Who would you choose?

If you could have dinner with any book "character" who would it be?

My choice would be Stephanie Plum, who we've recently written about. She would be hilarious.

I'm sure I can think of someone more serious, interesting but she would be a hoot.

Oh, Princess Diana! That would be something.

This is a late post, but I wanted to put a word in for Glenn Drowns great selection at Sand Hill Preservation Center as he has 2 exclusive varieties which make my list. 1. Open pollinated Big Boy, for the reason Big Boy with care produces large harvests of a sprite tasting, not too tomatoey, but acidic tomatoe which is cleansing to the palate and one can never tire of. RL (regular leaf) I (Indeterminate) 2. Backfield, this is an early tomatoe of robust tomatoe flavor, huge, huge yields, dark red, hardy plants which ripens all at one time. Spectacular flavor on a determinate plant.. This tomatoe makes other early types like Silvery Fir Tree which is a good early tomatoe taste like those bland store types. It is that good in the heat and is pretty too. FL, D 3. Red Pear, huge yields of cherry tomatoes with Beefstake quality if one allows them to ripen in heat. RL, SD will need staking. 4. Azoychka, A light acidic version of Big Boy in a yellow tomatoe. Very hardy in extreme conditions, germinates well in cool sprouting and has very good yields of good sized fruits. RL, I 5. Rose, this is like most pinks in a work horse for a later tomatoe. It is huge, meaty, plants that resemble weeds for thickness and being tough. The fruit is meaty and sweet and under right conditions will be fruity. (only problem is one must cut the fruit from the vine as the plants are unwilling to give up their treasure.) RL, I Also mentions, Black Krim but one would tire readily if you had to eat just them as they are heavy on the palate. Riesentraub for the Campbell's type juice if you like that. In an additional note, people need to be warned that Brandywine is a musty flavored tomatoe which does have a smooth or slimey type flesh. This tomatoe is one which is the reason why so many people who first taste tomatoes say they do not like tomatoes. It is very distinct. Most people prefer the sweet types like Rose. Sweet types or heavies like Krim will tire people in eating them by the peck. That is why I mix and rely on the acidic types as they allow one to different flavors to keep on eating tomatoes.

which type of neighborhood would you choose/what DID you choose?

Either B or C...we're not the cheapest house in the neighborhood but there are some that are significantly larger/more extravagant/ pricier than ours. The neighborhood began development about 20 years ago. The original builder is completing the development. We actually chose the neighborhood before we decided to build. We chose it for the school system (best in the city), location (very close commute to work, shopping, highway, etc), and the overall feel. When we walked around while shopping for houses, other people stopped us to introduce themselves and tell us how much they liked their house, neighborhood, and the builder. We also ran into about 7 different acquaintances that all lived there! We looked at another development that is newer but the houses all backed up to each other so the backyards were not private. That was a deal breaker for us. We couldn't find a house in our price range to buy in our chosen neighborhood, so we bought the last lot and are currently builder. So far, relatively smooth sailing.

awwwww Maggie~Your Mom lives forever in your heart!! You quilt with her everyday........My Mom was not a sewer, but she encouraged me and shopped for me while I was in school - she was color blind so hated it when I asked her to buy me thread ~lol~ When I began quilting a few years ago, I said how proud she would be of what I am making-she would be so happy for me. I know how you feel. I've taken some workshops-2 days with Sue Nichols - she was great-great-great! I am like a sponge at these workshops. I would like to spend a day with Leah Day also. She is young and fresh and full of creativity. I would also like to spend a day with Karen McTavish. She looks so fun and such a free spirit! I can't pick one so I'd have to make reservations for five (hubby would make five). Spenser, Hawk and Susan.

Not sure if anyone else reads Robert Parker but the "spenser" series was the basis for the "Spenser for Hire" TV show back in the early 80s.

Dees, I darned near cried when Robert B Parker died.
He brought such life to the Spenser books and I loved his wit.

Don't invite Susan to dinner, she'll order a full meal and then spend the whole time eating 3 beans and sesame seed, washing it all down with 2 sips from her martini. lol

I'll pick Jack Reacher, from the Lee Child books. :)

Besides their charming good looks, both Spenser and Hawk bring intellect to the table. Susan, well, she seems to be what we all strive to be, minus eating three forkfuls of salad and a glass of white wine. She's beautiful and highly intelligent. She has both Spenser and Hawk as her alpha males. They all have a sense of humor while maintaining a sense of propriety. I think spending time in the kitchen with Spenser would be awesome.

My friends, that is why I picked those three. It would be a feast for all senses, even if we dined out!

I'm with you, Kayjones! I've always had a tremendous fascination with LIW and would be lost in a dreamworld for days after I finished one of her books as a kid. I've also read a few others as an adult that chronicle her life or that of her daughter. I started one series that I got through a magazine that was AWFUL and put it down immediately. I will be a state away from Mansfield, MO on a drive from one city to another this summer, but I know we won't have time to stop. :( Some day!

I'm with Chloecat and Lindyluwho - Jamie Fraser it is. (Can Roger MacKenzie and Lord John come, too?) Though I'd also like to spend some time with with Rob Gordon from Nick Hornby's "High Fidelity" or Konstantin Levin from Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina."

I was thinking of myself, mainly ...

... but I figure that as God looks at the wonderful world that he made ...

... and entrusted to our care ...

... that S/He must be some disappointed at the mess that we've made of it.

P.S. I got very few whippings when I was young ... and, though I didn't like them ...

... when I caused serious disappointment to my Dad ... that was deeply troubling.

Though we young boys had much responsibility on our large farm during World War II, when the hired hands had gone to war ... Dad ruled with a light hand - and I trust that God does, too.
