Similar molds, lichens, and mosses grow in the grass also, and the plant pathology lab at WVU is the place to go for diagnosis. Contact your nearest Cooerative Extension Service for lab information. You also need a soil test. I read that iron sulfate will help the mold, but let the test(s) tell your for certain. I suspect the area is growing where there is limited sunlight, and it may also be constantly moist/over watered. send samples to plant pathology for diagnosis get a soil test to reveal pH balance and nutrient needs aerate to relieve compacted dethatch to reduce host plants irrigate 1 inch per week trim trees and bushes to improve sunlight and air circulation fertilize regularly but less in shady areas than normally recommended. Wow lots of interesting stuff here! I think there are multiple issues here, and, since the health of the plants isn't great, I would deal with all possible problems rather than hunt down one specific one. If it were me I would do the following, since doing them would fix any of the most likely problems that you may be having. I would change the mix to a free draining one. I would check the roots, and pot into a container that is only a little larger than the rootball. I would put them in a partially sunny position after the repot until they get used to their new mix and pot. I would then move to a sunny location once things started to settle. I would make sure the room had plenty of humidity with gravel trays or a humidity. I would make sure the room was warm, and provide bottom heat to the pots if possible. I would inspect for bugs. Mites and scale seem the most prolific - possibly mites in your case. Webbing is a telltale sign, and sometimes hard to spot, but not always present. I would treat with Toni's spray regardless (she can tell you the ingredients, or you can search previous posts.) If you do spot bugs, use Toni's spray or a suitable one for fruiting plants from a garden centre. I would water these (after the repot) only when the new medium was closer to dry than damp. In a new medium you won't have to worry so much over watering - if it is the right medium it is unlikely you will overwater unless you go nuts with it. Fertilize only very lightly until the tree is back to health, then feed with a high nitrogen feed every couple of weeks. Citrus bounce back, but they take time. These are not by any means the be all and end all of things you should do, they are merely what I personally would do :) Danny

This is a tough one. Normally the filler stock piece is what accounts for the difference, like Beuhl shows, and it's what I've always seen. But THESE cabinets won't look right with it. They are really nice, but built weird. I mean unusual. Not weird like you'd look at 'em and say "how weird", but there is no wiggle room with the crown. Everything has snug gaps and they need to be even. I think you have to tackle this from the ceiling, like Plllog's. (I'm surprised a cabinet seller would allow you to order something like this without being darn sure your ceiling was perfect.) Don't leave it like this, though!

Yes, lightlystarched, bmorepanic and salmon_slayer (what a name!), I agree, that 'V' is bothering me too. Do you think it would work if we just softened the 'V' and the countertop corners on the cabinet or would it still be too large? I am hoping to put an undercounter refrigerator there so a smaller one would not work for that purpose. But also don't want to create an eyesore. So I keep looking for pictures of something similar but haven't found anything yet. salmon_slayer, we are going with Elm cabinets, it is a local brand here (NJ), marketed as "reasonably priced" (they think :)) custom cabinets. We saw them at a neighbor's house and were very impressed so decided to use them too. One benefit - same price for inset as for full overlay. I was very happy about that and decided to go with the inset but now learning it may be harder to achieve the integrated look with the dishwasher (the doors on the full overlay help to cover more of the appliances, something I didn't consider previously), so now thinking about that one again. As far as the microwave goes, KD suggested the cabinet above the appliance garage. Well, it is very far from the fridge and also right next to the basement door. Our laundry and also a play area are in the basement so there is some traffic. Should I be concerned about it? The other option is the upper cabinet next to the refrigerator but even apart from the way it would look, it would mean dividing the upper cabinets on both sides of the range into a 24" and a 10" so loosing some storage on the right side as well.
