Is this your dining room table and if so how many people do you need to seat?

How about a round 60 inch table? Would your room hold that size of table? For the chandelier I think you can make a pretty big statement with something, perhaps a chandelier that is 30 inches in diameter.

no, this is not our dining room per se, more like an extension of the kitchen. we do have a formal dining room already. We actually just need a place in this area that can sit 4-6. We have a really nice round 48" table but it is way too large. and the card table there is way to square and small and has inlaid leather so not good for casual. I think I am definitely leaning to something not deeper than 40" and can run at least 65 ". Just unsure of a style or style of chandelier above...there is already a receptacle on the slanted ceiling centered over bookcase there. Yeah I like the idea of a big chandelier, THANKS! The kitchen just has small drum shade pendants.

Got it. I'm still seeing a round table there as a nice juxtaxposition to the straight edge of your sofa back and the rectangle of the book case. A round table is a little easier to get around too because it doesn't have pointed corners.

The trick will be getting the scale of your chandelier to be pleasing in this situation. Because your ceilings are high, but your table will be fairly small it might be tricky to find a chandelier that looks proportionate to the room. Maybe a small chandelier (20 inches in diameter?) but that looks weighty and not airy?

I do get that round table to 'round off' everything. I was just a bit more afraid because All 3 of my pendants in the kitchen are drum shape (round) as well as the canned lights, 20" D sounds perfect too. I'll start searching. for a weighty light. Any tips on finish? Most of everything is pewter, nickel, stainless and a bit of ORB around there.

Hmm, well, it's very popular to install lanterns these days; that could be a really interesting choice becuase it will get you awa from the sizing rules of a chandelier. I'm crazy about anything from Currey and Company. Yeah, if you have to ask you can't afford it, right? If you go to lightingdirect.com they carry the entire line of Currey and Co and you can find prices there. As you may have guessed, the Currey and Co Chandeliers aren't cheap! But, maybe you'll find something at Currey and Co that inspires you and find a similar version through a different manufacturer. HEY, ANDreadeg...I am definitely thinking in the weighty area. And actually my mother has a rectangle (I know, I know) fairly ornate jacobean/european table which is a bit shorter than the couch and not deep, 38 " which may look kind of cool there if I get some fabric chairs possibly around it. It is fairly dark stained. Do you think a crystal chandelier would look ok over it? I had thought of this too/ I have one in the DR I was thinking I might transfer and get a diff. one for the DR.
