Samsung Washer WF407 & Dryer DV407 Deal at Best Buy

Hello I am new to the Laundry Forum as this is my first post, however I have been reading and reading and reading for about the past six weeks. My husband and I are looking to replace our 14 year old Speed Queen W/D. They are neither one completely broken, our reasons are that the washer has become "cranky" and the dryer is electric, and we would like to get a new up to date pair to save on water and electricity and switch over to a gas dryer.

I have made up my mind several times.....only to completely change it a day or so later. I know we want a HE pair, and have gone back and forth between a top loader vs a front loader matched set.

Tonight on eBay I happened across some auctions for coupons for a Samsung pair deal at Best Buy. The deal is for washer WF407 and dryer DV407, both marked as new on the Best Buy website. I checked Samsung's own site and cannot find them mentioned, so they seem to be either so new that even the company does not have them listed yet, or possibly they are a Best Buy exclusive. The coupon deal is pretty remarkable, 50% off regular price of the pair. Regular price is $1,199.99 each.

Has anyone ever heard of these models or know much about them? From everything I have read Samsung is one of the more reliable brands so they were already on my "possible" list. I'm thinking of going ahead and picking up one of the coupons ASAP and then checking them out on the store; it looks like one can pick the coupons up for somewhere around $20-$30 or so.

I appreciate any information anyone can contribute. :-)

Just to clarify, we will pay the electric to gas dryer difference of about $60, since the 50% off deal is for washer/electric dryer.

Congratulations on finding the deal of the century ) I just purchased the Samsung pair not an hour ago. It's an amazing deal and couldn't have come at a better time -- my 1983 Kenmore washer took it's final spin last night (the clutch and transmission froze).

First thing you need to know -- YOU DO NOT A PHYSICAL COUPON to take advantage of the offer, so no need to purchase one from eBay! You can simply print a scanned version using your computer printer.

You will need a Best Buy Rewards membership (free enrollment) and a printout of the coupon. Follow these steps:

1. You must be a Best Buy Rewards member to take advantage of the offer. The coupon was sent only to Premium members (those who have purchased $2500 in products from BB in the last year) and I believe the fine print states that it's only open to the 'elite' members. HOWEVER, BB will honor the deal to basic members. Enrollment is free and you will not be charged a service fee, nor be obligated to purchase anything from BB down the line. You might also want to print the other posted documents: the item pages (for the washer and dryer) and the scanned receipts/success stories from successful purchasers for verification.

4. Head down to your local Best Buy with your replacement card printout, the printed coupon, item page printouts, and anything else you printed. More than likely, the models will not be displayed on the showroom floor -- these are brand new units.

4. Present the coupon to the sales rep in the Appliances section. If they're clued in, the transaction should go smoothly. I was assisted by a manager who recognized the coupon in my hand from a mile away. She smiled, congratulated me on finding the deal, answered questions about the features of this model, and offered to ring me up if/when I was ready. The transaction was seamless. Your experience may vary, of course, so if you have any trouble, talk to a manager, insist that they scan the card/coupon (it WILL go through), or visit another store -- it's worth the exceptional value. I'm guessing, however, that BB is happy to move the product to anyone who happens to find the deal.

Note that the highly-rated basic model (WF218) is on sale for $698 (the dryer is ~$800), so the deal can't be beat.

I also opted for an extended 5 year warranty since its a new model, but you can choose whether it's right for you.

The manager verified that the prices will return to full retail ($1200 each/$2400 for the pair) after the 14th, so take advantage of the deal asap!

Oh, one last detail: this sku is exclusive to Best Buy. It combines features from the basic model -- WF218/219 -- and the next step up -- WF32. WF218 has 10 wash cycles. This model has 12 cycles, like the WF32, and extra steam features (and perhaps a few other minor details). The manager told me that they are offering the deal to boost Best Buy's customer base for Samsung products (and to sell warranties, I'm sure).

We purchased a Samsung VRT front loader and have had no problems so far for about 6 or 7 years. We got it from Sears and when the 5 year warrantee expired I purchased another 3 year plan. Unlike others here at GW we have had good luck with service from our local sears. When I thought there was something wrong with the soap dispenser of our washer they sent a new one right away. Turned out not to be a problem, just a design that didn't make sense. Our Kenmore refrigerator got routine service annually under warrantee and all has been well. That unit is about 9 years old and I only had to replace a dispenser tray in the ice maker not under warrantee, so I found a local repair shop that would install a new one I bought at Amazon for less than their wholesale cost. I have no experience with LG but the only products that have had mostly positive reviews is their refrigerator. To bad too because some of their stuff looks so sexy.

RE: Samsung Top-Loading Washer. The tub does rotate to fill the machine, but the water sprays around the edges, not toward the middle. I watched the entire cycle by shining a flashlight through the glass top. Water sprayed around the edges until the predestined amount was achieved. The pair of sweat pants in the middle floated, but never - throughout the entirety of the cycle - did the leg EVER submerge in the water. The gentle side-to-side swishing did, however, manage someway or another to tangle the sleeves and legs that WERE submerged to the point that it knotted them and threw the load off-balance. I’ve been doing laundry for quite a few decades now. My parents purchased a washer/dryer when i was about 4 years old and those appliances managed to wash clothes that looked and smelled clean and better yet - they did it for close to 40 years. I learned to do laundry with those appliances. My mother taught me how to place items in the machine to make sure the load was balanced and then choose the appropriate water level, temperature, and wash cycle. We didn’t struggle with unbalanced loads or tangled clothing. You set the machine, started the cycle, and walked away. When you came back, the load was done and ready for the dryer. I find it insulting that the companies engineering products now assume that I’m too freaking stupid to make my own decisions about the appropriate settings for something as simple as washing a load of laundry. I’m not so stupid as to stick my arm into a moving spin cycle and I actually parented my children to the point they knew that I would not allow them to climb into the appliances and/or drink bleach or eat detergent pods (so no need to lock the freaking lid of the washing machine). I managed to raise my children without child-proofing my house and treating cleaning products like we were housing plutonium. I taught them how to do age-appropriate chores and safely use household appliances. Fast-forward to now … Instead of cultivating an educated, self-reliant, intelligent society, we’re engineering with an attempt to make everything idiot-proof, consequently producing generations of idiots that can’t make reasonable decisions about their everyday existence. Good grief. And quite frankly I’m sick to death of hearing how environmentally friendly a company is that produces and “energy efficient” appliance that will need to be replaced every 8 years or so - the technology has existed since my childhood to produce a product that will last 20+ years. How environmentally sound is it to save a few gallons of water, yet send THREE machines to the landfill during the same time-frame that we used to send only ONE worn-out machine?!?! There is a serious disconnect with common sense going on here - I’m sick of things engineered for the lazy and the stupid. That washing machine sitting in my laundry room has delivered to me a resounding message from Samsung - and the message is … “We think you’re a blithering idiot who’s too stupid to operate a washing machine, so we’re taking the ability to make ANY decisions away from you.” We have computers in kindergarten classrooms, but society thinks adults are too stupid to learn to use a washing machine …

Best washer = Miele, best dryer = ??

On dryers, it seems the bigger the better. As it has been noted, it is possible with the larger washers like Miele W48xx, Duets, HE5t, etc, to actually overload the dryer. I had the Miele T9800 for about 5 months. Some observations. Overall a good dryer. List price is actually reasonable (I paid $1200). A little smaller at 6.4CF than other competitive dryers (7-7.3CF). And limited temp controls and very limited manual timer/temp options. Almost too limited, YMMV. Loud, but bearable (mostly air flow sounds). Nice SS drum, filter, all glass door, and reverse tumble. Normal setting sometimes slightly under dried clothes, but not a big problem. I now have the HE5t matching Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer. As posted, I returned my Miele W48xx machines. I did considered for a while just keeping (or getting another Miele T9800 dryer) to go with the HE5t. Eventually matching considerations and the ridiculously low price I ended up getting both the HE5t and dryer. The Kenmore high-end dryer as compared to the Miele is bigger (7 vs 6.4 CF), shocking quite (like real quite), seems to dry about the same- time/dry level. Very flexible temp control and timer/temp options. Almost overkill. but nice to have. Digital readouts (including time remaining) instead of Miele status LED indicators. No SS drum nor option to get one. Overall pleased but lack of SS drum is concern. If the Miele dryer was a little larger, a little quieter and had more manual temp/controls, it would be strong contender. The Miele looks like a high quality dryer, the Kenmore looks so-so. Looked at LG, and Samsung dryers. Both had SS drum options, but overall quality level seem to be more in the Kenmore/Whirlpool range and price about the same as Kenmore. Where LG and Samsung lead if a very big 7.3 CF capacity. So far I have not missed reverse tumble. I had it both on the Miele and older Bosch dryers. I don't think you need it on these larger dryer (or need is very reduced). On the Miele T9800, the reverse tumble was actually used very little of the time. It was also interesting on the reverse tumble phase because the dryer suddenly would get very quite- apparently just reduced air flow noise. This indicated the noise was not the mechanics of drum but just motor noise and air flow issues. My gut feel is the Miele could (or should) cut the air flow back for home use. For a commercial dryer, it is probably ok, but most home users would make the trade-off easily. Also, it is sucking your conditioned air out your home at a high rate. So no free lunch on reduced drying time (if any) over other more standard dryers. In a basement- yes. Upstairs- no.

Need help buying a washer and dryer

We recently moved to a new (to us) house, where of course the previous owner had replaced the WD before they sold. It is a Maytag Centennial set (one year old) and I hate it. The clothes are wrinkled and twisted in the washer so my steamer has been getting quite a workout, and the dryer has to be run for 2-3 cycles to dry anything, even on high. I have to plan drying to make sure I am home long enough to to start it again because otherwise it is sitting damp and warm and gets mildewed smelling. I have had the vent cleaned, the vent tubing replaced, cleaned the sensor, and have tried every setting and every level and every size of load. I have done everything suggested in the owner's manual and online. I haven't tried replacing the sensor yet as it is the same story when I use timed dry. I can only conclude that this is a piece of junk and am here looking for something better. I have kids and I don't have time for this kind of nonsense. It's a shame because we left behind a 30-year-old Maytag set that worked like a charm. So this is all to say don't get an HE Maytag !

Thanks for the details. I came across this in a deal forum and I am going to pick up a pair. My 16 year old Whirlpool set still works but if I wait until they die I won't get this great deal again.

I currently have a gas dryer. Should I go with gas again or electric? Does one typcially have fewer failures? Is gas cheaper to run? The gas dryer is only $30 more. - Thanks
