ASKO Multi-housing Washer/dryer (ventless)

hello All,

We have a few vacation rental units, with tight spaces and regular plumbing drains and we are interested in hearing from those of you you may have installed and are currently using such a unit. How well does it work? Any problems to report?

joelle: Those units look very much like the ones that we installed recently, W6222 washer and T712 dryer. Since the write-up mentions rental use, I assume that some features may have been eliminated to save costs, but you'd have to do a comparison to be sure. One cosmetic difference is that my washer has an outer, drop-down door in addition to the inner glass door. It's just for looks, I guess, since you can leave it open and watch the exciting action inside the washer. We are very happy with these machines, and I would recommend them. I'm not sure what you mean by regular plumbing drains. Do you have laundry machines installed at these locations already? If not, you will need to talk to your plumber and electrician for codes, etc. Note that the washer is 220v, and plugs into the dryer. So you only need one 220v, but it has to be 30 amp, if I recall. Also, your title says "ventless" so I assume you mean the condensation dryer, which is available in that model. We have a vented dryer, so I don't have first-hand experience with the condensation model. From the posts on this forum, many (some?) people don't like condensation dryers, but some do. If you can vent the dryer in some or all of you locations, you might want to consider it, because I imagine that drying times would be quicker. The Asko vented dryers can be vented from the rear or either side, which is a plus as far as flexibility of installation.

Thank you for your response and sorry for the late follow up. Some features have been eliminated on these machines to facilitates guests use (we are in the vacation rental business) without compromise quality of washing/drying.
These particular machines are sold to condos who were not built with W/D setups, so you can actually use regular plumbing for your washer instead of a different type of plumbing stack made to sustain Washers on each floor. The flow is the same as a dishwasher. We are not able to vent the dryer as we are further than 15 feet from an outside wall (code requirement), so the ventless dryer makes sense in our case. Also the condensation dryer attaches to the drain so there is nothing to empty (like in some dryers in europe) after each use. Are you happy with the load size of yours? it looks similar to this one which says that you can wash 14 bathtowels at once.

The LG's woes result from it running on 120v/15a power, which gives it access to only 1800 watts, compared to the 7200 watts available to a conventional 240v/30a electric dryer. This causes the LG 27"w washer/dryer to take a long time to heat the water in the wash cycle, than even longer to dry the clothes afterward. The only 240v washer/dryer combo available in the US is the Fagor FAS-3612 and FAS-3612X which are excellent (and have a $100 rebate through the end of June), but being 24"w and 24"d they don't hold nearly as much laundry as LG's 27" W/D combo, although it will get your clothes clean substantially faster. There are a several ventless 240v dryers from major brands available, though all that are currently available are 24"w. General Electric, Bosch, LG, Miele, Asko, and Fagor all make at least one. Some of these dump the condensed water down the same drain as your washer (I think all offer this capability, but check to be sure), but some others have the option of collecting the water in a built-in tank that must be periodicaly emptied, which, though less convenient, is essential if you can't place the dryer near a drain. You can pair these dryers with any washer, though only one from the same brand can be attached for stacking directly underneath it, and you'll want to avoid a washer with much larger capacity than your dryer, or any washer that doesn't have a high spin speed (the ventless dryer needs all the help it can get). If you scour eBay, craigslist, and the like, you may, once in a very blue moon, come across a used full-size Frigidaire Filtrator ventless dryer. These are hard to come by now, and there is so much pent-up demand for full-size ventless dryers that they typically sell for much more than a new dryer costs. If appliance manufacturers were more astute than they are, someone would take notice of this and reintroduce full-size ventless dryers, which are so obviously still in demand.

Anyone out there have this ?. I'm buying a stackable Asko ventless washer/dryer. How often should container in back of dryer be emptied ? And how often should I clean the filter on the front of the machine..so different from the ordinary dryer filter.....It looks very different....You have to unscrew two screws, and it's a large plastic thing...I think you run it under water to clean.....Of course I'm thinking that the sink will get clogged....Just want to make sure that I clean correctly.

I think GE has one too. Spanish manufactuer Fagor sells a ventless dryer and a decent-capacity 240v washer. If the LG 24" combination washer/dryer can have an LG ventless dryer stacked on it, that would be a convenient setup - you can have the washer do the whole job when you have smaller laundry loads, and need to use the separate dryer only when you have lots of clothes and not much time. Otherwise, I'd go with Bosch for its good capacity and fast water heating thanks to its 240 volt power supply (the washer plugs into an outlet on the dryer, and the dryer plugs into the 240V wall outlet and powers both machines). Asko worth a look too. Miele is best quality but expensive and the washer is 120v so it will be slower.

Here's the installation location--yesterday, after I finished closing up the walls from our previous bathroom remodels, I began to envision a design which would extend the aesthetic cues from our Ikea Abstrakt-clad kitchen (to right--not shown) into the laundry area as well. This will really enhance the continuity and flow of the adjacent kitchen, and the compact washer/dryer units will really help to enlargen the space since their smaller form factor will now accommodate 7.5' linear feet of additional countertop-height surface area. [Apparently, no one makes a 24" gas dryer, so I'll have to remove some of the cement board I just installed, and wire-up a 240V supply for our planned installation of the Asko T784 electric dryer.] We're replacing our seven-year old, standard-sized LG machines (below) with new 24" Asko units for a built-in look. Ikea Abstrakt high-gloss white upper and base cabinets will accompany the new lower-profile, and slimmer, washer/dryer units. A white/aluminum-trimmed counter-top will finish off the surface. joelle, We're happy with the load size, BUT we also have full size (older) machines in the basement. We haven't tested the Askos with 14 bathtowels, and frankly I'd be a bit skeptical about that. But maybe it would work. Our washer has a 1200 RPM spin, which gets the clothes pretty dry before you even have to put them in the dryer. You might check to see if the rental machine has the same. Generally, I would think that the Askos would be fine for vacation rentals, provided the cleaning crew is not using them to do linens for multiple units, etc. Also keep in mind the longer cycle times for front-loading machines.
