Need cleaning tips for my Asko washer
Comments (19)Sorry sshrivastava, I have been checking back for responses on another post in this forum, but not this one. Thanks for your tips. I have just received my box of Bi-O-Kleen over the weekend and have done maybe 4 loads of laundry so far. My problem now is that the detergent doesn't completely rinse out of the dispenser and the Asko manual doesn't recommend that you use any detergent that doesn't completely rinse out. So I posted a question and someone responded about residual moisture in the drawer and drying it out before putting in the powder. I still have some clumpy powder, but it seems to be getting less. I have increased the temperature for my washes and now wash my daughter's clothes on the normal cycle at 120 degrees and mine and my husbands clothes at 140. The towels and sheets usually get a 160 or 175 degree washing. There aren't a lot of stains on the adult clothes (colors anyway) to notice a huge difference, so I'm really waiting to see how the whites come out after a couple of washes with the Bi-O-Kleen premium! Thanks for all of your tips!...See MoreAm I crazy for considering an Asko w6222 or a Miele w1986 washer?
Comments (5)Have you done the "weigh your current load" test? I'm sure the 1986 will handle loads up to 13 lbs/6 kilos, and I expect the Asko would, too. Take your current laundry (dry) and weigh a typical load (subtract weight of basket, of course). If you're currently doing less 13 lbs (6K) in each load, you will do no more loads than you are currently doing. The extremely long Euro-style cycle is not really an issue with a 1986 since it has the shorter cycle as the default; you can choose long cycles for unusually serious cleaning. I believe it also has a time delay feature which means you can program a load to finish as you wake, and run the dryer while getting ready to go out. And then start a load timed to finish when you return and are ready to flip it to the dryer. I am not as familiar with the features of the Asko model you have mentioned - mine are older, without the delay cycle, but with generally shorter cycles than the typical long Euro cycle in older Mieles. One of the reasons I think some of the Euro FLs have decided to "dumb down" their machines is because they could never persuade people to really believe in how much can be handled in these dishwasher-sized carcasses. Apparently even your salesman is still confused. Both of these machines a true horizonatal axis machines which means they don't lose any space due to a tilted drum like just about every other brand model out there, from the similar sized Sears machines to the fancy Asian behemoths. If had to replace any of my machines I would go to enormous trouble to find a Miele 1918 or 1986 because of its reliablity and superior washing characteristics. The heaters on those machines are simply far and away better than what you can buy today. And with kids having that heater will give you many more options for stain removal, without harsh chemicals. From your user name, you sound like you're in French-speaking Canada. Dare I hope that I might easily find a 1986 up there? I am in northern NY, and my regional Miele sales rep recently told me that no more 1918 or 1986s are available anywhere in his territory. But a trip to Canada would not be out of the question. Don't worry, I'm not trying to beat you out of the machine you found! Truly, do the laundry weighing test and see what you learn. HTH, Molly~...See MoreAsko Washers & Dryers - Part 4
Comments (144)When I was in the market to replace our washer/dryer some 4-years ago, I found the GardenWeb forums to be the most informative source on the subject. Based on what I read here then, I purchased an Asko washer and dryer. This was shortly after Asko had introduced the longer warranty. I have decided to repay my debt of gratitude by providing this 4-year progress report for the benefit other shoppers. In short, we are extremely pleased with both Asko units. Mine are the equivalent to the current low-end models (button and knob controls). We have the dryer mounted on top of the washer and have had zero problems over 4 years. There is only one relatively minor annoyance with the washer. My S.O. insists on using liquid softener which results in a gooey dark organic substance growing in the soap dispenser tray. Ours is a typical plywood-on-joist floor construction but we have never felt any vibrations from the spin cycle. In fact, it never ceases to amaze me whenever I have an opportunity to witness the well-engineered shock-absorption suspension handle out-of-balance loads at the beginning of the rinse/spin cycle. Many question the tub capacity. I'd venture to say if you can stuff it in there, it will wash it just fine. We do queen-sized comforters with no problems. We have always used Tide HE powder, FWIW (only HE we can find in Boise). The dryer continues to work fine despite the fluke, four or five months ago, of having had a tennis shoe fold over and become wedged between the inner door lip and a drum paddle, causing the dryer to cease functioning. When I came home and pried the shoe out, I was amazed that the dryer seemed to have reset itself and has been performing flawlessly ever since. All in all, Asko gets my enthusiastic vote of confidence. The increased versatility of on-board water heater and 1,200 RPM spin, plus the reduced water usage (we are on well and septic system) makes it one of the brighter and more satisfying purchases I have ever made. Should also mention that we recognize the cleaning ability to be quite superior to the old top-loader it replaced. Dave...See MoreWhite/white/white kitchen refresh FINISHED
Comments (85)Hi island. Our banquette was built (several years ago) by the same guy who did our cabinets. There is no back on it ... just loose pillows, which we sort of toss around depending on how many people are actually sitting on it. It does have storage. There are sliding doors on the long front of it (this is not easy storage to access but it's for the cookbooks I pull out once a year, etc.) and a "morgue" drawer that comes out from the end (where we keep all the dog leashes, collars, etc. Super handy storage!). I will take some measurements tonight or tomorrow for you, but I recall that the seat is about 19" tall after the cushion is on. I made the cushion extra thick, 4 inches, and raised it up a little because I prefer to sit a little higher at a table. The chairs came with the house and I sort of painted them on a whim. I used Annie Sloan's chalk paint, which was OK, although I'm not sure it was any better than any other kind of paint, other than not having to prime them first. They do seem to be wearing well though. Hope that helps for now. More to follow....See Morestudio460
