I wouldn’t put it on the mantel at all. If I was trying to watch tv from the sectional my neck would hurt. Unless I was lying down, I guess.

TV viewing is soooo much more comfortable with the TV near eye height. Can you rotate your sofa and TV 90 degrees clockwise putting the TV on the wall to the right of the fireplace?

I think above the fireplace looks good. Plus, where your L-shaped couch is situated, it works better where it is now. And you can always offset it by putting the black picture frames you suggest or a decorative hanging wall piece of art on the left above the mantel.

I would leave it where it is, above firebox.

If viewing the tv at the higher level is uncomfortable, don’t you think the OP would move it? Obviously it’s not an issue for them. Every time someone posts a tv over a fireplace they get the “optimum viewing lecture”. 🙄

Yep, the lecture does get tedious. I have my tv over the fireplace and I love it. Zero neck problems. Extremely comfortable. Been that way for 8 years now so you'd think I'd be in agony by now. 🙄

I too roll my eyes at comments about "neck strain" when it comes to TVs mounted above fireplaces. What, your eyes don't have the ability to look up? Your neck doesn't tilt to accommodate all manner of situations? I think those who maintain that everyone is gonna be in for a world of physical pain because of where they mount the telly need to step back and realize that perhaps the issue is their own and not applicable to the majority. Our TV has been above the fireplace for 5+ years, with nary a trip to the chiropractor necessary.

When I was trying to decide on what I wanted above my fireplace mantel, I bought about 3 options. I bought mirrors, I bought two paintings and two pieces of modern art wall hangings. My fireplace is centre set so, I was able to mount the TV right in the centre above the mantel. But, I wanted to have some form of wall decoration on either side of the TV offset above the top of the TV. I couldn't decide what would look best so, I bought all three options in pairs to see what worked best. I finally decided on the paintings. So, try out a few options and ask your husband or friend to hold it up while you are stepped back to see what you think.

But, in my opinion, the mirror option may not look good near your wall mounted TV. It will make your wall look more busy than other options.

I like the TV in its current position, it compliments the weight of the FP. I would do a pair of photos stacked one another the other, thin frames, wide mat, black and white or other simple design. Will balance the space and give you an option for colorful art on other wall.

I would paint lower cabinet doors black and insides of bookcase black. Add a couple simple white and gold accessories along with a group of books light backs. Add simple look on mantel on side of TV. Add black woven basket for toys beside fireplace. Add stack of birch logs to fireplace for decorative look if you don’t use it often. Do not put personal photos on this wall. Better in gallery arrangement in master br or in hallway. You can enjoy more when you can get closer to them. Guests aren’t interested in your personal stuff. Keep it simple since your sweet baby will be running around before you know it!

Wow Flo I appreciate all of your help. That is great advice. So do not center tv over mantel and leave here for sure? Sorry I’m so back and forth. Should I get more than one frame with art work and do like a collage wall with different size frames since that is a frame tv? Or just stick to one piece?

Don’t center TV. You want to keep arrangement left of TV simple but interesting. One piece of art an inch or two smaller than height of TV, a tall glass or ceramic piece to left about same height as TV (it’s all about balance) and a couple small white and black pots with greenery. Use “satin” finish paint. SW Tricorn Black is good black. And find some decorative hardware for cabinet doors. Gold flower shape would be nice. Nothing that looks like kitchen hardware. Something along this line. It will help it look more like a console.

Flo Mangan - I really like your suggestion with the first picture you posted. Its a nice balance with the TV offset to the right.

Thanks Sidler. you could also fill the existing hole for knob and sand off with very fine sandpaper. Tack off all dust and drill new hole. Many high end consoles are doing very decorative hardware either centered in middle edge of doors or in center of panels.
