soft of medium toothbrush?

Changed toothbrushes, tonite!

Always used medium, but after dental cleaning, dentist gave me soft! Just used it, and there is a big difference. Guess I will have to get used to it.

Don't really like it, but she says it is better for teeth.

What do you use and think?

Most dentist are recommending the soft ones. You might try different brands--some seem a little more firm, but still soft than others. Watch for sales, and different stores charge different prices. They also need to be changed more that my Soni Care. I think about every 3 months.

I use an electric toothbrush, I think the brushes are closer to medium than soft.

Not too long ago I used a regular human-powered toothbrush that was a soft one and really didn't like it! I found myself brushing HARDER to get the clean feeling I was looking for. Are you doing that too?

I really prefer my electric one.

Very beautiful flower and plant. I hope it flourishes with your new found attention :) After a few years and more orchids in my trash than I wish to admit...I invested in the following: Physan 20, Phyton 27 (which will treat bacterial infection that your plant may have Erwinia or Pseudomonas), Neem oil, 1600 Xclude, Mosquito bits, and lastly Subdue Maxx (the last one is a bit over the top and specifically for black rot Pythium). Physan 20 is basically like bleach which you dilute and clean surfaces with to protect against fungi, algae and bacteria. Phyton 27 is for more serious bacterial infections that are common. Neem oil for the bugs. These are the three I would recommend. If fungus gnats become an issue then the bits help. The 1600Xclude and Subdue are pretty, well, extreme and not necessary in most people's views I read...but I am a bug maniac. Subdue Maxx is specifically for the black rot; the only other way to treat it is to do exactly what you did which is carefully with a sterile blade, dispose of the diseased portion of the plant and pray it doesn't spread any further. I started with about 5 plants myself over 5 years ago...I have about 75 now and building a greenhouse ^.^ Welcome to what will soon be your best love! PS. It is worth saying that the BEST way to avoid disease is to provide the proper culture for the plant...which you have done with your re-potting etc.

The size of your dog doesn't matter as much as his chewing determination. My pointer chews much more aggressively than any of my 100+ lb dogs. I always buy the largest toys/bones/chews available. Don't make the mistake of buying small - especially with things like soup bones. Bigger is better. What kind of Nylabone did the dog destroy in minutes? In all my years, I have NEVER had a dog destroy a regular classic Nylabone - gummabones and dental chews, yes, but never a regular Nylabone. Here's an example of a regular Nylabone http://www.petedge.com/Flavored-Nylabones-TF178.pro I buy them in souper size for the 60 lb dog. For aggressive chewers, the Extreme Kong is great - I've NEVER seem a dog destroy one. The Classic Kong is pretty good - I have one that is 15 years old and it was still fine until the GSP started on it. He may have been OK with a newer one. They are pretty boring on their own, but I've never had a dog ignore a stuffed one. Working to remove the food, especially when it's the only food he is going to receive, should work. Plus, he'll be learning that toys aren't for tearing up. The Kong dental stick and dental jack are worthless - both broke into large pieces within minutes and they are only available in red. Kong treat balls (stuff-a-ball) were also quickly destroyed. The biscuit ball lasts longer, but still wasn't suitable. Air Kongs are glorified, expensive tennis balls and met the same fate as their cheaper brethren. Kong balls are nice and the dogs seem to especially enjoy the bounzer ball. Kongs supposedly have a replacement guarantee, but I wasn't particularly impressed with Kong's customer service after contacting them about the dental stix. Puptreads are made from recycled tires and have the advantage of being available at Walmart, Tractor Supply etc. Vigorous chewing did rough them up, but only small rice-sized pieces are missing. How about balls? Not tennis balls - there's something about that covering that is just irresistible to the aggressive chewer. And the "tough" tennis balls especially for dogs aren't any better. Chuck-It Ultra balls http://www.petedge.com/ChuckIt--Ultra-Rubber-Balls-ZX482.pro last much longer than any other ball except Kong balls. The advantage of the Ultra balls is that they bounce better and are great for indoors as they are light. I've heard that raquetballs are similiar, but don't have personal experience. Also, goughnuts! http://www.goughnuts.com/ They're a little heavy for indoor play, but the dogs enjoy carrying them and chewing. So far I'm impressed. They do come with a replacement guarantee and, should the need arise, I hope I'll have a better experience with them than i did with Kong. Finally, if your dog likes to chase a larger ball (like a basketball, volleyball or soccer ball) you can look into something like this http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751746 I haven't tried it because I have a connection with a soccer coach who gives me his dead balls. I can't leave the GSP alone with them but the free balls are adequate for chasing around for a day or two until they are truly "dead"

Dog dental care - Sonicare or electric toothbrushes?

I have been using an Oral B spin brush, but I have also used the Sonic, and the cheap spin brush with batteries too. Best results has been the Oral B Spin Brush dip in tiny cup of brown bottle of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. Dip in Hydrogen Peroxide and brush, dip and brush, dip and brush. Make it pleasant and keep brushing time short so they get use to it. Try to do it a few times a week or every other day to get caught up on removing tarter. It may be the diet causing all the tarter build up. Usually dogs that eat a wheat, soy or corn based pet food get terrible tarter and terrible teeth from it. The gmo carbs from wheat corn and soy don't do well for dogs teeth. Causes terrible tarter build up. Grains are not a natural food for dogs so grains can cause tarter buildup, gas, diahrrhea, and excessive weight gain as carbs get stored as fat as hard for dogs to digest. And now all grains in the USA are GMO's so even worst for dogs. Switch to a sweet potato based pet food or white potato base. I had great results with sweet potato based pet foods. Try USBones.com california natural sweet potato and herring dry and or canned dog food. Best I have found. http://www.USBones.com natural holistic pet foods made in the US with US sourced ingredients. pet food, treats, chewies, bones, supplements for dogs and cats. Great family owned company. Supplement with real veggies. Great for helping to keep teeth clean. Feed green beans, green peas (frozen or fresh - avoid canned veggies as sodium causes diarrhea) Cook and cool sweet potato slices. I keep a bowl of cooked cooled sweet potato slices in the fridge to add to food or use as treats. Banana slices and apple slices are also good. You can also brush with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. You many need to use baking soda to help remove the tarter if the hydrogen peroxide isn't working fast enough. I think if you brush your dogs teeth 3 times a week, it should start to get rid of the tarter. And changing the diet, and avoiding wheat, corn or soy based pet food which is usually the biggest culprit in tarter build up on teeth. Hope this helps.

"Darlow's Enigma" has no pink in it, opens from yellow buds. (I know this plant pretty well, in fact Darlow began calling it "Darlow's Enigma" because I showed him it wasn't the R. moschata 'Plena' he had been selling it as). The one I've seen that resembles it otherwise is what is grown and sold as 'Nastarana' (who knows if this cultivar has anything to do with the original Persian musk rose). It opens from pink buds and produces bluish leaves. It is also susceptible to Black Spot. But the flowers of your plant may be too simple for that one, or have differently shaped petals - I'd have to check. If "pink DA" stands for pink "Darlow's Enigma" I don't know that one. There are of course lots of different kinds of old garden roses, with some introductions from the same classes having been made since 1865. And people also raise and plant rose seedlings that never get selected and named - your plant could even be a seedling from a batch that was generated by a commercial grower specifically to graft onto, is present on the site as a rootstock that replaced the rose that was grafted onto it.

Soft brushes are easier on the gums, which is supposed to be how to use a toothbrush. Angle the soft bristles into your gum line, and gently move back and forth. Not supposed to "scrub" your teeth, just remove plaque.
Must get into the gum line on both sides of a tooth.(cheek and tongue) Then use floss, and you're good to go.

Soft is what the dentists recommends here too.
I accidently picked up medium last time I was at Walmart. Two of the blasted things and I don't like them, soft is better IMO. I can't wait til I can toss these.

Always soft. I use a manual toothbrush and brush like Foggy says. I also carry floss with me everywhere. Can't stand to have food between my teeth.

Soft toothbrush is also easy on your teeth. The important thing is to brush it thoroughly and not harshly.

Using medium (or harder) toobrush or brushing agressively may remove the enamel that coats and protects your teeth.

If you feel pain/soar when you drink hot/cold water, it could mean that you've removed the enamel of your teeth. That is if your pain/soar is in large areas. If it's only at one tooth, then, you need to have it check out.

The enamel will build back up when brushing with a soft toothbrush. You will feel a different in about 3-4 weeks.

Since, we're on teeth subject, you may also be careful using toothpaste with tartar control. Tartar control toothpaste may be sensitive to some people. When you brush and see white slimy stuff when spitting out, that is your skin inside your mouth coming off. Try switching to another toothpaste without tartar control. The skin will come back.

The best cleaning toothpaste is one that not only has fluoride but also has peroxide and baking soda. After brushing, you will feel as if you just got a cleaning from the dentist.

Although, I've seen some people actually swallow toothpaste, you should not. Too much fluoride and peroxide can be poisonous.

Couple of more tips that I forgot to mention.

1) Avoid using tooth picks. It tends to widen the area between your teeth which allows food to stuck in there. If it's too late for you, floss thoroughly daily.

2) If you use electric toothbrush, brush your teeth gently but thoroughly since the brush is not as soft as it should be.

Gosh! I just use the free one they give me every 6 mos. I've read you're supposed to change more often than that, but I don't. I've also read to clean them periodically w/ hydrogen peroxide or bleach, especially when you're sick! I think germs love to grow on toothbrushes.

I am TOTALLY hooked on my Sonicare toothbrush. If it broke tonight, I'd have a new one tomorrow.

My dentist recommended it to me several times, but it took my son's recommendation before I actually bought one. Love it, love it, love it!

Firm. The soft and medium just don't clean my teeth well. Useing less that a firm brush has been the only time I've had cavities in years. My gums are just fine - thank you.
