You know, it does look like a pretty nice piece but I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to put it outside and use it for a water feature or ? I'm a person that normally prefers to preserve old pieces but you have to consider the desirability of a piece. If its not something that is highly sought after by collectors I don't see the need to really preserve its condition. Now the member here that had bought a huge Redwing crock and wanted to put it outside and plant flowers in it, that got my attention. LOL! The crock was worth quite a bit of money, particularly to people who collect Redwings.:)

Jeannes, I just posted this note on my BB thread since you'd posted your picture there too, but want to make sure you get this message. I'm not sure you need to even off that center by chipping. You don't want to lose that great fountain find to breakage. The surface doesn't look to be too much deeper in one place than the other. I think you could just build up the thinset in the lower places as you mosaic. I never worry too much about a mosaic being really flat. A little unevenness just gives it some texture. Have fun!

I had seen a pic of a door cabinet some yrs ago & it looked perfect for this project! luvs...the farmhouse was deteroriating so bad ...very old & yes, had some great pcs in it. My sis & BIL had raised their family in it...they are dairy farmers. The Amish came in & took out the cupboards & lots of usable wood ...my sis & BIL was happy about that because all would be bulldozed...I had asked for the door & the old bath window (my Christmas window post) & they let us take anything we wanted. Wonderful post vaporvac. I like your pile! You have all those lovely mature trees to shade and give you leaves and free chips (bless his heart). I have a lot of flowering trees out front so I do have leaves. The back is my bluebird trail and they hate any sort of disturbance. I added another 4 x 8 veg bed and last year they stopped breeding in that one nest box. So this year, I have to dig the dirt and move it back. With this wind, trees would be a simple solution but alas, I love my bluebirds. I DID however, buy a little shredder chipper thanks to all of you! Yeah! Khalid blows me away. Between him and Straw... way above my head. Such brilliant minds. I can only hope that what I lack in advanced knowledge I make up for with TLC.
