Can anyone suggest a simple pedometer?

Inspired by Moni's workout post I bought a pedometer in an effort to increase my walking each day. Either the silly thing is malfunctioning or it's cursed but it fails to register steps and sometimes it just turns itself off. Even my daughter can't get it to work and she's my computer/remote control/digital wiz.

Can anyone suggest a simple one?

Curves has one. I'm pretty sure you can just walk in a gym and get one. Of course (ahem) I haven't walked in one myself in some time.

Avon carries a lot of Curves athletic gear and they have the pedometer on sale for $6.99.

I am fanatically hooked on my digiwalker found at the new lifestyle website. I've been wearing it since 2002. I have the basic model, it costs about $17 maybe?, and it only counts steps. They have more detailed models but I just don't feel the need for all the other data. The only drawback to the cheaper models is the plastic clip versus the metal clip. I end up having to order a replacement clip about every 2 years. Definitely pay for the safety strap also. It might make sense to order the replacement clip with your initial order so that you can save the additional shipping cost & also be ready for any future problems.

Wearing one is very self motivating. I definitely do an extra walk or get more activity if I notice my step count is low for the day. I average 12,000+ steps a day (they suggest 10,000) and my best day ever was 30,000 (a beautiful spring day & I did 3 one hour walks that day).

Thanks to all for the farmhouse suggestions! macv, I never could figure what style I actually liked, and farmhouse is all I could come up with,but apparently it's greek revival and the connor kit homes are exactly the style I love. All the way down here in Texas, the cost to build is cheaper than buying a kit, and I don't know if anyone in our area would even be familiar with building from one. My favorite is the Augustine Parker II house except I want a first floor master. Putting it in the dream box for inspiration though. We bought a 1920 "farmhouse",but after visiting with a builder friend, he could put that same house in the dry,new,for what we'll pay to just move onto our land. So, for energy efficiency and to get exactly what we want I think we have officially decided to build. We did already have a friend draw up the renovation add-on to the old house so we owe $650. for a plan we won't be using, but better now than regrets I suppose. My husband says he only has one build in him and we better get it right. That's pressure. Oh, I already have the field of dreams house in the dream box as well. Thanks!!

It's not really your responsibility to make sure the buyer's agent (your buyer's agent) gets the proper commission...they work it out in the contract according to local custom. I believe mine got 3.5% and the seller's agent then got 3.5%. I didn't feel it was necessary to "caution you" to it, and I didn't think what I said was offensive, but I didn't know if you had worked with a buyer's agent before - and it's a mistake some buyers, especially first time buyers, make. They certainly don't do it on purpose, it just happens. Any time I found a house on realtor.com I liked, or any time her automated suggestions came by in my email and I found one I liked, I had her set up a showing for the house, because after all, she was my agent. I never once had any direct contact with sellers or their agents. The real pudding in the mix though was during negotiations - I would have NEVER got through negotiations without her. You definitely want a buyer's realtor/broker to represent you throughout the process. Many realtors have "both hats" on - they list houses as a listing agent/sellers agent and also have clients that are looking for homes and they act as buyer's agents. There are some that specialize in each thing but many do both. For example, my buyer's agent had quite a few houses listed and acted as a seller's agent for them.

Can anyone suggest a good trellis system?

I would like to grow a few grapes starting with seeded concords on about two acres that slope toward the west near the coastal range in Washington state. I don't think I will be growing enough for wine production but who knows. I am amazed and confused at how many trellising systems are suggested by the professional growers. Can anyone suggest to me a simple all around good system? I first thought that I would just put them on the fence that borders my property and the neighbor but I am not sure they will always be there and new neighbors may not like the vines there (at this point we can't determine who's fence it is and both parties don't care). Not a meal per se, but one thing I made for my grandmother when she was going through chemo was peanut butter banana smoothies. It is very helpful for a chemo patient. Also, lots of liquidy brothy soups. I made up big batches of Japanese onion soup (commonly served in Japanese Steakhouses as an appetizer) and when she couldn't eat, a cup of that was welcomed. The big thing is the caregiver needs hearty meals, the chemo patient needs lighter fare and, I've seen more than once, the chemo patient can't stand the smell of stronger spices. Perhaps prepare batches of single serving food for each of them?

I like my Omron one. It not only records your steps, it records your aerobic steps (those where you walk more than a few steps in a row) and your milage. It keeps a record for a week in case you forget to look. It was about $35. in Canada. It also can be work placed in a pocket which is best for me. I have lost so many that hook to a belt or waist band in the past.

I haven't found a good, simple one yet, but I don't recommend the Bios Card one that London Drugs sells - it's like a bigger credit card but I couldn't get the thing to reset or shutoff. I took it back. I do know from using it the first time that I can walk 2.5 kms in 1/2 an hour so I use that as a guide to how much and how long I am walking.
Still looking for a simple one, the Brother says go to Canadian Tire but I haven't had time yet.

What was the name of the one you bought so we don't get that one?

I am looking for one myself. Once the rainy season is over I am going to start taking walks on the beach with my dog. We both could use the exercise and I could use getting out of the house.

The one that hasn't worked is a Sportline Fitness 360.

Thanks for the recommendations, I will definitely check them out. It's interesting that the Omron works while inside a pocket. My sister in law sells Avon so I can ask her about that one. I'm impressed with your motivation Jean- you're walking more than 5 miles a day and you've been using the same pedometer for 7 years.

I kinda laughed when I saw this post. The best pedometer I've ever had is one I got from the kids' McDonald's Happy Meal years ago, LOL! You turn it on, stick in on your waist band, it registers your steps perfectly, you turn if off. : D Ta daaa!

OK--here's the problem I have with pedometers: they register every step, but they also register motions when sitting at a desk, reaching and other motions. So I register many more steps than I actually walk. Anyone else have this problem?
