That headboard is lovely. I so badly want to find one for the garden like this, plus a wood set to make a bench. But no luck yet.

Wow, Adina! You really scored this weekend! Do your washtubs have drainage holes? I not, you'll have to drill some. Tubs that big will collect alot of rain water so you'll need drainage. I think I'd do a water feature. Kathy

Yes, the tubs do have drain holes. When the hoses are clipped to the side of the tub, the water stays inside and when you unhook them, the tubs will drain. I still don't know what I want to do with them, but I will leave it here until it "speaks" to me.

Awesome headboard, especially for $5, I would do a water feature, but that's bc I want one and am too darn old to dig a pond.

snickysnacker - I don't think I need to protect it. There are a couple of spots where the enamel is worn away, so they may start to rust, not sure, but since it's covered in enamel, I doubt anything I put on it will stick. I am going to put some wax on the bare parts and hope for the best.

I am leaning towards doing a water garden in the tubs. Not sure if I will complete it this year or not since the plants will have to be overwintered inside or treated like annuals. I am going to talk with someone at a nursery nearby that specializes in pond plants and see what they suggest.

Super finds you got there! I've been hunting for one of those double tubs for quite some time and can't find one!
Ever since I saw a member of a water gardening forum make a water feature out of a similar tub I've wanted one to do the same. He put a small waterlily in his. You could certainly do the same with yours. Water lettuce and water hyacinth are floating plants you could put it in too.
I found a picture of it, hope that gives you an idea or two.:)

I have been looking all over for that washtub set up
NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!

Now I am second guessing my decision of using this outside....this guy I work with is somewhat an antique expert and he says it's too nice to use outside and since they don't make them anymore, I should preserve it. I have no room for it in the house. Am I really doing such a bad thing by using it outside and ENJOYING it? Shouldn't objects be used and well loved? I mean it's not like this is some rare piece or anything...I think he just doesn't get it...LOL.

I would definitely use it outside. It's going to make you so happy every time you see it!

It was your money, so it's your choice on what to do with your purchases! If you can't use and enjoy them, you just wasted that money. ENJOY!

I think alot of laundry got done outside.I have wagon wheels and an old galvanized trough outside.Everything ages I would enjoy it outdoors as a fountain or planter or a place to pot plants or wash up after gardening. How about adding ice and soda for a bar b que?
Indoor s you could fill the tubs with quilts, pillows,dolls,bears,books,files etc.

Adina, your headboard is gorgeous. I've been on the lookout for something like that. And just $5! About your tubs...when I was a child, my mother had her wringer washer and tubs sitting on a tiny porch, because she had no room for them inside the house. It wasn't much different than outside because the porch was so small, it rained in there all of the time. And as nanatink said, it's yours, so use it the way you want. I would.

You know, it does look like a pretty nice piece but I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to put it outside and use it for a water feature or ?
I'm a person that normally prefers to preserve old pieces but you have to consider the desirability of a piece. If its not something that is highly sought after by collectors I don't see the need to really preserve its condition.

Now the member here that had bought a huge Redwing crock and wanted to put it outside and plant flowers in it, that got my attention. LOL! The crock was worth quite a bit of money, particularly to people who collect Redwings.:)

I'm so jealous. Bulky trash pickup is coming up soon. I'm cruising for beds!

Now where do you live exactly? Keep an eye on those tubs!

I'm kidding of course. I love the washtubs. I would definitely plant them. Very cool indeed! Like to see them after you get done. Have fun with that.
