LG Frontloader - hole in clothes

I have a Lg frontloader washer (the least expensive) and I'm finding pin holes in my t-shirt type clothes. Any one else have this problem? It's over a year old....can I do anything about it? Thanks for your help.

What other items are in a typical load when the holes occur? If anything with zippers, such as jeans or slacks or pants or casual shorts, zip them up and fasten the buttons before washing to protect other items from abrasive exposure to the zipper. Just an idea ...

We purchased a Samsung VRT front loader and have had no problems so far for about 6 or 7 years. We got it from Sears and when the 5 year warrantee expired I purchased another 3 year plan. Unlike others here at GW we have had good luck with service from our local sears. When I thought there was something wrong with the soap dispenser of our washer they sent a new one right away. Turned out not to be a problem, just a design that didn't make sense. Our Kenmore refrigerator got routine service annually under warrantee and all has been well. That unit is about 9 years old and I only had to replace a dispenser tray in the ice maker not under warrantee, so I found a local repair shop that would install a new one I bought at Amazon for less than their wholesale cost. I have no experience with LG but the only products that have had mostly positive reviews is their refrigerator. To bad too because some of their stuff looks so sexy.

Listening to all these comments I just want to scream. We have a Whirlpool Cabrio top loader which is fairly new. I noticed the water levels stay pretty low and the spin cycle did not always work at first since we moved in here and just got in this unit.. Sometimes I would put it on a second rinse to get the water out. The washer has corrected itself now and releases all the water however, it appears that everything I wash is pilling no matter what fabric whether it be towels shirts pants socks underwear or separately or together everything is pilling. Zippers and buttons are not any obstacles they have never caused a problem before and they aren't now. Nothing is snagging it. At this rate I will be losing all of my clothing if it keeps on. Most of these clothes I have had for a few years and they always wash up nice they never pill some of these clothes are brand new and pill after just a few Washings.. So my opinion is that these washing machines that supposed to be so modernized are ruining our clothes with the different Cycles in the process that the machine uses to wash the clothes I absolutely hate it. And we the customer, are suffering by buying an item that is useless and ruining our clothes.. in my opinion the general public should not have to go through this crazy task of trying to figure out what is causing this issue I feel it is a manufacturer problem something to do with the way these machines operate and we are stuck with it I'm ready to go buy an old fashioned washer that I know it's going to clean my clothes and not put me through such stress. Any repairman out there or anybody that has figured this out please help!!!! This machine worked in the beginning. I don't think it has to do with detergents, softeners, load limits, water level..... I truly believe it's poor quality workmanship in these machines that triggers this.

julescap, I may be the Soaking Queen here, lol. So I won't discourage you from soaking your laundry. I soaked laundry for years in a traditional washer, just filled up the washer with laundry, clothes, and detergent and let it agitate a few minutes before stopping the washer. That was easy and effective. Using that much water, I could use some Clorox when soaking white cottons, and never had a problem. With an HE washer (I have an HE TL too), though, it's very different because it uses so much less water. Clorox is definitely harsher in less water, at least in my experience with an HE washer. With this washer, my white cottons come out just as white when I soak them in true HOT water (my washer has an internal heater), Tide powder with bleach (non-chlorine), and OxyClean. I follow the same routine of loading the washer, dosing detergent and OsyClean, let it wash a few minutes, then press Pause. If the laundry is really grungy (like my dh's and ds's sports, outdoors hobby and work clothes), I sometimes let them soak all night with no problem at all. Another poster who used to post quite regularly said she got great results from soaking, too -- she was quite the advocate. But I haven't seen her posting in some time. Wow, so many theories! I also have had 4 tops purchased at a local boutique, and very expensive. All of them had pin holes, either before or after I washed them on delicate in mesh bags. And, all of the pin holes or larger are located at the bottom area or around or under the belly area. I am clueless. The fabrics are mostly cotton, very thin fabric. One brand name is, XCVI and the other is Free People. So, we are talking anywhere from $58 to $65 for a stylish very thin summer top. I have returned 2 XCVI tops and will be returning another one today as well as the Free People top. I cannot see wearing something once and washing it on delicate and in a laundry bag in a front loading newer washer and resulting in having holes. I don't wear a belt or lean on the counter when I wash dishes. As far as laundry detergent, I usually use Tide and have used it for several years. I am baffled and bummed out, I love this one top. But, seriously, I do feel that the fabric is cheaply made or this problem of pin holes would not occur. We live in Northern CA and do not have bugs in the house. My boyfriends $5 Walmart T Shirts do not have holes! And, I pay like 10 to 15 times more for mine and they do.... This is just crazy. I will purchase new laundry detergent today, in the event that may be a deterrent. But, I believe it is the fabric being thinner and doesn't wear well. This may be coupled with the fact the manufacturers wish to have us replace clothing like everything else in our disposable world!

dadoes, I wash jeans with jeans,,,,,but dress pants??? well maybe I'll keep those separate too.
And premier! LOL....I wish I'd read about those belly button mites before I bought this darn front loader. I do love that I can wash alot more clothes, but getting a hole in my daughters Ambercrombie t-shirt ticks me off!!
Any other ideas appreciated.

There are two threads on these mysterious holes. Most people mentioned holes in t-shirts. No consensus on what causes them. Where are the holes located? Did it ever happen on anything else?

Did the t-shirt have a stain in that area or did it ever have a stain in that area? I wonder if some of these holes are the result of some chemical or stain and then spot treater being used which then weakens the fabric in the area. In the other threads, people said they were wearing the t-shirt and all of a sudden while wearing it, the holes appeared.

I have a LG FL and never had mysterious holes. Never had them in my old TL.

Hmmm There isn't a stain on them and they do tend to be around the middle.....I just found one in one of my t-shirt type shirt. And my daughters clothes haven't been worn all that often then I find them....It is mysterious. I usually use Tide HE or Purex detergent. Not liquid. If the detergents not HE or even if it is, I do use less than the amount stated. Perhaps I should only use the liquid, but if I do that I can't use the pre-wash. Since they both have to be detergent.

around the middle...belly button mites.

Do you find them as soon as they come out of the washer? Some people claim to find them when they take them out of the draw.

I don't believe it is your detergent or powder vs liquid.

Don't know which LG you have but on my LG TROMM Steam I can use the prewash and use either powder or liquid in the prewash and regular wash. And they don't have to be the same.

joyful grower (wow, what a name) - my exp[erience with laundry would lead me to believe that the holes in your clothes can be caused by any of the following:

1. fragile, worn, or inferior quality fabric
2. too high a spin speed
3. washing together with exposed zippers
4. overloading the washer
5. damaged washer drum
6. too much bleach

any or a combination of these may be the culprit.

Why thank you cyberspacer! I have tried using a lower spin cycle, medium, maybe I should go even lower. I'm now starting to watch that I don't put in dress pants with them. I may overload the washer......but how do you know when it's too much? LOL.. I don't use bleach...
