My granddaughter's ultimate sign of recovery (1 pic)

Last year my granddaughter's surgeon predicted that her broken legs would heal enough by February to enable her to go snowboarding. He was right!

Six month after her injuries, last night Lizzie was back on the ski slopes with her parents. It was a wonderful milestone in her recovery, and her family and friends were excited! She reports that she did a Black Diamond--which I assume means she navigated a difficult trail on her snowboard. (Skiers can correct me if necessary.)

My thanks to everyone who has cheered Liz on every step of the way!

That is really good news - a remarkable recovery, she must have been diligent with her rehab work. How did she feel after a day on the slopes? At least she had some snow - we've had less than 2" this winter here in the Philly area.

Oh gosh, Susan, that is fantabulous! Sometimes prayers are answered! That is great!

Same here in the western mountains, Maire cate, we have had very little snow. But at least I'm not paying for the road to be plowed!

Lynn, she said the funeral was hard, but I think more emotion was displayed at the viewing (closed casket, I'm guessing), which she didn't attend. Her friends have been very much in evidence, visiting often. I wish I could say the same for me.....this temporary job came at a bad time. I look forward to hanging out with Liz soon. Thanks, everyone!

Congratulations to her. She looks like she is on her way to recovery! True story, my nephew at about 21 years old broke both of his femurs also and is pretty much recovered. His friends and him were all wearing helmet cams while dirt bike riding over some moogles. He crossed a road, went down the ditch and flew back up the side, when his body went up and front legs landed on the handle bars, flipping over foward. The whole incident was recorded and on facebook! Well tonight he was at a family dinner, walking just like it never happened. It took a couple years to get close to normal and I am so happy when I see him safe in good health. Your gdd looks really good next to the bike! Makes me hopeful for her future too.

"Can I ask roughly how old it is and how old it was before it started producing fruit?" Hi Rhonda, I forgot to answer your other question :o)...I had to check my records but I think it started to bloom the second winter after I planted it but unfortunately the freeze nailed them...and this happened at least 2 years in a row so I would say on the 4th year I finally got lucky I only had frost and the blooms survived and had fruits that year...Grafted mango trees can produce fruit as early as the first or second year after planting but its best to let the tree get bigger so it can hold more fruits in the long run...its not always easy to remove the tiny fruitlets when you see them but letting them fruit before its 3rd year is very taxing on the young tree. Found this old picture from winter of 2009...the tree was appx. a little over one and a half years after planting...loaded with its very first blooms ( just a few days before the freeze killed them all) :o(

Thanks, Maire and Lynn! Liz said, "My muscles aren't too happy, but I am." :-)

That was all man-made snow, I'm sure. We've had very little here, too. I'm not complaining....

Liz was truly blessed with a miraculous recovery. I'm sure she worked very hard in therapy, and I'm sure the power of prayer played a huge role also.

Great news and a fast recovery. Youth, I guess. We have had literally NO snow here in south central PA. We had 9 inches in October which destroyed millions of trees, but since then ,nada. It will be 60 this week. I dread summer and the 100 degree temps which might follow this stream of weather.

Great for her! I'm also very glad to see that she is wearing a helmet. Smart girl! DD (skiier) and DSIL (boarder primarily) who live and work at a major ski area are huge proponents of helmet use at all ages. The National Ski Areas Association reports that helmet use is up to 61% on the slopes. The user groups with the highest % are kids and those over 65 (73%). Also just from observation, it appears to me that expert skiers/boarders are more likely to wear helmets at any age, so tell your DGD that the helmet makes her look cool too!
