How can I gussy up these ugly muffins?

I have to take muffins to church tomorrow for VBS and I tried 3 new recipes. Two out of three isn't bad?

The blueberry and "donut" ones turn out fine. The ones in the front row are a zucchini chocolate chip and unfortunately, I have about a dozen more. They didn't rise as much as I would have hoped and even though they taste good, they are ugly. Any ideas on helping them out in the looks department?

They don't look too bad. I'm sure just taking them out of the liners would make a world of a difference.

Wow ... that is one ugly light fixture in what looks like a cool, hip, sophisticated apartment! Looks like something you might find in a powder room. I'd remove the fixtures entirely, cap off the electrical wires temporarily and try to hang something (piece of art? textile?) over the mounting bracket. Is that even a possibility?

Please check with the city to see what the setback requirements are for new structures that are not grandfathered in. Also, read your deed to see what the easements for the power lines and power pole are. Then mark the easements with chalk or landscaper's paint (special type that vanishes after a while) on the ground. Understanding where the power company and phone company have rights to cut your shrubs is really important. You can try out several areas for a patio before hiring a landscape architect. Buy a three-cornered sail shade or a couple of patio umbrellas to move around. An elderly neighbor (who understandably may not be answering the door at this time) may be willing to give you a call if you mail a friendly letter with some photos and ask him to okay any light and easy repairs (e.g., paint, a few nails to shore up the wood) you are willing to do (if any, think about liability and safety first) or to just to give him a head's up about planting next to his fence. He probably has no idea what the structure looks like currently from your side.

Since you said you're replacing it eventually, you could paint it. Matte black, like your door. Then get a large doormat because the smooth uniform color is going to easily show dirt and grime, so covering a big part of it will help. Or you could tile over it, which could be a permanent solution. Just be sure it's the right kind so it's not slippery in the rain. Pattern tile: wood look tile:

Not too bad.....but you beat the ones with the points on top too much.
But nothing a bit of cream cheese frosting wouldn't help!!!

They look good to me too, but a bit of frosting or glaze would hide them, as has been mentioned.

I'm afraid I don't see why you think they are ugly. They look fine to me- I'd eat them :-)

You all are kind...thank you. If they weren't leaving the house, I wouldn't give it a thought. But since they're for "company"........ :) Thanks for the ideas!

I agree with everyone else.
They look fine 'as is'.

Personally, I don't care for icing on muffins.
There are some 'flavors' that I do
use either a Streusel topping
Or sprinkle with some topping sugar before baking.
But icing them seems to change them
From 'muffins' into 'cupcakes'.

And yours are different flavors.
So 'for company' or not,
I think the fact that each kind
looks different
Is an advantage.

Put them in a pretty lined (with a cloth napkin (and some other barrier like a papertowel)) basket? I like them. I'd too would think they look lovely and be glad to eat them for you.

How about just trimming down the height of the papers? Could even make the trim zig-zag or soft wavy lines. Who's to know?

Evenshade, I have to agree with the others. They're zucchini muffins, they're supposed to be that color. They look delicious to me. And,..now I want one....the zucchini one. LOL. I even like having a few that are smaller. Some people like to pick out a small one, especially if they want to try more than one.

They look totally edible to me. I don't see a problem. I don't think I'd do anything with them except put a few on a plate and grab a cup of coffee.
