Art above new flat screen TV
Comments (11)I had the same problem with my tv.. and I ended up buying a taller console. I don't like anything "busy" around the viewing screen. Lifting the screen was perfect and made a big difference. Plus, I like the viewing angle better now too. An idea for your mantle-- I have two pictures resting on the mantle but overlapping. My situation/tastes are a little different but I think the basic idea could still work for you. Both my prints are matted with a lot of "white space" and they are somewhat related (both are B&W. One is a landscape and the other a tree) I also have a vase on the mantle with.. hahah don't laugh.. interesting "sticks" from the yard-- one of which hangs over the artwork. I think it pulls together pretty well and it addresses a big design hurdle (the entire wall above the mantle is a mirror plate). Your room is really cozy and personal.. I think you'll be very happy with a painting your daughter made just for you. In the meantime I think adding some height and matting your existing prints and putting them in larger frames will definitely make the mantle area more visually interesting. Good luck!...See MoreTV size for above fireplace
Comments (9)@badabing2 Some feedback on the mount, now that it has been installed about a week: I like it. It's very well made and heavy. I do find it quite difficult to move up and down, though. (You need to "put your back into it" to get it to move. I think a child or old person might be unable to.) Also -- and this isn't really a criticism, but an observation -- mounting the soundbar was challenging. Since the mounting mechanism is meant to support basically any type of soundbar, it's less than ideal, and I feel the soundbar isn't firmly mounted. It's basically hanging there, and I need to be careful to not knock it off it's support. But, reality is, I don't know that they could have done it much differently while still supporting so many soundbar designs. It's a good mount overall....See MoreHow many inches above a console should a tv be mounted?
Comments (17)@ salonva, the height is based on 18" to the top of the sofa/chair cushion plus 24" for the eye-height of a person sitting there, which is 42"; others say 40" is optimum eye-height. People are not all the same height so this is a general guideline. My own TV has only a 32" picture and sits on a TV cabinet. The center of the screen is 43" above the floor. The bottom of the frame sits about 34" above the floor. Ultimately, this is a personal decision. If you are happy with the height of your TV that is what counts. You just don't want the screen to be too low or too high which stresses your neck. Some installers are recommending even more height for really large TVs so they feel more theater like. Be careful, very few people like viewing a movie from the front row of the theater....See MoreHelp! Should I leave our TV centered above the fireplace or mantel?
Comments (33)I would paint lower cabinet doors black and insides of bookcase black. Add a couple simple white and gold accessories along with a group of books light backs. Add simple look on mantel on side of TV. Add black woven basket for toys beside fireplace. Add stack of birch logs to fireplace for decorative look if you don’t use it often. Do not put personal photos on this wall. Better in gallery arrangement in master br or in hallway. You can enjoy more when you can get closer to them. Guests aren’t interested in your personal stuff. Keep it simple since your sweet baby will be running around before you know it!...See Moregirlnamedgalez8a
