Theatre Party Friday Night :-)

Hi everyone,

The party for our one fellow theatre member is this Friday night. I am going to make broccoli salad for the occasion. I made it last year for a cast party and it was a smash! I don't know about taking a beverage to share, but, I will find out today at some point. Oh, and I finally decided on my costume. I am going to go as Linus Van Pelt :-).

Here is the recipe again for the salad. I'm going to double it.

Broccoli Salad

1 head broccoli.
8 oz. bacon
8 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 med. onion, chopped
1 c. salad dressing (as in Miracle Whip)
1/2 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. vinegar

Fry bacon crisp. Cut up broccoli into pieces. Mix salad dressing, sugar, and vinegar. Add to onion, bacon, cheese, and broccoli.

Brad, I'm not a fan of salads, but that salad sounds like one that I would like.

I knew her name meant star, but I wasn't sure of the national origin. Thank you, everyone for the compliments! She was actually fairly easy to put together. Wig was from Wal-Mart (one that can be styled!), headscarf was one I already had from Goodwill, skirt was from Goodwill. I wore spiderweb tights from Wal-Mart (gonna have to keep those for a future witch or spider queen costume). Jewelry was a mix of what I had and bought some others in town (that black and rainbow bead bracelet was from Rite Aid!). Coin belt was from Wally World. Earrings from there, too. The vest was one a friend gave me and it's my favorite shade of pink (dusty rose). I just glued star sequins to it. The shawl was one I made and also wore when I went as Stevie Nicks. My skirt has little bells on the drawstring. I saw that at Goodwill and I had to have it! :) Here I am with two lady friends of mine as Harry Potter and Fred Flintstone (her husband dressed up as Wilma, LOL!). The dog belongs to our light man and our costume mistress (Keith and Jeanne). His name is Mr. Bates. Here, you can also see my skirt and some scarves tied around my waist. The pink one is sequined and the black one has multicolored sparkles on it (it's tulle). Look at the shoes ;). Yes, they're the same ones I've worn for every costume since 2013 (save for my Stevie Nicks costume in 2017). Brad AKA Moonwolf

I had temporarily forgotten about this song, definitely about Space: When I saw Human League at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco circa 1981, English tourists had bought most of the tickets and so many locals were unable to attend, since the theater is not that large. The English tourists were also very animated and danced in front of their seats during most of the concert instead of sitting, and so I had to stand up to see the stage, and I had a very good seat. All seats were reserved, and so people had to stay in their reserved spaces. I found the group a bit arrogant in their attitude toward the audience, and they said they were shocked when they walked the streets in New York and no one recognized them. They were appreciated in San Francisco but not idolized the way they were in England, and this was a disappointment for them.

A cool bit of trivial for the MASH theme, Suicide is Painless, that I learned from Wiki a few years ago. The film's director, Robert Altman, tried to write a lyric to go with the Johnny Mandel music but got stuck. He asked his teenage son to give it a crack and he came up with something in less than 10 minutes. The second interesting tidbit about this is that his son made more money from his share of the writing royalties from use and sales than Dad made from directing the movie.

Ann T, you're welcome! I haven't made it in a while, so I thought I would make it again and not use the oven since it's been very hot here lately.

dcarch, lol Linus would have a nervous breakdown if his blanket was sent to the dry cleaner's. I've loved the Peanuts gang ever since I was little, so I can't wait to wear my costume.

Brad, that was always a favorite side dish in my house, my girls used to argue over the last bit, they liked it better after it sat for a day. It's hot here too, and I think that's a very good choice.

Annie, your girls would like this batch when I serve it lol. I'll be making it the day before, so it'll have time to get all the flavors combined. Luckily, the party's indoors and even then, it'll be in the evening, so, I hope no one wears nothing too warm. Oh, and it'll be just the broccoli salad I'm taking, and no beverage, which is fine! :-)

I got the ingredients this evening to make the salad. I'm going to be a little different and use one head of broccoli and one head of cauliflower. I have seen recipes for broccoli and cauliflower salad, so I hope this turns out well. I'm also using one 8 oz. bag of sharp Cheddar and another 8 oz. bag of mild Cheddar.
