How long will a pumpkin last without rotting?
Comments (20)I was new to gardening about 7 years ago, prior to that I couldn't even keep a house plant alive!! .....when I did first take a chance at it I started with a variety of flowers it went surprisingly well!!; so I started vegetable gardens then a couple of fruits all went well decided to try my hand at pumpkins for the kids to each have their own to carve that I grew for them, the first year I grew my pumpkins, they were just standard jack o' lantern pumpkins and Jack b lil pumpkins they lasted for two years inside our house in Maine that's heated to a average temp range of 76f-84f last year i decide to try my hand at white pumpkins and they grew well I brought my last one inside in mid october of 2021 and here we are April of 2022 and it's still hard as a rock and looks like brand new!!! Guess I have a magic pumpkin too!! I'm keeping it til it actually rots.. if that even happens! I'm beginning to think it may not!!...See Morefrost protection with candles
Comments (6)I don't like kerosene lanterns because they really are too hot causing the heat to rise in a column instead of radiating and heating a large volume of air just a little. The concept of smudge pots was to create rising air which would in turn cause air to flow through the citus, not to directly heat the air, which is why they really don't work. Kerosene lanterns are also harder to work with, and much more of a fire hazard. I use a standard punch, making each hole about the size of a pea. You can stick a short 2x4 piece of lumber in the can to keep it from bending while you punch it....See MoreCandle scent longevity?
Comments (2)A good candle will not lose its fragrance. It (the candle color) may fade, but the fragrance is an oil and oil will not evaporate from the wax. Exposure to sunlight seems to do the most damage to fragrance. I have had some candles that were three years old and when I finally lit them, they still had a wonderful fragrance. Cheap candles are a different matter. For one, the heaviest concentration of fragrance is in the top overpour. The rest of the candle is very lightly scented. That's why a cheap candle might smell terrific in the store, but when you get it home and after you have burned it for a bit, it will have nearly no fragrance. (I have a friend who works in a candle factory and that's how they do it.) It has been my experience with cheap (i.e. Dollar Store, some Wal-Mart candles, etc.) candles that after sitting for a few months they do lose their fragrance. But, they are not made with high quality, concentrated oils to begin with. Anyway, don't throw them out- they should still be good! Susan...See MoreFlameless Pillar Candles ~ any nice ones?
Comments (15)Since you're wondering which candles are nice, I'll mention some that were a disappointment to me. I bought a large pack at Costco a year ago, intending to use the votives in glassybabys (gorgeous handmade glass holders made here in Seattle). Their light was very yellow and was not bright enough to illuminate the multi-layered glass vessels. Since it was Costco I was able to return them without a problem. This year's stock is probably very different, so my experience may not be relevant...See Morettodd
