WOW....those sconces are gorgeous and so is your painting. I am quite biased when it comes to amber colored anything!!!
I would sketch a copy of each sconce on paper and play around with them. Probably centered on each side of the picture, but not sure about the distance FROM the picture.

I think the sconces are a good choice to go with your painting. (I love your wall color and was wondering the name of the paint. I don't want to go off topic but we will have our house painted soon and that color just might work for me!)

Beautiful sconces. The picture so nicely fills the space over the table that I'm not sure I would add sconces to the scene. Next you are going to start placing things on the table, and before you know it, the various lovely things are competing with one another.

I think the picture is at the right height.

Personally, I wouldn't put them there because with the picture being as wide as the table underneath, it will only make the table look smaller. If the table were another foot longer in each direction, then I would. But if you're defintitely going to put them there, I would take the height of the painting minus the height of the sconces. Then divide that number in half and I'd have (in inches) how far from the top of the painting the top of the sconce should be.

I would place the top of the sconce 2 - 3" down from the top of the picture frame.

You also need to think about horizontal placement. How wide are the sconces, including the back board? And, how much space is on either side of the frame? I would place the sconces closer to the painting than to to the door, but you also want to vary the widths: painting-space-sconce-space-door. Space, sconce and space should all be different widths.

iris, the wall color in the picture is not the true color. It is Behr Harvest Brown. It is a mid tone taupe, the flash washed out the color, it is deeper.

graywings, while I love the painting, the frame to me is a bit weak especialy from the side view, adding these sconces will beef up that a bit. Thanks for your opinion,

I think the sconces look great with the picture. They finish off that wall space perfectly. In fact, I think you could eliminate the table and the wall would be fine with just the picture and the sconces. It appears to be a walkway and you may just appreciate that extra space, especially when there is someone seated at the chair that is visible in the first photo. Then again, I may be all wrong. Sometimes the perpective you get in a photo and the space IRL are entirely different.

bac717, thanks I think they fit perfectly too. In regards to the table, I specifically bought that for there, there was too much space behind the chair. There is plenty of room there with the chair pulled out. Here is a picture.

agree that you are already looking at a table and a picture in a hallway and that it looks so pretty just as is without a table Plus think about what could you even put on the table that wouldn't interfere. Do you maybe have a bench of some sort if you really want something there?
