light backs. Add simple look on mantel on side of TV. Add black woven basket for toys beside fireplace. Add stack of birch logs to fireplace for decorative look if you don’t use it often. Do not put personal photos on this wall. Better in gallery arrangement in master br or in hallway. You can enjoy more when you can get closer to them. Guests aren’t interested in your personal stuff. Keep it simple since your sweet baby will be running around before you know it!...See MoreSuzy
