The Kitchen Table

This will be a hard day for my family

Today will be so hard for my immediate family and our extended family.

My mom died in October. Then in January, we buried my cousin (my age---51 years old). She had been sick for years, but you're never quite ready.

Last Friday night, another cousin (45) was killed in a car accident. She was so sweet... So today my sister, my dad, and I will travel to southern Oklahoma for her funeral.

When it's over, we will visit the nearby monument place and order a headstone for my mom---something we weren't really ready to do before. And this will be our first visit back to the cemetary where mom is buried.

Since mom died, it has seemed like "one step forward and two steps back" in terms of emotional recovery. We just get our legs back under us when we are knocked down again. *sigh*

Please keep us in your prayers today.

You know, I like purchased stone - real stone...I bought some Pennsylvania field stone a long time ago because it has a purple cast to it. I really love it in the front garden (mixed there with the concrete). However, FREE broken concrete is about $500 a few tons cheaper. And I need cheaper after the mess of this back yard and having to completely re-do it again. I love purple. Yes, I'm painting the rain barrels purple and am contemplating at some point painting the house next door similar colors to ours. I think I can manage most of it on my own. Then the rain barrels will really blend in. We only need them for "so" long, because eventually I want to use Rain Pillows that fit under crawlspaces in the house. So we'll have so much re-usable water, able to collect almost everything that comes onto the house in a storm and much of what runs onto the property in a good rain.

LOL Rosie, my corner that covers a ridiculously large heating duct. There will be a second sink there (more a laundry type sink), that will be handy for soaking clothes to handwash, or even wash vegetables from the fridge before they get cooked. That area used to be a separate room and the plumbing was already there. Spider, I love the blue too, even more now that it is installed. You really do have to go with what you love. Blue it is such fun to watch! Productive weekend here, I actually sold all my old appliances (for money!! Wow) and my big blue tarp covering stuff on my front porch is smaller than it was. Nobody is coming today so I might go and pick up my knobs and pulls.

I just connected with a woman that I went to High School with.I don't really remember her,she was one of the popular girls and I was very shy and quiet.I joined Classmates from my HS and told about my Jim and she emailed me.She lives in Florida.It has been 6 years for her and she is not doing well at all.We email and talk on the phone.She is not in the best health and she has two children but she doesn't talk to them.She talks about ending it. She is in therapy so I know that there people who know about this. I have given her some suggestions but she won't except them.A woman at Church told me about Griefshare.Com and it tells you how to get in touch with a support group in your area.I am still dealing with my own grief.Seems that it isn't getting any easier.I have never lived alone and it isn't easy being alone.I don't drive so I have to depend on my children or cousin to take me to the doctors or to get groceries.I think having to ask for help and missing Jim so much,is part of the problem.If I could just get out some maybe it would make the days not seem so long. I really want to be a help to this woman but don't know what else to do for her.Any suggestions?

I hope that you have a day of remembering the good and happy things about your family. It is hard to mark the passing of family members but I always try to remember My Mother's smile and all the fun we had together. I know that she would want me to mourn her passing but she would want me to do it with warm and wonderful memories. I hope you all can have that kind of day.
