I think inside mount will serve you best. I would hate to cover up the trim and personally feel the shade look better when its framed with the trim around it.

I should also add that because of the cove ceilings, there is only about 4.5 inches between the top of the trim and the ceiling. Here's a picture of his current nursery so you can what I'm talking about (with inside mount shades).

Those are cordless, aren't they? There are too many children killed every year from cords on shades. There is a big push to make all window treatments safer because of the injuries. Most manufacturers are trying to make adjustments, but it's a big expense. Some lawsuits have resulted and even the people making the shades have been named in the suits.

Sorry I got off topic, but I just get nervous when I see a set up like yours. We don't even sell anything with cords if they are installed in a kids' bedroom.

Inside mount, as long as you have the room.

One thing I am going to suggest is that you consider blinds instead of shades. Blinds allow air flow and light adjustment that roman shades just don't allow.

We had no choice--our solar shade Roman style blinds had to be mounted as outside mount because of our window depth. If you have a choice, go with the look you prefer.

I vote for inside mount if the trim is pretty and in good shape.

Inside mount is preferable. We had to do outside due to the nature of our windows, but I would have much preferred the clean look of inside mount.

Sallymo - the shades in the picture are not cordless, so we changed the position of the crib once he became mobile for the exact safety reasons that you mention. I'm replacing the shades in the picture for several reasons, including safety. The room is so small and the windows placed in such a way that there is no way to avoid having his bed right next to a window, which really stinks. Anyway, yes, the new shades will definitely be cordless.

I like the look of inside mount, but you do get light coming in around the edges. If your child needs a darkened room to sleep soundly, you may want to consider an outside mount.
