Candles Warm the Winter Home
Add the romantic glow of candlelight to your dining room, bath, hearth or patio
Fall and winter months mean dark evenings and the need for a little more light indoors. This season, create a glowing atmosphere with candles. They are forever chic and complement any design scheme; even one inexpensive candle can transform a room with its flickering light. If you’re wondering about different ways to infuse your space with candles, check out the following photos. Until the sunlight returns, their radiance is sure to create the perfect winter setting.
You probably spend much time in your home’s eating area, whether for nightly dinners or holiday get-togethers. You’ll want to make sure this space is well-lit, and candles are just the trick. Create your own chandelier by hanging a wire basket filled with candles. Depending on the candle you choose, you may want to place a tray along the bottom of the basket to prevent wax from dripping.
If you already have a light fixture above your table, consider lining your sideboard or buffet table with groups of candles. If you place a mirror behind them, you can double the soft glow dancing around the room.
Group a variety of candles together for a simple centerpiece both chic and functional.
There’s no better place to relax after a long day than the bathtub. A wall of candles will result in a relaxing vibe and enough light to catch up on your favorite magazines.
Don’t have shelves near your bath? No worries: a line of candles will work just as well.
Place one singular candle on your bathroom’s vanity to enjoy while you're in the tub or shower.
Books and knickknacks are the usual props for shelves, but what about a slew of candles? Come nighttime, this living room will be adequately lit and incredibly cozy.
Place candles in hurricanes on your coffee table. This is an easy solution for adding extra candlelight to your space, and a flame enclosed in a hurricane makes it much safer when placed in the middle of a traffic zone.
Have a beautiful piece of artwork above your mantle? Highlight it while adding extra light to your living room with a row of candles.
Maybe your fireplace can’t support a log fire, but that doesn’t mean the space won’t be just as beautiful when outfitted with candles. Besides, you’ll still achieve the warm glow without having to chop a pile of logs.
If you’re lucky enough to be in a warmer climate where you can still spend a few nights on the porch, light the way with candles. Work them into your table’s centerpiece as well as lining the floor or walls. Candlelight is more appealing and less expensive than installing outdoor lights.
Because candles come in so many different heights, sizes and colors, they’re the perfect objects for vignettes. Have a console that could use a little something extra? Group together an assortment of candles for an artful display that will also light the hallway.
Need a little extra light for a seating nook? Can’t beat two perfectly placed candles. They’ll provide just enough light while turning a base of books into a vignette.
