Real candle version of RH's 'Pillar Candle Chandelier'?
Comments (2)Forty candles! Wow! That was probably fine in the 18th and 19th centuries when homes and concert halls were wide open and drafty. But in a well sealed 21st century home, it could mean significant odor, degradation of the air quality in the room, and soot stains on the ceiling. Part of the problem is that today's candles often aren't very good. At least around here, most of the big candles I find are either one-of-a-kind hand-made items, or else they're cheap imports, usually from China. The latter often don't burn well (lousy wicks) or cleanly (impure wax). The former are quite pricey and sometimes don't burn much cleaner. With that caveat out of the way, it looks like a pretty simple chandelier to make. If you don't have the tools and/or time, I'd suggest visiting a renaissance fair or craft festival in your area, and making contact with an ironworker who accepts commissions. Hope this helps!...See MorePillar Candles
Comments (4)If there is a good craft store in your area (such as Michael's, A.C. Moore or Pearl Paint) you should be able to get the materials you need. You will need a candle mold (They make them in the shape you want), some wicking, some parrafin wax and a pot to melt it in. Parrafin wax is white, so you just have to melt it and not add any scent ot color. One hint- As wax hardens, it contracts. This will leave an indent in the candle, around the wick. If this bothers you, melt a little more wax, to fill it n, after it sets. I hope this helps....See MoreLast question - do any of these candles work w/rustic mantle?
Comments (11)busybee and bcb - I think you're probably right, my mantel is higher than most and there's not much room between it and the ceiling. I love the birch pillars and they're a much less expensive than the PB candlesticks. They'd probably give me the rustic look and also stand out better aganst the stone. bcb - thank you! They're real stone veneers. We just remodeled the fireplace and used the ledge rock to cover ugly cinderblocks. I think this is one of my favorite results from the remodel. We used the same ledge rock outside for exterior hardscape. It came in single pieces and took our stone mason FOREVER to install on the fireplace because we didn't want him to cut the ends like we did for the exterior. Our kitchen floor is basically the same slate but in 16" slate tiles. It has a lot of variation of color and hides dirt and brown lab hair very well!...See Moreflameless window candlesticks: best brands?
Comments (55)I had the plug-in models with short cords years ago and gave up on them! Running around with all those extension cords and plugging them in every night was a nuisance. But I missed the look. After reading this thread earlier in the week I ordered the battery candles with timer. The online description said on for 8 hours, but the directions in the box say on for only 6 hours. No matter, 5:30 to 11:30 will be good enough I think. Hopefully these will last longer than the old battery ones used to. The suction cups on rings didn't work on my windows as the glass is too far from where the candle sits. I put tape on either side of the base to the window sill. They are heavier than the old style though and sit more stable. I learn so many things reading this site it's unbelievable! No wonder people ask just about anything on here....See Morefunkyart
