Ventless Stackable washer/dryer?

It appears that there are only a few makers of stackable washer dryers with ventless dryers - Bosch and LG? I've read some reviews about the Bosch, which most people seem to like, but what about the LG? Anyone have any experience with the LG?

The one that runs circles of any of these brands is Miele. The dryer dries with the lowest amount of humidity output for the unit. Overall it does a great job with all the other features/quality this company normally offers.

Thanks, cyberspacer. I hadn't heard about the Miele. But I love the Miele vaccuum cleaner we have, which I feel is made better than any other appliance we own. So I will certainly look into the Miele washer and ventless dryers. Appreciate your feedback.

LG's WM3987 is the only full-size (27"w) combo W/D sold in the U.S.; fortunately it's a good one, (4.2 cu.ft. capacity, 1200 RPM spin, heats water up to 158F, has separate prewash/main wash/fabric softener/bleach dispensers). Several manufacturers sell shallower 24"w washer/dryers, but LG's WM3455 is probably the best, although it's rather pricey. It has 2.7 cu.ft. capacity, 1300 rpm spin, heats water to 158F, though lacks a separate bleach compartment. Looks to have a big door opening for a compact washer, though I haven't seen one IRL. Both of these run on 120V/15A, which means slow water heating and even slower drying, but also that it will plug into your apartment's nearby outlet if it isn't wired for 240V and may be advantageous if you're not allowed to add a 240V circuit. Fagor's FAS 3612 is a considerably less expensive choice, and faster because it runs on 240v power. Asko seems to have dropped their combo W/D, and the Eurotech clone thereof isn't sold anymore either. These had a poor rep for reliability anyway; they were made by a different branch of the company than other Asko laundry machines. Avoid anything that doesn't heat the wash water.

I wouldn't buy an all in one. What if you wash something and a stain is still there. I wouldn't want it to be dryed. I would want to rewash it. A dryer drum should be much larger than a washer's...almost 2x. I have heard of people filling up the drum and then the dry time took forever because the drum wasn't big enough for all the clothes put in. I also don't feel that the all in ones are meant for a heavy amount of laundry. I would get stackables. You should have more to choose from with more options and a wider range of prices. The all in ones are very limited in choice.

I've owned all 3: Asko, Bosch and Miele. My order of preference for performance is: Miele Bosch Asko If you need a slightly larger tub or cost is an issue Bosch Miele Asko The high wash temperature on the Asko is a selling point but much less relevant when you get it home. Miele's 165F is sufficiently hot for super effective stain removal. Bosch's hot water isn't as hot as Miele or Asko. For general laundry Bosch does a great job. If you are concerned with whites -- i.e. whitening old linens, stain removal then Miele and Asko have the long profile wash (cold prewash + super hot wash) for that. Miele has the best woolens cycle by far and the most cycle options but comes with a learning curve. I preferred the Bosch condenser dryer to both the Miele or Asko vented dryers.

Wow! That laundry room on page 19 I would love that! It is too bad they didn't mention the GE brand as it has a vented dryer and because if you look at its ratings on Home Depot and Lowes you'll find that it is very well rated and it's about the same price as the Electrolux both of which are much less then the Bosch, Asko, Miele group. (Can you tell I like my GE vented dryer (the vent is about 1 foot long)?) I cannot guess at the insides of the Miele dryer but to me the main issue with the new fire code is that you use ducting that is also fire resistant, no more plastic ducting. You still have to keep the entire run clear and if the run is too long you really should be looking at a condenser type dryer instead of a vented dryer. The advantage of having a vented dryer disappears where the vent run is long or where the vent ducting is located in a place you cannot clean it. Unfortunately, I do not think that most people bother to clean their dryer vent even once a year.

Asko also makes ventless stackable dryers, at least in their compact line. The T712 dryer can be purchased vented or ventless. They may have larger dryers that way also.

I recently purchased a 3.6 CF washer dryer combo from LG. It is ventless and works really well. Before I got it I had a Whirlpool Duet, it was perfect for what I needed at the time, mainly because of it's size. The LG is much larger, it runs quietly, and can handle a pretty fair amount of laundry at one time.

I think GE has one too.

Spanish manufactuer Fagor sells a ventless dryer and a decent-capacity 240v washer.

If the LG 24" combination washer/dryer can have an LG ventless dryer stacked on it, that would be a convenient setup - you can have the washer do the whole job when you have smaller laundry loads, and need to use the separate dryer only when you have lots of clothes and not much time.

Otherwise, I'd go with Bosch for its good capacity and fast water heating thanks to its 240 volt power supply (the washer plugs into an outlet on the dryer, and the dryer plugs into the 240V wall outlet and powers both machines). Asko worth a look too. Miele is best quality but expensive and the washer is 120v so it will be slower.
