After weeks of planning a renovation of our old kitchen, I think I have given up and broken over for a total gutting. Or perhaps I should say we have decided to look at the cost of gutting.

I had the Kitchen God over yesterday and he and his KD promise a new design in two weeks. But they are already moving all my appliances around in their own minds and making me want to hurl from nerves. Oh, and I think I have chosen the world's gaudiest countertop. It will be either one hell of a design coup, or a flaming red disaster. I blame a2gemini for getting me started on Cambria. Actually, I blame her and oldbat for a lot of things, now I think on it . . .

Anyhoo, I want to thank everyone who has so patiently answered my many questions, and to apologize in advance for asking a whole new set of questions. No, I do not have multiple personality disorder, or more than one kitchen . . . .;-)

I hope that everyone enjoys their kitchens this weekend.

I didn't know anything in the Cambria line could qualify as, "one hell of a design coup, or a flaming red disaster." Wait, you didn't choose Pink Princess, did you?

Oh! How exciting! We are also doing a total redo of our kitchen and using Cambria though I haven't exactly decided which color. Cannot wait to see yours with the Cardigan Red (???) counters!

Oh my goodness, that is wonderful news about little lambykin Ben. Sure is a scary bout you guys have had. None of that other stuff that has happened has even come close to this, huh? Yep, when our children are involved, it goes to a whole nuther level! Do you guys know how blessed Little Ben is to have you two wonderful parents?? You guys are angels to endure everything you have went through and still come out with your great attitude. Yes, these things shall pass, I love that attitude, Kirk and remember, if that mountain was smooth, we'd never learn to climb closer to our God. Thank God for the Dr.'s who know how to treat those little darlings like Ben. I am soooo happy he is doing better, be sure to show him all his little pictures on this post,I know he loves them! Wish I could send one, my computer wont let them go through for some reason. Kudzu, sounds like you have your hands full, woman. Hard enough to get around with your injury and then to take care of a sweet lil grandson is hard. You are so lucky to have your big hunky Hossfly, he is a real blessing to you and I know he has probably waited on you hand and foot. Glad your GS got to spend a little time outside and enjoy himself, he'll just have to take it slow. Tanya, last, but NEVER the least, my heart goes out to you for everything you are going through with your mom. I am lifting you both up in my prayers for a powerful, powerful healing and strength and peace of mind that will bring you both back to a happy peaceful life. God is good, and just waiting on us to call his name. Not only do we need him for everything, He needs us to love him back. And that's what so many of us do here is love him back by prayer, faith and worshipping him. God Bless you all, I love you so much. Now, I better get down from my pulpit, I feel like I'm gonna have a good ole Pentecostal runaway,(yep, born and raised in one!) with all of the prayers that everyone has asked us to pray, because, DON'T YOU KNOW, it is an HONOR and a BLESSING to pray for someone. " I also found out Trane bought American Standard. " The rest of the story. I may be off by a few months, but here I go. Am Std got out of HVAC in the 1960's. Trane made ac units no one bought. GE was big player in HVAC. Trane bought GE hvac division (not counting ge ptacs) in 1983. American Standard (the bath and kithcen guys) bought Trane in 1984 and began producing the Am Std ac equipment in 1986 which was virtually identical to the Trane products. In 2008, Am Std corporate spins off WABCO in public offering and later that year sells the Kitchen/Bath division to a private equity firm (European based) but Am Std retains rights to the name for hvac use. That leaves only hvac products @ Am Std (under the Trane/Am Std name). Later that year, November 2008 I believe, announce they are changing their name to TRANE and also changing their ticker symbol on NYSE. About 30 days later, Ingersol Rand announces they will be buying Trane. Trane/Am Std is owned by Ingersol Rand. Not that anyone really cares.

Six weeks ago, one of our local police officers was gunned down and died after arriving at the hospital. It was simply a routine traffic stop in the wee hours of the morning. We are a small town in Central Mass. 42-year old father of three and just an all-round wonderful person, so well-liked. The perpetrator was caught and killed in a face-off with police, local, city and federal. He was out on bail for former crime, with a long history of offenses. It devastated our town and the entire area. And "bringing him home" (from Boston's med.examiner) was the same phrase used, which definitely is heart-breaking, as was watching the police escort through town . I still cry.

Lascatx, that’s the problem I had! The colors really aren’t represented well on the screen! I’m finding that this Sage is like SW Sea Salt in that depending on the lighting, it can appear as a different color. Tan w/green undertones when it’s in the shade and a more vibrant olivey green when it’s in the sun. In person, the blue (SW Moody Blue) on the door and shutters is really close to the screen if not spot on. My DD & SIL were here and noticed the shutters right away but didn’t notice the house! That was suprising! They like the blue too as well as the sage. So it’s all good! Money well spent! :c)

See, that's not as bad as Cardigan Red! And I actually think CR could look great in a kitchen when used properly. We have Buckingham in our main floor bathroom. It has a similar feel to the Shirebrook. I think you'll love it! Don't shy away.

(We also put in Welshpool Black in our kitchen about 10 years ago when we did a mini-upgrade - counters and appliances. I love Cambria!)

Angie and a2gemini, I think I will go with a nearly solid backsplash in the Grazie Rixi crema -- the rich cream-colored shade. For just the slightest accent, I might run a little line jewel like tile -- as a2gemini did -- near the bottom.

I have this glass tile, very plain mosaic in a dark brownish-burgundy that the KD ooh-aahed over. And that's all Shirebrook can take, I think. Cream perimeter cabs. Yes, send kitchen prayers to me! LOL. I do love my saturated colors and hope to be buried in a dark red casket.

Thank you, remodelfla, for posting that pic. It is pretty representative of what the Shirebrook slabs look like. However, I think that backsplash was a bit of a mistake, IMHO.

Below is another picture of Shirebrook, but it really does not show as bold as it is in real life. Still, beautiful, I think. And those cabinet colors are about what I'll be choosing.

Anyhoo, I needed something to unify our uber-traditional family room with the kitchen -- red oriental rug and brown-red Chesterfield sofa, etc, and this will do it, I hope.

The pic you posted puts me in the mind of Van Gogh (the actual painter not the other countertop). It is lovely. A quiet backsplash and it will be perfection. It actually makes me think of oysters embedded into the stone. I love the organicness (my word) of oysters and very kitchen appropriate!
