Roman shades - inside or outside mount?
Comments (12)Those are cordless, aren't they? There are too many children killed every year from cords on shades. There is a big push to make all window treatments safer because of the injuries. Most manufacturers are trying to make adjustments, but it's a big expense. Some lawsuits have resulted and even the people making the shades have been named in the suits. Sorry I got off topic, but I just get nervous when I see a set up like yours. We don't even sell anything with cords if they are installed in a kids' bedroom....See Moreroman shades inside or outside mount?
Comments (9)Thanks for your response. jejvtr, basically the actual window is set back in the wall so there is about 8 inches of space between the window and where the shade would be with an outside mount as it skims the wall. This space is just boxed out with dry wall and there is no trim at all. I'm sure I don't have all of the right terms for it and I don't have pics just yet. Seems like most people agree with an outside mount though. And, I just saw on another post (Contrasting Trim vs Same Color Trim as Wall post) where a roman was placed with an outside mount and then behind it they used a fiber roller shade. It looked pretty good. Maybe I'll consider that....See MoreCan I do outside mount roman shades on these windows?
Comments (17)They of course WILL make them. and what they will not tell you is it is GONNA be a pain in the rear end. Over time, simply the lift and strain on rings and cords, and the heat that builds up with every yank, will "burn out" the cords. Then.......no matter how well crafted? Plan for puff and fluff ritual with every yank back to raised position. You can spend the money and find out. I wouldn't let a client do it at that width. Do as you will. Come back with the regrets: ) The treatment is INAPPROPRIATE for your windows. But yes....... someone will be happy to take your money. The corner will be the least of the issues. Hide an inside mount privacy treatment under a "fixed and never moving " roman shade valance. Or do not do it at all. Ya heard it here....See MoreRoman Shade Outside Mount measuring questions
Comments (12)I agree with Sabrina! It will look at lot better with the one continuous piece across the top. If you really want the function of the two shades tho you could do a split headrail (1 headrail with 2 operable shades within it) and have the valance go all the way across. For outside mount it is always ideal to have it end at the edge of the trim. Otherwise it could look out of proportion and not very custom finished....See Morechispa
